I eat about five times per day during the week and slack to 1-3 times per day on the weekends...perhaps if you broke it up into smaller, more frequent meals, you might not feel so sluggish?

I drink a protein shake at 4:30 a.m. pre-lift session, 7:30 a.m.-ish post-lift session, 1/2 apple (fiber, carbs) 10:00 a.m.-ish, protein shake 12:00 p.m.-ish, 1/2 apple 3:00 p.m.-ish and dinner anywhere 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.-ish, depending on what I do after work.

I eat 5-6 meals a day. I try to keep each meal to around 300 calories. I eat about every 3 hours. I usually do breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, dinner. Then, if I feel the need after dinner, I'll have a small evening snack, but only if I'm hungry.

I feel this works best for me because I'm never hungry and it keeps my energy and blood sugar at a fairly even level all day.

I never go without breakfast and have a bowl of fruit & nut muesli with oatly milk substitute and a cup of tea and a pro-biotic yogurt drink. I have a small lunch, usually salad or a low fat soup. Dinner usually consists of loads of veg with either quinoa or brown rice or a baked sweet potato and sometimes a meat substitute like quorn or tofu (usually marinated) or a nut cutlet. I do snack but only on either fruit or nuts (small handful) or sprouted seeds (ie lentils, snow peas, mung beans, alfalfa, chickpeas etc).

I am mini meal person too. Typically they all stay around 200 calories, but I do have a big breakfast... usually around 400 calories. I like breakfast food and coffee.

Am I the only one who eats 6x a day? I guess they would be snacks, because they all stay around 150-200 calories, but It keeps my energy through the roof! & I'm losing weight steadily so I'd say its working ;)

I eat 6-7 times a day, but rarely have over 350-400 calories at a sitting. Most of my "meals" are 100-150 calorie snacks.

I usually try to eat four small meals. For me this helps prevent night time snacking.

I eat 3 meals a day and snack on fruit. I couldn't function either with less and going without makes me feel very grumpy.

I eat three meals a day, no more, no less. And they are 5 hours apart.

I have zero energy if I deviate from this; my body expects it, and feeding it good food when it is scheduled does good things for me :)

For optimum health it is essential to get the balance right when you are vegetarian or vegan. I have a book that I read every day called " Dr Gillian McKeiths ultimate health plan " and although it is not entirely vegetarian it does give good guide lines as to what nutrients are available from a wide range of foods. It is important to get to know which foods give the best nutrients that we need. Sprouted seeds are little power houses of nutrients and I always have some on the go.

Normally, I would eat one. But, because I've doing the Fast for Darfur and we should only eat 1,000 to 1,200 calories per day and I'm vegetarian. I wasn't getting enough protein and iron. So, I try to snack at lunch like a breakfast bar or lunch and dinner.

I do what I can to eat three main meals a day, and I'm generally always snacking on something. My mom often buys crackers and cheese, so I generally end up eating crackers as a snack with her. I have been known to also snack on multigrain cheerios when I have the chance.

In short, 3 meals and some sort of almost constant snacking.

I am always eating too. Most of my big meals ( breakfast, lunch and dinner) are very low in calories so I am snacking throughout the day( 3-4 snacks a day). So far it is working for me, when it stops I will change it.

I went from 15stone to 13stone on a strict calorie count but then put on 1 stone so decided that calorie counting is out for me because I can't keep it up all the time. I then tried the GI diet and am losing far slower but am losing a steady 1-2 lb per week. I always eat breakfast.GI recommends 3 meals and 3 snacks per day but I find that I do not always need the snacks.I am vegetarian.

When I first started loosing two years ago, I changed the free-for-all eating plan to a strict three meals a day, and I had to teach myself to eat breakfast. I was very strict with snacking at first, I wasn't calorie balancing, I just began eating well, and that worked for a long time. Having three big meals helped me stop thinking about putting something in my mouth all the time, which would end up being junk.

After loosing 80lbs, I had major life crisis, gained 35lbs last winter.

Started over this spring, got into exercise, strict vegetarianism, and learned to listen very hard to my body.

I need structure - I have to be careful about eating too many little meals or I feel like I'm doing nothing but eat and never feel quite satisfied, RECIPE FOR DISASTER for me. I did have to add a snack after work so that I can workout before dinner, otherwise I will get lazy and tired. And now I added an after dinner snack (tiny), in order to set myself up for success by allowing a last snack of the day.

Workout times have a HUGE amount to do with how I have to eat, so that I have anough energy and don't get lazy.

SO, my days look like this now:
~20 minute AM workout
~Breakfast (250 calories)
~Lunch (400-500 cal)
~After work snack (200 cal or less)
~PM workout
~Dinner (500-700 cal)
~PM snack (160 cal - a hot cocoa drink made with organic raw cacao powder, almond milk, agave, and cinnamon)

So I guess the answer is: one small meal, two bigger ones, and two small snacks.

Switch things around until you find what works. I was having trouble in the mornings after I started the AM workout because I'd be STARVING. All it took was adding 100 cal handful of walnuts to my Kashi Go Lean with almond milk, and that holds me until lunch. The solutions can be tiny and simple -- you will find it!

We typically eat 2 meals (lunch and dinner), and we experience no energy issues, because this is how we always eat. I like to give my body time to devote to something other than digestion, rather than noshing all day. I know frequent small meals is the conventional wisdom, but I have a different point of view on it.

To each his or her own.

It varies for me. sometimes 3 meals a day sometimes 3 meals and 1 or 2 snacks. I'm trying to do the smaller meals with snacks more often but sometimes I'm just too busy to stop and have a snack.

my husband and I eat like 8 times a day. Making each meal between 100 and 250 calories each one. I guess some are more snacks, but it's working well for us!

And it's very repetitive, but the foods are ones we like, so that works well for us as well ;) no worries about what to fix for this meal!

I am the old school three meals a day no snacking in between. Even though I am fairly active, I find I have to force myself to eat a snack just to get my calorie and nutrient totals up properly. I have no idea what I will do on maintenance when I have to eat normal calories. I am quite satisfied with what I eat now and never feel hungry at all except at regular meal times and after my intense morning workouts.

I am always eating. I have 3 full meals a day and usually 3 mini meals/snacks. My snacks are fruits or nuts or a serving or two of veggies. I am pretty active and I need to eat and feel hungry every 2-3 hours.

Welcome, I can share what I am doing and I am sure others will too.
I used to beleive in eating 3 meals a day, big meals.
Then I began eating smaller meals but I ate all the time.
NOW, I eat 3 measured meals a day, I try to keep the calories under 400 per meal-but I eat what I want I just control the portions.
I eat 2 sometimes 3 small snacks a day and sometime just a warm cup of vegtable broth, I try to keep snacks to under 200 calories
For the day I keep my total calories under 1800 and it seems to be working I don't feel hungrey because I watch my nutrietional needs as well. I hope this helps.
this is a journey we are all learning on so enjoy it. namaste

I'm trying to break away from the routine of eating a set number of three meals a day but I'm having such a hard time breaking the habit. I think it's coming down to my proportions of the meal being just too big because usually after eating I'm left feeling satisfied hours later.

Do you notice any sort of difference in your levels of energy based on when and how often you eat?
