That can happen to me when I'm asked a question about something I am passionate (or just way too interested in).

I've learned to temper my self, just giving small, concise answers. After I answer, I'll ask if that answered their question. Sometimes it doesn't, and often a great conversation will evolve.

Was that the answer you were looking for?

When someone asks you a question, do you ever start answering and then realize that the questioner is looking confused, so you stop and ask "how much detail do you want?"

I ask because I get asked stuff often and then answer and realize I am losing the questioner.
