VSH does have some of the most wonderful lectures I've heard on the subject. I would recommend them to anyone, veg or not :)

If you need convincing or information on vegetarianism/veganism, subscribe to VSH Hawaii on YouTube. It is the Vegetarian Society of Hawaii's channel, and they have hour long speeches that are very informative and helpful. Some of my favorite guest speakers have been Hesh Goldstein, Zoe Weil, Rory Freedman (Author of Skinny B#@*). Also, watch the documentaries Forks Over Knives and Vegucated.

When I decided to become vegan, and shortly after that, eat only plant-based whole foods (no processed foods), I was overwhelmed. Would I be able to do it? How would I feed myself as I was learning to cook, and finding recipes? I had a full time job. I had to bring a lunch because there were no vegan options at work. How was this all going to work?

I had the blessing of a friend of a friend who was plant strong, and I hired her to make lunches for me once/week until I could get up to speed (about a month). Well, if you don't have that option, here's something I just ran into. And, frankly, I'm going to try because it's still a lot of pressure sometimes to prepare my meals every weekend for the week. They cook the food according to Dr. Esselstyn's precepts (Forks Over Knives), so it's right up my alley since I don't use oil either. I realize not everyone will be able to afford this option, but if you can, I think it could be a tremendous help for that transitional period. The food itself isn't that expensive compared to restaurant prices, but if you're outside of their "local" delivery area (as I am), I imagine the FedEx charge could have a punch. I'm not endorsing them. I haven't even tried them yet. I just wanted to pass on the information.

Some people think the “plant-based whole foods diet” is extreme. Half a million a year will have their chests opened up and a vein taken from their leg and sewn onto their coronary artery. Some people would call that extreme.
