I don't think it's as simple as "What foods are you looking for". For me it was hours of frustration trying to figure out how it all worked. I've just noticed a couple of improvements, the Food Groupings is now something I can use and the Remove Multiple Foods will be a blessing the next time I enter my smoothie ingredients twice. It's getting better but I believe it has much room for improvement. When I started with SP the Tracker certainly didn't draw me in.

What types of foods are you looking for that aren't there?

Just put in your specific foods and save them in your Favorites list. I find that I eat the same 30 or so foods over and over again. The only problems happen when I have maybe, a cup of quinoa which isn't in there, just some member's entry of a specific kind (I think). In that case I Google "calories in cooked quinoa," and I'll usually find the amount of calories of what I ate, so I modify the amount of the already entered quinoa to match the calories. Also, eating out can be a problem, but when I do that I'll usually just make an educated calorie guess and not worry about the protein, carbs, or fats for that night. That's what I'll do tomorrow night when my man and I go out for V-Day.

I know I am retired and have all the time to use all the tools of Sparkpeople, but I have lost my weight with SP and got to goal and started regaining (almost 20 lbs) before I realized I had stopped doing what has worked in the past. I had a previous record to look back on and restarted in November making sure I tracked everything which forced me to look at not what I was eating but my portions. I have lost 15 lbs since then and for me tracking has been a vital part.

I have also given up on using the food tracker because I eat many different things and it is a pain to enter everything I eat. The meal plans aren't very good either. If it wasn't so time consuming I would track my food more often but it is so I don't.

I second Carol's suggestions, when searcing for a new food, pick "Foods entered by other members". I have had good luck finding accurate information. Once your commonly eaten foods are entered, it won't be as much work. It also may help to create food groups for some dishes.

I've given up on the tracker, because, I eat out often & I have to try to break down every ingredient in what I had, which is a guess.

I don't bother with the food tracker anymore. I just write down what I eat in a notebook. I found too many big errors in the foods entered by other members. I don't eat any one thing regularly so entering every little thing I do eat and all the info is such a pain.

Using the Tracker could be so much easier. I turned away a couple of times out of frustration with that that thing. A common format would allow consistency in finding the foods you are searching for. I've now have everything in my "Favorites" in a consistent format and ignore the other lists. It took a long time but it is an invaluable part of any success I'm having. "Food Groupings" has just become a lot easier to use. Put in the effort and make it work for you.

When you search for food, select "foods added by others" or whatever it says.

I hardly ever have to enter a new food. Under options at bottom of screen select search for food added by other members. I hope that is what your talking about.

I had to add all my foods too and it's a pain, but once you do, they are there when you start to type. For example once I start to type Bec, it comes up Becel light margarine because I use it a lot and I click on it. It will take a couple of weeks before your individual preferences are input. If there is an easier way, I haven't found it. I don't worry about the calories - and I think the Spark protein requirements are a tad high for vegans - we get our protein from plants as well. Just try to balance the carbs and fats.

Hi. I had hoped that my intro would have been hi and what I'm doing but I'm already frustrated that I spend more time putting in all my own food items because over half of the things I eat aren't listed or I have to list each food item individually. Am I wrong to presume that ALOT of Vegetarian/Vegan things or items we use are not listed nor does it seem to contribute to the fact that we have to have more of this and that to make up our protein etc? Also my calorie counting on my own showed 1200 calories for today where the food tracker showed 1756. That is a huge difference.
Please if someone could shed some insight and stear me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
Dena
