I never saw it when it was on air, but, heard friends talk about it and was hooked. We kind of play it in the background when we're busy doing other things, just to have something on.

Ha, just a generational thing, I'm sure. My kids like both, since theyr'e exposed to both.
I was born in the 80s and raised by my grandfathers who were trekkies.
My husband is a bit older and saw Star Wars in theaters and never got into Star Trek. Star Wars is really the only sci fi he's gotten into, as he's not a reader.

Guess I'm not an optimist. lol. When I was young, my Uncle loaned me a book called "The Last Man on Earth". It was a compilation of short sci-fi stories. Fascinating read.

Thanks for engaging with me. =) And ooooo, Firefly. There is a show I haven't thought about in a while. I never saw it while it was still on the air, but I had a good friend who had every episode on DVD. We would have date nights once a month where our hubbies would play video games and we would watch Firefly and eat popcorn and ice cream. Then we had kids... now our get-togethers are only a few times a year and don't include episode binges. LOL. And I loved your video!!! How cool is that?

I have never understood the Star Wars vs Star Trek thing. While I am not a huge fan of either, both are equally loved in our house by my son and husband. My favorite space fantasies are the ones the portray our civilization's potential next step. For instance, I like the idea in Passenger that a company would be sending people out to homestead on new planets. I find the same thing appealing about Interstellar and the quest for a new planet for us to settle (though I would prefer everyone on Earth not potentially dying). As someone who has a hobby farm and fantasizes about becoming self-sufficient and homesteading, the thought of doing it on a galactic level would be a amazing.

I like the Firefly universe. Colonization of other worlds and moons would obviously show up with lots of high technology and impressive civilization, but, even more rough and tumble agrarian areas. Then heck, even like a Pernese situation, where some colonies are cut off from the high tech so long, they forget they didn't originate in that place and develop their own history.

Hard to say how far off we are from interstellar travel, but, it's a favorite topic in my house, too (warring factions of Star Wars vs Star Trek ;) ).

My science brag? My oldest was featured on the Bad Astronomer blog, from Phil Plait, about 10 years ago, when he was a precocious 4 year old giving me a lecture on the solar system.

Last weekend my 8-year-old and I went on a date that included a visit to the movie theater to see Passenger. This film came up during dinner last night, as did many of our other "space themed" favorites - The Martian, Interstellar, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. It was fun listening to my family dream about what it will look like when the human race begins exploring and colonizing space. It also seemed like a topic of conversation that might be enjoyed by my fellow Geeks and Nerds. =)

So, here are some questions to get you going (and feel free to look at this logically or with your fantasy goggles on): How do you think we will begin exploring space? (And, yes I know we are currently exploring space, but I mean physically exploring) Are there other races out there? Which of your favorite space-themed fandom do you hope it will be like? What would you want your job to be (work aboard a ship, exploring, homesteading, space military, etc.)? Or would you choose to stay on Earth?
