Thanks for the challenge and the goodies, Ladies. I'm still with YENDUCHAKA. Did not do as well as I hoped for, but the challenge sure helped me stay focused. AND, I lost two of the recently gained summer pounds. So yay us! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yup, that's one of favorite parts of eating out- enjoying something that I don't normally prepare for dinner, and then again for lunch the next day. Though not having to wash dishes runs a close second!

I'm happy to say that I finished the challenge with a "yes" day. I didn't do as well as I had hoped, but I know for certain that I did WAY better than I would have if we didn't have this challenge. Thank you soooooo much! I stayed on track for 16 days. I'm happy with that.

It's ridiculous how big some portions are, isn't it? In the summer, when I was in England, and struggling to eat well and within normal ranges, I found that I could take home half of my entree for a meal the next day, and still be quite satisfied.

I wasn't feeling great yesterday, so I didn't track. Today DH and I went out for his birthday. We went to dinner and he picked the restaurant as we were driving, so I wasn't able to plan ahead and went over by quite a bit. I left probably about 1/4 of my meal, and my stomach still hurts because I ate so much!

You are doing very well, YENDUCHAKA!

Jane - 50% is a lot better than I have been doing. I actually forgot about this challenge. emoticon And my exercise has been almost non-existent. *sigh* My eating is well under control, but the exercise is eluding me. Which is weird. Usually it's the exact opposite for me.

You can do it, Jane!

I fell off the wagon the last several days but am back on track today.

I checked my weight yesterday, but didn't believe what the scale had to say because it was lower than I expected. I had taken an allergy pill the day before, so I assumed it was just water weight that I would be gaining back. But this morning the scale said the same thing. So I think I can safely call it an official 2 pound loss this week. Maybe I did more walking at the fair than I realized. I also cleaned out and painted my bedroom this weekend, so maybe I burned a lot more calories than I thought. At any rate, I feel good about it.

My goals: To use the nutrition tracker and stay within my calorie ranges every day.

It is very hard to remain enthusiastic over the long haul. And losing the last 10-15 pounds to get to goal has eluded me more often than not in my 6 years on SP.

Too many times I've gotten to within 10 pounds of my goal weight, only to regain 5-10 pounds, and be where I'm at now: nearly 20 pounds from goal weight.

I refuse to give up, however, and stay here to remain as healthy as possible.

Once again, I'm reigning in a bad weekend of eating, and I continue to try and lose the 5# of summer weight gain (mostly ice cream and barbeque treats) I seem to gain annually!

This challenge has helped me focus on those recently regained pounds. emoticon

I don't know if it's actually harder, but I've definitely lost my enthusiasm and have a harder time being disciplined than I did when I first joined SP.

Yesterday I did beautifully, but today I'm certain I went over. Not sure how much, as we were treated to dinner at a hibachi grill, and I have no idea how to track that food. I was proud of myself for sticking with the brown rice instead of the fried (or the noodles, which also looked very tempting), and for paying careful attention and stopping when I started feeling full.

Ugh. I have heard that the closer to goal, the harder it can get.

And I like your thinking, meeting our goals half the time is better than never.

I was up .8 pound this week. I'm within 10 lbs of my goal weight and am really struggling to get this last bit off. Oh well. This is a new week and a new opportunity. I'm back on track today! I'll have to be careful this week. It's fair week, and the food there is always so tempting!

Thanks for the encouragement, CJ! And to everyone, meeting our goals half the time is better then not at all. We're all doing well, even if it isn't as well as we plan to do.

For me the challenge is going to be a success if I will be honest and fill in each day's activity, or lack thereof. Being accountable about exercise is good for me.
I have the Wii set up so I can easily use it. Now to JUST DO IT!

That is a good point about fasting. I personally have a very difficult time fasting from food, so it is a real sacrifice when I do it.

I did well this past week, but pigged out today. I probably made up for all the calories I didn't eat all week and then some. Oh well. Nothing to be done but start again tomorrow :-)

Remember that fasting can be from more than food! I am on a very strict eating plan. I am wary about deviating from it. Therefore, I chose to "fast" from other things yesterday, in addition to my hour of Adoration and prayers.

Enjoy that picnic today!

We had our annual back-to-school beach party/picnic on Friday. I really enjoyed myself emoticon This picnic capped off a rough week of eating. I was out of range more often than I was in range.....Fortunately, exercise has been consistent. emoticon

The picnic should be fun, but presents a conundrum on a day set aside for prayer and fasting. Hmm... It should be interesting. It's a picnic for First Friday/Saturday, so most of the people in attendance will be Catholic. I'm curious to see how much leftover food there will be, lol!

GO for that 3 bite challenge! emoticon I find when I don't know how to handle the food, I can usually deal with three bites and stop. Hope the picnic is great fun!

I am counting my bowling tonight as my exercise for today. I DID get in my 15 minutes yesterday morning... Today is 1st Friday, so I'm off to Mass instead of using the Wii. I'm getting in some extra movement each day, that is what is good! emoticon

emoticon YENDUCHAKA!!! I like your attitude! The numbersw on the scale do not determine our success!!!
I did not use the Wii today. The day got away from me! I have almost 6000 steps, though! And I never went outside the house to get them... Moving furniture and going through boxes kept me moving. I accomplished a lot today, and set the momentum for the rest of the week.

emoticon CJ and Jane! Leah, I'm glad you're feeling better. Your new workout room sounds like fun!

I did well again today. I'm enjoying the look of only the word "yes" on my chart for this week :-) I saw no change on the scale this week, but if I keep up this streak next week's weigh-in should have some happy news for me. If not I'll still have the satisfaction of knowing I did a good job.

Your new workout room/living room sounds like a great idea! I bet you will enjoy working out in there.

Yeah, stomach viruses are no fun.

At my Overeaters Anonymous meeting yesterday evening, there was a newcomer who suffers with binging and purging. My heart went out to her.

emoticon everybody! We are striving for progress, not perfection!
I didn't work out with the Wii Sunday and yesterday. I've had a stomach virus, and really I shouldn't have bowled yesterday either. But I did get in the 90 minutes of bowling. Movement IS movement!
Today I am rearranging my living room to better accomadate my treadmill and Wii stuff. It is going to be totally my workout area. If it is pleasing and comfortable, I will use it.
I tried a recipe to take to Church Bake sale, and I ate half of it... Chocolate Chip Cookie Cheesecake Bars. Yes, they are going to sell like wildfire... DH ate other half.
Back into "common sense" mode yesterday. The virus may have been my friend, after all, as everything has gone straight through me. How do people purge? It definitely is not for me...thank goodness. I pray for those who have that addiction... it must be very hard...
Off I go to wokr in LR again!

Despite the holiday weekend here, and going over calories from Friday until Monday, I did not gain over the weekend. Who knew?!

I'm reigning things in calorie-wise and am back on track for today. Let's hope it lasts!

I started the day off well yesterday. I consumed less than normal for breakfast and lunch, since I was going to a picnic in the evening, but I'm pretty sure I blew it at that picnic despite my precautions. I like the 3 bite rule! I'll have to try that next time.

Today is going well so far. Hope everyone is having a blessed Sunday!

Thank you, Leah for your suggestions. They are good ones that I can normally employ while eating out. However, I really blew it on Saturday.

The combination of a lunch with a long-time girlfriend, Italian food, and a beautiful sidewalk café got me. We went for paninis and cannoli. That was lunch! Dinner included pizza and wine. I didn't stop until I went to bed! I should have gone to bed after lunch! emoticon

Today I'm home, recovering, and getting back on track. Thank God for a new day!

emoticon Jane! Think portion size, then cut that in half when you get to something you want that isn't too healthy, but you just gotta eat it. I use the three bite rule... 1 bite to taste, 1 bite to savor. many times I don't need the third bite at all.
DH and I have errands to run today, and the Church bowling league starts tonight. We'll eat out one meal. Probably lunch. If it is my fave Mexican, I'm well covered. A salad of mainly romaine, three avacado slices, six grilled chicken strips, and a killer lime dressing(on the side! emoticon ). I'm not eating tomatoes, green peppers, and potatoes to help my RA. It really does help my inflammation! Anything called a "nightshade" food is off my list.
I'll hit the Wii after my morning TAG today. If I can sneak an additional 15 I will.
this challenge is great! Thanks, CJ!

That's too long a day, Leah! Hope you had a good night's rest.

I am eating out a lot this weekend and trying hard not to give in to too many temptations. Friday night, the appetizers got me. I went over by about 230.

On Saturday, I'm having lunch with a friend. We're going for paninis!

Today my Wii just didn't happen... I left home for 8am Mass, and returned at after 9pm. Too long a day at work... never got lunch. Went from 9am to 7pm before eating. I truly never stopped all day. Not smart! I am too tired to do anything but go to bed...
I will try to get in 30 minutes tomorrow. If not 30, I'll jump in where I am and get the 15 for sure...

I did ok today. I went to a get-together at a friend's house, and she had chocolate fondue. Enough said, right? For being away from home and not able to track very well, I didn't do too badly.

Tomorrow is my and DH's 16 wedding anniversary. We're going out to dinner and then bowling or mini-golfing. Hopefully I'll be able to check out the menu online before we go to plan well. And if I throw caution to the wind while we're out and order something high-cal, at least we're planning something active afterward.

Good for you, Leah!

Jane - well done on the pasta and garlic bread. It would have been much more than 200 over if you'd had all three!

emoticon Leah!

Oh, I'm not that amazing, but thanks for the kind thoughts. It has taken YEARS to develop the practice of rationing any chocolate kept in the house.

I went over calories on Wednesday; by about 200 calories. DH and I went to an appreciation dinner (he volunteered, I benefited). I was able to steer clear of the pasta and garlic bread, but alas, the apple pie got me! emoticon

JCEDIT, you are amazing! I can't keep chocolate in the house with any reasonable expectation of being able to ration it. I will brave going down into my musty, allergen-ridden basement to scarf down whatever chocolate might be lurking in the deepest, darkest corner of my freezer, calling to me longer than my willpower can last. CJ, I like the idea of the earphones to keep out the siren's call, hee hee.

Alas, I did succumb to eating most of the Hershey bars. Also, my middle daughter made some pumpkin bread today, and it was fantastic. Between those two obstacles I went over my calories for today, but only by 30. I'm kinda proud of myself that I stayed so close to my ranges, despite the poor nutritional quality.

My goals: To use the nutrition tracker and stay within my calorie ranges every day.

My answer to the siren calls is the deep freezer. Deep, deep in the freezer. Then thaw out a small amount at a time.

On my best days I can eat chocolate ice cream and frosting (yes, out of the container! emoticon ) a teaspoon at a time.

Hey, whatever works! emoticon

Good for you!
And those pesky siren calls. I recommend noise cancelling ear phones. Just might work. I'll have to get some for myself!

Thanks for the encouragement, CJ and JCEDIT.
CJ, emoticon on your 2 lb. loss!
CATHOLICCORGI, emoticon on your exercise streak!

I've done well yesterday and today. Today my sweet hubby brought home a 6 pack of Hershey bars just for me. I ate one and managed to stay just under my calories for the day. Now the trick is to ignore the siren's call of the ones remaining in the pack for the rest of the night emoticon

My goals: To use the nutrition tracker and stay within my calorie ranges every day.

YENDUCHAKA: I'd call Sunday a success. You were out having a lovely time and were conscious of your food choices. Yes, you went a bit over, but your intentions were in the right place and you didn't chuck caution to the wind. Happy belated birthday! emoticon

Aw, I know how it feels to try hard, and then not meet a goal. But, if I can just say, over by 177 is pretty darn good. Sometimes, in the past, I have gone over by over 500 calories!

Good luck with tomorrow - I bet you make it then!

Aw! I tracked everything I ate, but went over my calories today by 177 if my estimates are correct. (I was out and about all day, and wasn't able to measure anything.) My sister had planned a surprise day for me as a belated birthday gift. We went out for brunch and took a trolly tour of some wineries. It was so much fun!!! I'm a little disappointed that I started off our challenge not meeting my goal, but I'm happy I did as well as I did with it. Tomorrow I'm home all day and should be able to do better.

My goals: To use the nutrition tracker and stay within my calorie ranges every day.

All I know is that I needed something to help me get back into my Wii habit, and Poof! the Challenge appeared... so I'm not concerned when it starts, just that I have started! LOL!

Sorry, guys, I goofed. I had written in "challenge starts tomorrow" and put August 22 as the start date. Then, I figured that it was too soon for people to see the challenge if they don't get on sp every day, and so moved the start date to this coming Sunday. However, I kept the words "starts tomorrow" in by accident.

Oops!

Oh well, I am thrilled that everyone is excited to start this challenge, and we'll call the next three days our practise run for our goals!

Unofficial start - today
Official start - Sunday

I'm with you, YENDUCHAKA. Good at exercising regularly; pretty good at food tracking regularly; but challenged to consistently stay in my calorie and nutrient ranges.

So my challenge is to stay in calorie range for the 30 days, from August 25 to Sept. 22.

I do fairly well with getting my exercise in each day, but I really struggle to stay within my nutrition ranges. Tracking all of my food each day and staying within those ranges will be my goal.

Thanks for setting this up, CJ- it should be fun!

My own challenge for the next 4 weeks:

I have not been exercising very much, so I need to make my challenge about that.
I need to:
* do some sort of physical activity daily - for at least 15 minutes - for the first week
* the second week I need to do actual cardio 4 days in the week
* the third week I need to do cardio 5 days in the week
* the fourth week I need to add in strength training 2-3 times as well as the cardio for 5 days

Okay. I never got my act in gear to make up a summer challenge, and here we are, coming to the end of August soon.

This is therefore, a LAST DAYS OF SUMMER CHALLENGE.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

It is also a PICK-YOUR-OWN-CHALLENGE challenge.

Meaning, what is the ONE thing you need to work on the most right now? Is it exercising? Eating within calorie range? Getting more fruits and veggies? What are you not doing right now, that you know you should, or you would like to? Pick that.

Then, post here what your challenge for yourself is for the next 4 weeks.

This challenge runs from tomorrow - 25 August 2013 - 22 September 2013.

10 points for posting your own personal challenge in this thread.
10 points for each week that you post your progress with meeting your own personal goals.
10 points for posting the last day of the challenge to say how you think it went for you, and if your new challenge task is now a habit for you or not.

Goodie prize to the team member who does all of the following tasks:
* checks in by the end of the week to post their own challenge,
* posts weekly (at least) to update us of their progress,
* posts at the end to let us know how the challenge went for them,
* and manages to fulfill their own personal challenge rules the most days.

More than one winner is possible - but don't worry, we have a lot of goodie points to give out - goodie size will be determined by how many people participate, and how many people meet their own goals.

So, who is in?

emoticon
