$80 a month for groceries is really strict!! Did I read that wrong? emoticon

I'd buy rice, dry beans, canned tomatoes, frozen veggies, steel cut oats, sugar, flour, yeast, baking soda, baking powder, oil, milk, eggs and peanut butter. If any money was left, I'd buy cheese, butter, raisins and spices. I'd stick to dried and frozen fruits/veg to avoid waste. With that tight a budget you don't want to throw anything away.

I'd bake my own bread and bake some kind of treat once a week to stave off that feeling of deprivation. Hot cereal for breakfast, rice and beans for lunch and dinner with fresh bread or biscuits.

I try not to microwave in the steamer bags but in glass--too much dicey info on PCBs, especially w/breast cancer in my family.

I love frozen vegs, especially SteamFresh. Sometimes they can be a little expensive but when I balance it against how much I sometimes have to throw out because of spoilage it's worth it to me.

For cost savings, please don't discount frozen veggies. Yes, it's wonderful to have a fridge full of fresh veggies, but sometimes their frozen counterparts have the same nutritional value at much less cost. I know here a head of conventional cauliflower is $4 and I can get the same amount of organic cauliflower, frozen for $2, plus there's no risk of it spoiling before I can use it!

If you have bulk bins near you, they're a huge help. When I'm trying to budget I can make a rice and bean based meal for probably $1.

Looks like others posted some wonderful links. Hoping they help =)

Plant based on a budget was started for people who are on a limited budget or food stamps. They do challenges and meal plans for 1 person or a family. Super recipes there. I agree with Jeff Novick. He has recipes using what you can get at your local Wal-Mart or bargain store(frozen vegs and canned ). plantbasedonabudget.com/plant-based-

www.happyherbivore.com has a grocery list and if you Google Jeff Novick, he has all kinds of cheap recipes on his blog.

I was wondering what a good, cheap grocery list for a vegan would be especially if there aren't any farmer's markets where i am. my food budget is only $80 a month, but i just can't seem to keep food in the house for that long. and we end up using some of the bill money for food... i'm just not sure where to go. i want to keep fresh produce in the house- things that aren't in the frozen aisle. so if you have any advice, that would be greatly appreciated.
