From my understanding, B12 comes from the earth which animals get when grazing? This is why it is found by the by in animal products and not plant foodstuffs. Folks who only eat plants are recommended to take a B12 supplement (and perhaps not wash our organic vegetables so carefully to get some dirt in our diets, too). Then there is the problem of absorption of B12. A sublingual type of B12 is often recommended (The idea being B12 is better absorbed through the mouth than the stomach). I think Dr. Gregor has particular ideas about that also. Some foods such as nutritional yeast have been fortified with B12. The amount of B12 need not be much; me, just once a week.

The amount of protein one truly needs is a controversial topic around plant eaters. I believe Dr. Gregor is a low protein guy. The world Health Organization has much lower protein recommendations than SP. If you're doing a lot of ST, building muscle, recovering form surgery....protein is necessary. Personally, I keep my protein levels up and I focus on getting essential amino acids, the building blocks of protein. There are only a few complete proteins found when only eating plants: tempeh, spirulina, quinoa, hemp hearts and hemp protein powder are a few. Bottomline, research, try some things out, and listen to your body. This all can be a fun adventure.

@ MISS_VIV Hey I know what you mean about saying the word "diet" It's a lifestyle.

I recall 20 years ago (mid thirtys) I had an angiogram. The specialist I was seeing told me I had the beginnings of coronary heart disease and I needed change my "lifestyle" That's the key word here- lifestyle. Wish I listened to him.

I'm a member over at Dr. Fuhrman's forums where I get alot of my vegan recipes from. But when I enter those recipes into the nutrition trackers here, I'm coming up short in some areas. Especially B12 and protein.

I've considered adding some meat protein back into my diet so I can meet the requirements on the nutrition tracker, but after watching this video, it confirms that a plant based lifestyle is preferred to better control type 2 diabetes and cholesterol.

Success is not about luck, it is about managed thoughts, focused attention and deliberate action.

youtu.be/wFIEUjh0jpI Removing the 's' on the 'https' seems to do the trick.

Yes Vivian, that's the correct video. And the link looks correct as well.

But somehow my browser(s) firefox and chrome are distorting the link. I've noticed in my address bar, the semicolon has been dropped after the https and this is causing a "web page not available" message.

No matter, Thanks for your help Vivian.

An evidence based video showing which foods spike insulin the most. I wasn't sure if I should have posted this in the cholesterol support board. I was having some doubts about going on a plant based diet. But I think I'm not so worried anymore.

I cant figure out why I can't post youtube links so...

Search youtube for the following phrase:
