CRKelly - There are tons of green smoothie recipes out there on the internet if you search. I make mine differently depending on the day, but my usual is:

A couple big handfuls of kale or spinach
Frozen strawberries, blueberries or mango or a combination
Sometimes a banana and sometimes a couple scoops of Lite silken tofu
A 1/2 cup to 1 cup of calcium-fortified orange juice (sometimes I use lite soy milk and sometimes water, but it tastes best with the oj - just more calories and sugar)
And sometimes I add some ground flax seed (when I remember) or a little organic natural peanut butter

They taste surprisingly good (especially with the oj). Even my 5 year old likes it.

KCLAYTON333 - By the way, the green smoothies are a GREAT idea. Sounds like we're almost on the same diet!

KCLAYTON333, I know how you feel about the skinny people - I'm married to one of them. Can eat whatever he wants and only seems to be able to LOSE weight easily. I just joke that when the famine comes, I will be the healthy one

Thanks everyone for your ideas.

MACBEV - I think you may be right. I really love my whole grains. I am trying to eat fewer during the day, but I find that I'm absolutely starving if I don't eat any. I've been eating a slice of Ezekiel Sprouted Grain Bread with a little peanut butter and fruit for breakfast. Maybe next week I will try to switch to a green smoothie everyday to take the bread out of the equation and see what happens. Thanks for your comments. It still just makes me so frustrated when I see skinny people eating fast food or drinking a soda. :)

KCLAYTON333,

It's the whole grains that are slowing you down. I know because this happens to me! Sounds like your diet is great otherwise. I am struggling too, and am trying to find things that I can substitute for the grains. I'm not saying you have to cut them out totally, but make them an exception.

I try to think of my diet as veggies, beans, and fruit, with everything else being just occasional. I never thought of myself as addicted to bread, but it harder to do without than I ever would have guessed. I think I need to go back to the high fiber tortillas - and not too many!

Good luck to you!

;)

Be careful about eating too few calories to lose weight, too. I was eating about 800 calories per day and exercising an hour a day and wasn't losing weight. Then I gave up and focused on metabolism-researched that I should have 1600 calories per day, so I doubled my calories (but NOT with junk food-with mostly plants and using fruit sweetened deserts-almost no sugar and no artificial sweeteners). Suddenly, while doubling my calories, I started losing weight easily. However, I have to keep fooling my metabolism by eating about 500 more calories every 3rd or 4th day so it doesn't learn what I'm doing and shut down.

Reading this thread just makes me wonder if something is wrong with me. All of you are talking about sugar and sodas and chips. I feel like I've given up everything and I'm still having a hard time loosing weight. It just sucks. I finally broke into the 140s this week, and yes, I have lost almost 75 pounds in one year, but all I drink is water and green tea with no sweetner. I gave up diet coke and wine, both of which I used to drink a lot of. I became completely vegan and eat a pretty low-fat diet. I hardly ever use oil, but I do eat some nuts and avocados so I get some healthy fats, but not too much. I feel like I should be super skinny. What is it going to take? It just took me almost 4 months to loose 10 pounds. My husband thinks that I've just been cursed with a slow metabolism. Oh well, if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them, because I seriously don't think I can give up anything else. Oh, and I exercise for about an hour everyday. AAHHHH! I've been really trying to watch my portion sizes lately, but it seems like with only eating veggies, beans, fruit and whole grains, I shouldn't have to worry so much about portion sizes.

Thank you Spark pals for your motivating comments.
Since January, I have eliminated meat from my diet..(had a few unfortunate lapses). I seem to have cut out meat and replaced it with simple carbs.
My issue is how does one become a healthy vegetarian?

my wife just had a test done and it showed her kidney function was not as good as they would have liked for the test, but one year it was good, it was taken when she had to have test where she had to drink a lot of water, she also is an exclusive pepsi drinker, that has changed her mind plus because of my change she is watching her diet more

I know that even if I have diet soda I get super puffy. I try to not drink it unless I hace a HUGE craving or I am sick.

There is some sort of new 'adult soda' out...I guess they are good and they have just a tad of sugar and the like. Sometimes when I crave a soda I will have soda water with a splash of juice (my daughter likes it with OJ).

I'm a chronic soda drinker. I stopped, but seemed to have traded them for slurpees. Really need to stop that. And drinking tea with sugar - I keep trying to stick to Stevia, but it's so much easier to order my tea with sugar. :P And chips. That is my big vice, I really need to cut it out. :P Those are my goals for the next two weeks, to cut out these junk foods.

Yes, I would like to know what kind of suger! Was it worth it? Was it YUMMY sugar?? Mmm...I can think of so many good sugary treats I would love but I will not type them!

I had too much sodium yesterday. It came from prepared soup (no surprise) and cheese and bread.

I just kicked the diet soda habit for about the 5th time. I have switched to water. Hopefully this time I am will make it. I have been reading "Spark" and set some quick start goals for the first week and put giving up soda on that. So far so good. Water is tasting better and better.

Only lunchtime now but everything is on track.

Yesterday I was under range for calories and fat, in range for carbohyrate, protein, sodium, fibre and potassium.

How did you come to OD on sugar? You've only half 'fessed up so far! emoticon
