Thank you all so much for the Honor.

It's been a long but FUN journey to get to MY idea weight. My journey started with me weighing 210 pound by the time I started SP, I weighed 196. I set my sights for 135, I'm 5ft. 2in.. This is the weight my Doctor and I decided on. At First I was in denial about my weight. Even though I had a Massive Stroke in 1990, and recovered fully by God's Grace and Mercy, I still felt I could get by. That is exactly what I was doing getting by. My blood pressure was off the charts, Cholestral was high and I felt tired all the time. I wanted to do more than just get by.
Then I was told about Sparkpeople.com. It's a place to learn LIFESTYLE change and not a diet. I thought,"That's the place for me." I signed up, but was scared I'll break something or delete something. So My Husband helped me with navigating through the site. I'm not a computer whiz and I don't type fast. (smile)
I followed faithfully the calorie in and exercise that was given me. I stayed the same weight until I started drinking my water right along with everything else. (Please drink your water).
Slowly I started feeling comfortable and join a few teams. I read quite a few success stories
and got encouraged to do more. I started stopping by other Sparker pages and leaving messages and they left some for me and then I started having great friends here. These are friends outside of SP too. I'm a Leader of 3 teams and a member of 11. How do I keep up? One day at a time. Oh, but it's so much fun seeing your friends meet their goals and accomplish tasks they couldn't do before. Plus it a great way to get information you didn't have before.

My Husband didn't join SP but He exercise and(ate) and does eat the same things I did and do and loss 55 pounds.

I'm keeping the weight off so far. I know for a fact, with all the information in hand I've learned from Sparkpeople I won't see 210 again. WooHoo.
I've work hard but I have had the best time losing weight and changing my lifestyle for the better.
We're both alot healthier today. So, Thank You SP and thank you Sparkfriends.
That' why I have chosen to stay around and help support and encourage others.

So friends, please have fun, Move that body and let's do this.

You can do anything, you set your mind to do.

I suspect like many others, emotional well being for me, is a vital component in losing or maintaining ones' weight. I had been at my best, fit and between 108-112, when I divorced in 2005. The divorce had been emotionally devastating, and the proceedings in court dragged on for more than a year. During that time and since, my weight slowly inched upward, as I struggled through, not only the trauma of the divorce, but also through readjusting to a single life again, at age 51. For the next three years the scale climbed to a never-before-122-pounds! An unbelievable ten pounds in a very short time.

Seeing that number, which was almost incomprehensible, I decided to, once again, implement the very same practices of healthy food choices and a consistent regimen of exercise, that I had successfully accomplished in my forties. A month or so prior to finding SparkPeople, I was able to drop five of the ten pounds with my reinstated plans. And then, apparently hitting a plateau, was at risk of giving it all back without some added intervention.

It's quite by accident that I found this site. I was browsing on another site completely unrelated to weight loss, when a post had made glowing remarks about it. Curiosity, then, led me here on April 19.

Almost a month to the day, what I had been unable to achieve on my own in losing the final five pounds, I was able to do so here, with the support of people who I would post to, or visa versa, just inklings of encouragement to stay with it, by reading the countless of articles and emails that infused my regular email box daily, by my persistence to figure out how to track my meals and workouts, by my blogging for the first time ever in my life!...by my gleaning so much information on a myriad of topics, from health, to fitness, nutrition and diseases, personal testimonies, and staying motivated...just a wealth of knowledge anywhere and everywhere I would click!

I used all of it, all of these venues, to push myself every day, when I didn't feel like moving. On my most trying days, instead of giving up, I interpreted my mood as a cue to just log in, and keep reading a post, a comment, a blog, an article, a friend feed, an email - anything that would give me the push I needed. It wouldn't take long for me to find SOMETHING to ignite the Spark!...and I was, once again, sufficiently inspired to get moving and make something out of my day.

Even though I've reached my goal weight, it's not the end for me. I am even more determined to now maintain, and not give anything back, like I had done after my divorce. It takes constant vigilance, and the support from others is a crucial ingredient. When I began my journey here, SparkPeople was a website that assisted me tremendously. Although it is still that, it is also so much more. For me, SparkPeople has become a way of life.

Wow! I've made it. The last year has not been easy. After my son was born, I ate whatever I wanted since I couldn't when I was pregnant. I had severe morning sickness. When I finally stopped losing weight and started gaining, I gained more than I planned to.

My pre-pregnancy weight was 146. I gained almost 40 pounds. The first 30 pounds fell off pretty quickly. I got down to 158. I couldn't get into any of my old clothes. So I basically had to buy a new wardrobe. I wasn't happy with the way I looked.

When I returned to work, I packed my lunch every day instead of eating out. I started eating better and exercising. The next eight pounds came off, and I was done to 150. A co-worker told me about SP. And the rest is history, so to speak.

I do strength training and at least 60 minutes of cardio every day. Now that I have two kids to chase after, I'll really need all energy I can get.

With the support and motivation of my team, I was able to stick with it. Some days were hard, but I didn't give up. I've pushed myself to stay on track. I have more energy, and I feel better about myself. I wanted to look in the mirror and be happy with what I saw.

I can say I love the way I look now. I have gotten so many compliments. The best thing is when people tell me they can't believe I recently had a baby. My favorite is that my stomach is really flat. I'm getting definition there. I've able to maintain my weight. I'm very happy where I'm at.

It made a huge difference having people to support and motivate me. I couldn't have gotten this far without my SP friends. For the first time in a long time, I'm happy with what is on the inside and the outside.

I am so excited to be posting here on the members who have reached their goal weight! I never imagined I would be doing this so soon! I know that now that I have reached my goal weight that my journey is not yet over. I feel the hardest part is yet to come with maintaining my weight, but I do know that keeping up with sparkpeople will definitely keep me on the right track towards keeping the weight off. I feel so healthy, so energized, and I don't want this feeling to go away!

I hope that people coming to read this message board can look at me and think that they can do it too. When my son was born last October, I just was happy not to be pregnant. When I went back to teaching in January, I knew that I could not afford to stay the weight I was at so I joined my school's loser program. At that time, I weighed in at 156.5, more than I thought I would be. As I started my diet, I decided I would eat mainly proteins, vegetables, and fruit, and barely any carbs. As a result, I hard lost any weight. But, when I started Spark People at the end of February, I realized that I could eat my regular foods as long as I kept within my calorie, fat, carb, and protein goals. This is when the weight finally started to, as my teacher friends say, 'melt away'. I was losing 1 or 2 pounds a week, even during 'that time of the month'. I could not belive how great this was, and I was not feeling deprived at all! Now that I am at my goal, I have learned a great lesson about portion control. If I am just conscious of how much I am eating, I can still enjoy the foods I like, as long as I don't eat too much!

My exercise routine basically consists of (besides taking care of my 2 kids) tae kwon do for 45 minutes twice a week. It has done wonders for my flexibility, muscle tone, and most importantly, my confidence.

Thank you to all the people on the Spark Ability team, you have really been great motivators for me. Also, thanks for all the positive comments and goodies on my spark page. I will go right to my page and read all the positive comments if I ever consider 'falling off the wagon'. I truly do feel blessed to be a part of such a great support group, I don't know what I would do without it!

Again, I know if I can do it, anyone can, just stay motivated and look at the small accomplishments, because eventually in the end these add up to great successes! emoticon

I will be asking my fellow team mates on the team Spark Ability to write about their journeys when they reach their goal weights so I should set a good example and do so myself!

I began my healthy lifestyle journey in March 2008, just over a year ago now. Over the past year I have met and been encouraged by some of the most incredible and remarkable people! I would have never have been as successful on this journey without so many who have traveled with me. I was a co-leader on a team that was so incredible, supportive, and motivational that I just knew I could make it. I thank each and every person who has chatted with me, left me comments, messages, and goodies, gave me a push or a challenge when I needed it, encouraged me when I felt like I couldnít do it, and shined a light on the path to show me the way.

I have now reached my goal weight and have re-evaluated my goals to maintain my weight. Part of my goal for this stage of my journey is to create the team Spark Ability to give back to others what was given to me Ė support, motivation, and a place where others just know they can make it! I believe that people helping people is the most powerful thing there is and know that enthusiasm, motivation, and determination are all contagious Ė wonderfully contagious!

When I first began my journey I was very out of shape physically. I am the mother of 5 children and I had completely forgotten to take care of myself. I took the advice of others and started slow and with small goals. I was actually shocked when I first started tracking my food as to what my food intake actually was! I realized I had a LOT more work ahead of me than I had originally thought and started to feel overwhelmed. I was luck though as several wonderful people sort of took me under their wings and helped me realize I had to find what worked for ME! Itís taken a lot of soul searching at times but I found my way with guidance.

First I worked on my water consumption. The more water I drank the less diet soda I drank. Once I mastered that I stepped up to working on staying in my calorie range. Each time I reached a goal I added another and just kept moving forward one step at a time. I also found it helpful to re-evaluate my goals from time to time to ensure I was on track and moving in the right direction. There were times I realized I set too lofty of goals and had to back them down more. I also had to take a good look at myself and my downfalls and my strong points. I used my strong points to try and make my downfalls manageable. For example, I use to be a horrible spur of the moment snacker. Once I realized this I used my strong organizational skills too off set this weakness. I kept on always up-to-date list on my frig and cupboards of the healthy snacks available for me at any moment. I also placed motivational quotes next to these lists to remind me to stick to my healthy snacks. This really worked for me. See, on this journey I realized we are all traveling the same path but we each have to find our own individual footing so to speak as not everything works for everyone. We have to find our strengths and use them to offset our weaknesses.

My oldest son became my fitness trainer in a way and he helped get me moving. Again here I used my strengths. I am not the most flexible but I love sports so I began to play basketball and ride bike and just kept moving forward from there.

Along the way I had set backs, hit plateaus, and had moments I wanted to give up. Each time I had the support of very special people on this site to help me work through them. Thank you to everyone who has traveled on this journey with me!

Now, as I said I am working on maintaining my weight. The team Spark Ability is up and running very well. I have two incredible co-leaders helping me and a team full of very special people. I may have started the team but a team takes on the membersí personalities. Every single person on the team shapes what the team is and I am so proud of the team Spark Ability!!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for being a part of my journey. Now I am a part of your journey as well. Remember, we are NOT alone on this journey as we are all traveling the same path, just at our own paces!
