I'm surprised, because they've had soy milk forever, so we've had a vegan option as long as I've known DD. I gave up coffee a while ago, but I'm glad they're branching into other options to decrease America's sad dependence on cow's milk.

Some people think the “plant-based whole foods diet” is extreme. Half a million a year will have their chests opened up and a vein taken from their leg and sewn onto their coronary artery. Some people would call that extreme.

It's too bad they don't offer it at all their stores.

Yes you are right ,any step forwards is better . Living in Scotland UK I have never heard of the company but I do think that all these fast food chains do not seriously consider the health of their customers but only of the cash they can give to their share holders. We do have fast food chains in Scotland but not that particular one. I personally hate them all .

Personally, I don't care WHY they are offering it (they're a huge company, so I agree that it's likely cash-driven) -- any sale that benefits animals is a good one for me! Every person that orders a drink with almond milk instead of cow milk is making a tiny difference.

The reality is, Dunkin' Donuts clearly isn't health food. I don't think there is a single item there that I'd define as "healthy" and the brand of almond milk they're offering is no exception. But again, small changes add up and if I happen to find myself at a Dunkin' Donuts I'll be glad to have the vegan option.

The problem with commercial almond milk is that there is so little actual almonds in it !! It made of more than a little rice and vegetable oil . It is soooooo easy to make your own at home from 1 cup of soaked almonds ( over night ) 4-6 cups filtered water and 1 medjool date ,stone removed ( optional ). All whizzed up in a blender and strained through a nut bag or muslin or even a clean pillowcase ! This keeps for 2 days but doesn't last that long in my house !!!! I use it for all my baking and sauces and on cereals Tec.

I guess I look at it as a congratulations to Us - not Dunkin' Donuts. I could care less about them.

What I think this proves is just exactly what you said PETALIA. There is money to be made by catering to those of us who are choosing something other than dairy. I don't care whether it is because of being vegan or because of being lactose intolerant - dairy is a terrible thing in every way. But I'm pretty sure that the biggest number that's changed is the number of vegans.

We are a force! When we see a financial benefit from catering to us, I figure our numbers are growing and that's what I think is great!

still, it's a start. when the paleo fad goes...
and they're keeping soymilk too, right? that's two plant options. and i think that whoever drinks almond milk is also experimenting with lots of other plant milks. It's a matter of time.
Give it time.

Dunkin' Donuts is an immense chain of fast very unhealthy 'food.' The article states that almond milk is America's most popular type of non-diary milk beating soy milk. I'm sure that is why it is offered - because it will make them money. There are lots of lactose intolerant people out there and all kinds of folks who don't drink cow's milk (a paleo diet doesn't include dairy but I imagine they are a very small fraction of their clientele. Cavemen hunting, gathering, and eating doughnuts?) I am sure a fast food chain that offers doughnuts, coffee, sweet sugary drinks, .... is not offering almond milk for health or ethical reasons but for greedy money-making reasons. In my opinion there is nothing to congratulate them about.

Well, dunkin donuts being a vegan spot or not, who cares?
we're talking about a chain coffee shop that serves thousands of people around the country; not about a small bio vegan coffee shop that responds to a teeny tiny little fraction of the coffee market.
change is slow, but change happens. i won't complain if a meat eater orders almond milk latte instead of "regular" milk because he's also buying a donut or something. Let him buy that donuts. Let him come back for more almond milk latte, make him enjoy it so much he'll start buying his own plant milks at home, being more open to veganism... maybe someday he even decides to go meatless. but even if he doesn't, one less glass of cow's milk sold, one more glass for baby calves to enjoy; one more drop in milk demand; one more surge in plant milks demand.
Let's hope and let's rejoice! emoticon

I drink Barley cup coffee substitute and loads of green tea , redbush tea and vitamin water that I make from steeping sliced fruits in spring water overnight . As far as Dunkin Donuts are concerned I don't have a clue what they are !!!! Certainly not sold in Scotland !! :)
Anything containing animal fats of any kind gets a big no no from me .
I make oatcakes to have with my " coffee break " .

Somehow, even though the paleo and meat focused word is strongly represented, the numbers must be heading towards our way of thinking.
