My friend Jaym was there with the SFWA. Sounds like a really fun convention! We've got our con season schedule pretty full up right now and I'm bummed we're missing some big ones in the coming weekends.

Who was your friend who was at our Con? Maybe I know them or at least got to talk with them this weekend. It was a particularly wonderful Con!

We do the same thing with packing healthy food choices. It helped that the hotel had a great breakfast bar with some very good choices and an afternoon break with good snacks, including veggies and hummus. Both were included in the room price, so that encouraged people to eat better. We took some cheese sticks, peanut butter, and such for in between munchies. Most of my 'less healthy' choices involved evening liquid refreshments. ;)

One of my friends was a guest at ConCarolinas and she had a blast. Con eating is always really difficult since fast food seems to be the most abundant.

When we go to cons we always fill a cooler with healthy sandwich fixins and snacks so we're less tempted by everything else. (If we're not driving we take a trip to the store in a cab or hitch a ride with a friend.) We start the day with turkey sandwiches or wraps with lots of fresh spinach for breakfast, then pack our bags with jerky (homemade if we've got time), dried fruit, and nut/seed bars. It saves us a ton of money, and it helps us make a few healthier choices.

That's not to say we don't eat some garbage at Cons. It's pretty much inevitable. But it helps balance things out.

Sounds so fun! Glad to hear that maybe some people are realizing they can balance the fun geeky life with a healthy life :) And the idea of a "healthy geek" room is awesome!

I am back and in recovery from ConCarolinas this weekend. I did alllll the geeky things, but had particular fun with filking with my friends. Any other filkers around here?

I did fairly well with healthy eating for the weekend, but I sure saw A LOT of unhealthy eating! The majority of folks at the Con were overweight and many had disabilities related to obesity. It made me think about why geeky folks tend to be over weight. We tend to be too sedentary for one thing.

On the positive, I also saw quite a few old friends who have lost a great deal of weight and are working on being healthy. I *think* the idea of being healthy geeks may be slowly getting around. There were also fewer room parties, which is where most of the bad eating and drinking take place. Maybe I'll plan a "Healthy Geek" room party next year and see what happens.
