Eating this way makes me feel cleaner inside, my breath is sweet.

Can not support the industry and the inhumane treatment of animals. Aside from that, I LOVE VEGGIES!! So much flavor and variety!! Healthiest diet on the planet!!

The same as others - that I'm not contributing to the suffering of animals by eating this way, and on TOP of that - the icing on the cake - is that my health is fantastic by doing so.

I was lacto-ovo veg for over 10 years but at the beginning of this year transitioned vegan, PLUS been making the effort to be sugar-free. (Fruits are ok). The sugar thing is a real problem - as others mentioned, even when I was vegetarian, veg-friendly sugary foods are readily available everywhere you go and my indulgence in them really kept my weight up.

Since I've been eating vegan and limiting sugar, my health has improved greatly, and the excess weight that's been hanging around is disappearing.

I think my only problem is sometimes vegan food tastes too dang good and I keep wanting to eat lots of it. lol

It's nice to hear from others in this community. Thank you for your responses! I too have had period when I was relying on a lot of convenience and processed "vegan" foods. For the most part, my spouse and I try to follow a plant based while foods diet, but every so often we find ourselves leaning on those convenience foods. We do usually have one special meal out on the weekends. We are lucky to live in a community with many vegan and vegan friendly restaurants. It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.

Peace!

I have been a vegetarian for about 30 years.
There have been times when I haven't always been a healthy vegetarian. There is plenty of vegetarian junk food out there. emoticon

My favorite thing about being vegetarian is that I am not harming animals, which is why I became a vegetarian in the first place.

For me it was all about the animals. I finally went vegetarian 10 yrs ago. I still ate my desserts & sweets, which helped me put on the pounds. Yeah, a fat vegetarian. I am currently transitioning to a vegan diet. I am learning to eat the right way -- finally. The weight is starting to come off. Yeah! Till now I have to admit that going vegetarian didn't make me feel any better than I was previously, because I was eating the wrong foods. I am constantly searching for really good vegan recipes online. It is so much easier now than it was 10 yrs ago to get info. emoticon

What are your favorite things about being a vegetarian or vegan?

For me, I love knowing that I'm doing good for myself, the animals, and the planet. I love how I feel when I eat plant based whole foods, physically and mentally. I love being part of a community of socially conscious and kind people.

What about you?
