How I thank God for the way of escape that comes with every temptation satan flings toward us. I pray we are able to recognize temptation for what it is and to immediately run to the Father, to the shelter of His wing, finding our escape route from Him.

Pray Against Temptation

I believe the more you want to serve and glorify God the more you will try not to sin & and do what it takes to avoid sinning. I would be lying if I told you do not sin, yet I do not have companionship with my sin for it is not a part of me.

I started praying a few months ago asking God to help me not to sin. I am flawless more than I am sinful, however as it says in the bible the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. In Gethsemane this occurred and was written about in the bible the night Jesus was betrayed:

Matthew 26 36-39, 4o

Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He told His disciples, sit down here while I go over yonder and pray. And taking with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, He began to show grief and distress of mind and was deeply depressed. Then He said to them, My soul is very sad and deeply grieved, so that I am almost dying of sorrow. Stay here and keep awake and keep watch with Me... And He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, What! Are you so utterly unable to stay awake and keep watch with Me for one hour? All of you must keep awake and watch and pray that you may not come into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

I believe this is stated in the bible to show us that even Jesus's devoted disciplines were not flawless. I truly believe that they wanted to stay awake for their master, their beloved friend. However, it is when we are at our weakest state the devil strikes at us with confidence.

Jesus told His disciples to stay awake, watch and pray. We have to BE AWARE OF SIN. We have to AVOID SIN. And we have to PRAY TO HELP US TO AVOID SIN.

Jesus told His disciples to pray because Jesus knew that HIs father in heaven would help HIs friends as they became weak. It was Jesus's wish they sat down while He went to another place nearby to pray. He did not ask them if they wanted to take a little nap, He wanted them awake when He returned. It is stated in the bible Jesus spends His time praying for us. Jesus prays for three things : protection, sanctification, and oneness.

John 17:11

"I will not remain in the world any longer. But they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, keep them safe by the power of your name. It is the name you gave me. Keep them safe so they can be one, just as you and I are one...

If Jesus prayed while He was living on this earth I believe with all my heart that He still prays for His children while He is with us here each day, and while He spends His time in heaven. If Jesus spends time praying for you during times you will become weak don't you think you should take time to pray about this matter as well?

Arm yourself, get the upper hand on sin not only by praying but knowing and preparing for the times in your life while you are weak, or become weak. The devil knows ALL about you. He has been studying you and has gotten very familiar with every part of your life. He knows what makes you upset, what your desires are, and just what puts you over the edge. He sets you up to take away your peace.

When you are most likely to be tempted to sin?

When are your weak moments in life?

What are the hardest things for you to do relating to the Ten Commandments, and God's ways?

What do you need help with most often?

In what areas in your life do you need help from God the most to stay in His ways?

The things I wrote above are just a few things you can spend your time praying about as you ask God to keep you strong in your walk with Him. While you are asking God to help you not to sin and to Magnify the Holy Spirit within you when you are tempted, remember and know God's Spirit is within you.

As we pray for God's help we show Him that we trust hIm with our every need and that we rely on HIm. He is our trusted friend who will be there for us with all of our needs.

He will always give you a way out, and help you to turn away from sin. But, be careful when you think you are standing firm, you might fall.

1 Corinthians 10:12-14

Therefore let anyone who thinks he stands, take heed lest he fall. For no temptation, has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man. But God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will also provide the way out, a means of escape, that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently. Therefore, my dearly beloved, shun any sort of idolatry (of loving or venerating anything more than God).

I have learned in my darkest hours, as I relied on God He filled me with His light. So as with your weakest times in your life God will fill you up with HIs strength. As we pray for God to help us He will help us to be strong within Him and avoid the sin, complete His will, and be covered with His peace.

God I ask you to strengthen us and complete us in you. Help us to remember to pray against sin, and to go to you for help to avoid it. Help us to be strong within you, so that in You we are able to walk past sin instead of walking in it and taking part of it. In Jesus name I pray amen.
