I'll defend their depth to the grave. I think Kylo Ren is one of the more complex villains I've seen lately. He's not all bad - he's conflicted, and trying to make that final move to the dark side. Raw and unfinished. I like that, because we get to see his evolution as a character - and Rey's, on the same front. Rey is an optimistic, cheerful girl plucking along in a desolate sort of place and then a plot drops on her. Those two, at least, are really elegantly crafted foils. I can't wait until they start peeling their layers so we see more about what makes them tick in the next movie. I'm excited for that. If we don't get that, I'll be sad.

I really hope so. I think the characters presented were lacking a little depth, but there does seem to be so much potential. I'm really interested to see more of Rey. There needs to be more strong female characters, especially in the action movie arena.

I loved this movie so much. All the little easter egg nods to the previous movies, it sort of felt like a goodbye to the previous era. I think that was deliberate - JJ Abrams had to take a step back so he could then go forward. I expect the next film to diverge greatly from the "safe" story area and do new things.

I enjoyed it. It was quite entertaining. The main antagonist comes of as a pouty little crybaby, which was irritating; however, he had a wild rage that was interesting to see in a dark sider. I just wish it had been directed in a more productive (destructive) way :P

It definitely felt like a nod to the originals, which was nice - and fun to see the old crew back. I like your assessment, BRODY, about Abrams playing it safe. I was a little sad at the lack of character development and predictability of the story, but over all, I enjoyed it and will see it again :)

I agree. While it didn't break any new ground in terms of story I thought it was more entertaining than the three prequals. I think George Lucas had some interesting ideas that he was trying to explore, I just don't think he was enough of a storyteller to pull them off. A great director in terms of what he brought to cinema in terms of technological breakthroughs and usage. Also, in terms of broad-strokes in terms of story I thought he really had something. He just wasn't a good enough writer to make it work.

J.J. played it safe and made a movie the fans would like. There are plot holes, not a lot of character development, the same story as episode IV with a few twists, etc. The combined whole is still a very good movie.

Anyone seen it yet? I saw it opening weekend and loved it. Not without it's issues, but I loved it.
