DARKMORNING - there is a comics story, but the catalyzing event was quite different - it did not involve the Avengers directly, but group of younger heroes called the New Warriors that had a fight with a group of super villains across from a school in Stamford, CN, that ended up killing hundreds of children. But the positions that Cap and Iron Man stake out are the same - Cap being anti-registration and Tony being pro-registration and training. Bucky was not a part of that story at all - he did not "return" until after Captain America #500 (The Death of Captain America), when Tony asked him to take Steve's shield and take up the mantle of Captain America. Although Bucky had no love for Tony Stark, he did, in fact, become Captain America.

I think that's the saddest thing about it - that they just don't LISTEN to each other, and also that they don't say what they should say. I really miss the more lighthearted story we got in the first Avengers movie, as well.

I saw it yesterday. A little disappointed by the ending. At some point if these guys just learn to talk to one another a lot of their problems could have been resolved. It ended on a very down note for me. I don't mind when movies have a dark period, especially when I know there's more to come, but there's very little hope in their positions in this one.

I just saw it on Sunday. I didn't enjoy seeing my good guys fight each other, the whole thing made me sad. It seemed pointless to talk about how they have to reduce their collateral damage but still destroy a ton of stuff. But it's a movie and that's what people want to see I guess. It made me terribly miss the light(er) hearted Joss Avengers movie. I've never read the comics themselves, but I was wondering if there was a story in them that they took from for the movie. But I guess PMCCALL answered that for me :)

I agree - I don't think there's supposed to be an easy answer. Each situation that the Avengers have faced have no clear cut parameters. It's a frantic "Save the world!" The fact that the World Security Council thought dropping a bomb on NYC was a good way to end things and then the governments are upset over what happened in Lagos...*sigh*

I don't think Tony is a villain and neither is Steve. I think Tony wants some kind of control or oversight because he is afraid of what he can do-he says that he is to blame for Sokovia because of Ultron. I think he is frightened of not only what his weapons were able to do, but also what he may become if he is not stopped. He has consistently been getting darker the longer the series has continued. I'm interested to see how things end up. I just had a frightening thought - eventually, this movie series will end. What we will do then?

Oh, yes, indeed I have seen it.

I knew it was going to tear me up when they announced it two years ago and YEP - it tore me up.

The comics event sent me into a depression, NGL - that was so painful. The movie wasn't quite that bad.

I am really irritated with fandom wank about it, tho - I think I got out of it what the Russo's intended - a strong feeling that there isn't a right answer. I have no patience for either the "Tony is a villain" camp nor the "Steve started it" camp. Unfortunately, I see a lot more of the former. Maybe it's unpopular, but I have a great deal of empathy for Tony.

Hello all!

Has anyone else seen Civil War? (I'm guessing you have...) Thoughts? Feels? Theories?
