So, I am a big fan of the Google products. I also am in a D&D group that recently had 2 members relocate out of the area. I decided to bring that D&D group to Google+ Hangouts and it has been a SMASHING success.

Then, a few days ago, I was thinking about other ways to stay motivated in a diet/exercise program and it hit me.....Hangouts!

My first post was to Google+. I put out a call for folks that want to lose weight. After a few days of no response (partly due to the limited number of people following me), I realized that I was trying to take weightloss to the folks who use technology. It would be much more logical to bring technology to the folks trying to lose weight.

That is why I am here. I would like to assemble a group of 10 people and run an experiment into the foray of "Diet/Exercise Support Groups". Isn't the face-to-face accountability what is really effective about WW? So, I don't want to put out the call for interested parties without you really knowing what you are in for...

I would like to try setting up a regular hangout. Perhaps every night. Perhaps a few times per week. In that hangout we could share our stories from the day and support each other face-to-face. We would track nutrition and exercise right here in SparkPeople. The Google+ would just be the reinforcement.

Things to consider:

- You will need a Google+ account. It is easy to set up. It takes a little to figure out the relationship of circles to contacts, but it isn't too bad.
- You need a webcam. Most new laptops have them built in, but Staples has them for less than $40. This is a decent investment anyway you look at it. Video chat is a growing form of communication.
- Realize that Google+ uses real names. Leaving the anonymity of SparkPeople isn't for everyone, so be aware of that going in.
- I would like to make a photographic journal of our adventure. Meaning, I would take screenshots of the hangouts and mark them with date and weight for us to document the journey (thinking that I can keep these in a shared Google Drive could remove the pictures if you leave the group).
- I don't want to limit the group, but the Hangouts are limited to 10 people at a time, and I would feel worse leaving someone out of a Hangout when they really need it, so I want to stick with 10 to begin with.
- I am only posting this here in the Geeks and Nerds team to see what interest there is. I may repost in other teams if I don't get 9 interested folks in the next few days.

This is all new to me too. If you have any ideas or suggestions for a smoother implementation, let me know. I am hoping that by having a group of 10 of us, we can field a Hangout of 5 or 6 on a regular basis.

Post if you are really interested in making some changes. I have been up and down on the scale, and am hoping that some real-life support will help me get it down and keep it down.
