I hear your frustration! I get the question, too, and got it WAY MORE when I was fully vegan. I firmly believe different bodies need different things. Part of the reason I went back to vegetarian from vegan is because my body seems to thrive more on protein than carbs. But my moral compass would never allow meat to enter the picture again, so I live on (cage free) egg whites and (organic) greek yogurt. I probably could do it vegan, but it would be so much more difficult. Do what works for you. I'm lucky to not have any gluten/dairy/whatever sensitivities.

I've also come to accept that people are simply not comfortable with change. They've always eaten meat and it's just unfathomable to them that we don't. You most likely won't change their minds, so I just stopped trying. I have gotten pretty good about ending conversations (interrogations?!) with something along the lines of "this is how I choose to eat. I've lost 30 pounds so something is clearly working. You do you."

And vegan cheese is better than it used to be but it is NOT CHEESE!

SESHAT, I agree, the vegan cheeses don't satisfy me! And so far I have only found one vegan cheese that is not full of garbage. Most seem to be full of all kinds of who knows what. I wish I had time to make my own. I found one that I like at Whole Foods but I can't get to Whole Foods too often because of where it's located in relation to where I live. That one is good but it tastes like nuts, not cheese, ha!

Jackie, YES, you are right, it is like I am being ACCUSED of eating no meat. I try to brush it off but these are some of my closest friends. I KNOW I am full after my meals, my issues are just eating out of boredom and that is something I must work on - without meat!

Protein seems to be the thing.
When some people find out I am vegetarian, they want to know how I get my protein. It always seems to be asked in a way that makes me feel like I am being put on the spot, like an interrogation question.
It's frustrating. Almost like they are taking it personally because I don't eat meat.
Don't let it get to you.

I am constantly asked about protein also. There are plenty of protein plant sources. When I first learned this, I remember being somewhat astonished. I thought you had to eat meat and dairy to get protein. I have learned that we are probably getting too much protein. You might read what Dr. Furhman has to say about this (google protein Furhman).
I have found that my craving for cheese has subsided over time. But I will say that Vegan cheese is no substitute!

I've gained a few pounds and I know it is due to my own mindless eating and binges. I tell my friends and they tell me I need more protein. They tell me I must eat meat. I need chicken and turkey and fish. NO I DON'T! Why does everyone think that protein (or fat) is the answer to everything? I was telling them I want to cut dairy and cheese because two doctors have told me to. Problem is, I want ALL THE CHEESE. So I tell them this and they tell me to eat more meat? emoticon
