PYRTANIAS, I agree, I try to eat mostly whole foods as well, not always hugely successful and I have not done away with dairy as I need to - though I do look for high quality nut cheeses that don't have a lot of additives - it is very hard to find those kind of products but I do find them (if I had time I would make them myself). I do like nutritional yeast too. I find I do my best when I eat a mix of fruit, veggies, grains, legumes and nuts.

I have recently gone Vegan. I really wasn't a big meat eater. After watching some documentaries I can't believe how blind I was to how our food gets to our plates. I feel absolutely sick about the suffering of the animals...I know I can't change everyone- but I can change me...As for the cheese (that's the hard one for me)...I really like Braggs Nutritional yeast (it has a cheesy flavor to season veggies, soups etc.) Daiya makes some really good Vegan cheese products. Also if you have a Aldi Store in your area, they are starting to carry more Vegan foods. I know it's best to eat clean. But it's a good way to transition to Vegan. Good luck! emoticon

At first the cookbook collected dust for us....not enough pictures. But I can honestly say we've REALLY enjoyed all the recipes we've tried! Especially the Babbah Ganoush.

If it is to be, it is up to me!

I received the cookbook for Christmas and had already watched the move. I've been a vegetarian & then Vegan for the past few months. For 2018 I started the FoK online meal planning for the 100% Whole Food Plant Based eating as I've been having way too much vegan processed food (faux meat/cheese/yogurt/CHIPS! lol). Time to buckle down and do this right this year! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I bought the book last year, but just watched the movie on Netflix (Canada). Data and stats hit the message home. I’m changing my ways. Nice to see this team on SparkPeople.

Thank you for this list. I watched Vegucated years ago and became a strict vegan immediately and never looked back. One of the best things I have ever done.

Our grocery stores sell a lot of non-dairy ice creams, coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, cashew milk, etc. But I just love my Ben & Jerry's and I want to get away from it but just haven't taken that step yet. The non-dairy stuff doesn't satisfy me like the B&J's. But I've noticed that most of the stuff from the store has additives that I want to get away from. I am mostly a whole foods eater with a few exceptions and that stuff needs to be eliminated from my diet so I need to either learn to make ice cream at home or do without. I guess next time I make a trip to Whole Foods I will look there but I don't expect to find miracles.

I was in Hawaii last year and had some amazingly delicious coconut milk ice cream.
If you are ever near a gelato place, see if they carry it.
The only non-dairy ice cream I've found in the freezer section has been cashew milk ice cream. But I am determined to only buy when I am at a gelato or coconut farm where they make the small batches...

I've tried making some of the nut cheeses. They are pretty good, but I am trying to lose weight, so staying away for awhile.

I know there are some great movies...out there, but watching them mostly makes me angry!

I know there are some great "cheese" recipes out there. I hope one day I have time to try something like that. I've tried some coconut milk ice cream, it was okay but Ben & Jerry's won't leave me alone! But I am doing my best at this point and it's a journey.

I go vegan for months and cheese or ice cream creep back in, but I do better the longer I stay away from them. I really like frozen fruit and coconut or cashew milk blended and the nut cheese are ok, Minimalist Baker has some good recipes.

I keep trying, and one of these times my choices from my head will overpower my physical inner child who whines until I give in. Until then, I do the best I can with what I let myself eat, including ethical practices of companies.

For my dairy I am trying to mostly buy Organic Valley brand as they are allegedly the most humane but not all products are available to me in that brand. And it's very expensive. I ate a lot of cheese last night. I really want to give up dairy...but I love cheese. And ice cream.

I prefer eggs from a local farm but since I don't eat them fast enough I don't do that often. I want to cut out oils too but I like to roast my veggies in oil. I love butter too....I could eat a stick of it, that is how much I love it. Of course I have never done that. But I could!

I recently downloaded the app and am reading the transition plan. I stopped eating meat in July. I have not given up dairy but I do only buy organic, free range, etc. I especially like the idea of grain of the week, bean of the week and transitioning one meal at a time.

I finally took the time to watch Forks Over Knives! I pretty much never watch movies but this one and some others like it have been on my to do list. I am so glad I watched it. It reinforces my idea of eventually transitioning to a complete vegan diet. I know I want that but so far I am having trouble giving up dairy and eggs. As far as dairy, I have found it wasn't as hard to do away with milk as I expected it to be. It is the ice cream and cheese that I want. I keep hearing that we are all on our own journey with this and all of us follow a different path. I hope that my path will eventually get me to the point of being completely free of animal products, but right now I am enjoying my vegetarian diet and feeling very good!
