You would be amazed how many products contain gelatin or anchovy paste or powder.
There are some dairy yogurts out there that do not contain gelatin but I still prefer soy yogurt also.

I was so upset the day I realized regular yogurt has gelatin in it, because I love yogurt. Then I discovered soy yogurt and eat that now. I think I almost prefer it to regular yogurt now.

When I first tried soy yogurt, I really hated it. Now I crave it all the time and eat tons of it. I think that if you dislike it at first, you could always try a different brand.

I did look there, but they will only ship to the continental US-which while ironically Alaska IS on the same continent-it is not considered the continental US when referring to shipping. emoticon

Did you try Pangea to order the Daiya? I looked on their site and think maybe you can get it there. They say the Daiya shreds have to be shipped with "freezy packs" to make sure they get to you okay. Here's the link: www.veganstore.com/vegan-foo

Hope you can!

Hi! Welcome to the Team. I don't do dairy either (no eggs, either, as a vegan), so I don't bother with the SP meal plans. I like the coconut yogurt, but I don't have it that often. I use the silken tofu to make a great Alfredo sauce cheezed up with Nutritional Yeast. There are recipes made with cashews also. In fact there's something I've wanted to try called MimicCreme mimiccreme.com/ which is a dairy substitute made from cashews and they say you can make great ice cream and sauces with it. Also there's a new cheese substitute called Daiya www.daiyafoods.com/ that I'd love to try.

An extra side note ~

If you have a Trader Joe's near you - I REALLY like the Trader Joe's Soy Yogurt and you really can't beat the prices they have on most items (if you have one near you).

:) I still do dairy on occasion (love real butter & cheese too much) but the T.J.'s soy yogurt helped me kick one more dairy product off my list. :)

I concur with the idea soy yogurt and silken tofu. I use them often and you can buy them in many different flavors.

I LOVE coconut milk yogurt-and I wasn't really a yogurt person either. It has no dairy (I don't do dairy either).
I freeze it and use it to make shakes-it's SO SMOOTH! I really like it. There are a lot of different flavors as well. I only found 2 flavors at Safeway/Carrs, I had to find the others in a specialty health food store.
But it's well worth checking out.
Good luck!!!

I am trying to figure out what I can substitute for yogurt. The fact that I don't eat or drink dairy products, I don't like the way most yogurt taste either. I am trying to follow a meal plan but clueless about a sub for yogurt...Any ideas??
