Anybody have any fun plans for the 4th? This is my first 4th here so not sure where to go to what to do. In fact this is my first 4th in the states in 3 years! I am not a huge advocate of fireworks so what else is there?

I would totally be down to meet some ladies or men in the area. I moved here in 2014 but was in Liberia for two months then back for 5 then in Jamaica for 2+ years. I have not met many people in the area as I have not worked or joined clubs or groups knowing that I would be leaving for such an extended period of time. Now that I am back, I find it hard to get motivated and frustrating to actually eat healthy. So if any of you would like to meet up I would totally be thrilled to do so. Thanks.

I really need to start monitoring what I eat again. I saw where you posted about the Chicken Run in Fair Oaks & I walked it one year with my daughter. We were the very last to come in and most everyone else had already left but we did finish it!
The water stations still had water, but all the people had left, and one guy at the end, said we had a good start on the next years run. lol
I had lung cancer at the time so I was thankful that I could do it all and my DD was so good & patient, she walked with me and I know it was hard for her, she wanted to run so bad. I told her she should go ahead and run but she wouldn't do it. She & I walked the track for over 3 hours and came in dead last but it was so good for me.
I don't think I could do it again! I now have scar tissue on my lung from the radiation and have to use oxygen at night, so I don''t think I could do it now. I can & should monitor my food though, and you guys have inspired me to at least try:)

Remember if you can't exercise than monitor what you eat. Weight loss is knowing what you eat and how many calories you are eating eat day. Make sure you measure your food and log what you eat in the Sparks food tracker (and use the Mobile Spark app if you are on the go). Try to stay within your calorie range.

I don't get to exercise as much as I like because of my work schedule and family, but I can control what I eat and I'm still able to lose weight without hitting the gym every night.

If you monitor your food for two weeks and don't see the scale move then you might need to play with your calorie range. emoticon

I know that monitoring is hard, but we all monitor something...our gas tank, our bank account, we monitor if we are low on milk and toilet paper (wouldn't want to run out of those). emoticon emoticon

So, monitor the most important thing in life...YOU!!!! Because you are needed, you are counted on, and you are worth it!!!!! emoticon emoticon

Barb, I would like to know more about how you lost the weight? I am the heaviest I have ever been right now & really want to do something about it but I just don't know what.
It sounds like you are close to your sister and it is so great having someone to share your experiences with. The trip to Italy sounds pretty awesome!
I walked in the Shamrock one year but haven't been back. These past couple of years I haven't been eating right or exercising but I sure hope to again someday soon:)
Katie, what is a ketogenic diet? I hope your knee heals soon!

Yes, thanks for doing this! At the moment I'm not doing as well as I want to, but I'm working on it. I have problems with arthritis in my right knee & was told I need a complete knee replace (which may not be true -- keep your fingers crossed!) so haven't been able to do water aerobics or walk -- the only 2 exercises I can do because of my bad back.

This has been going on for almost 2 years, so I've put on more weight than I'm comfortable with -- now trying to get completely on a ketogenic eating plan, and that's harder than it sounds. But it's very effective, and that's so tempting I'm going to keep at it until I succeed!

Barb that is so great! Please send us pictures of you at the Shamrock Marathon! I am so proud of you for personally challenging yourself.

The last few pounds are always the hardest. I'm having the same problem taking off my last 10-15 pounds too.

Hi - Thank you for the Spark Goodie!!
Sacramento has been my home for over 30 years. My husband, our cat, and I live in Land Park. I go to Jazzercise in South Land Park, and occasionally at Swanson Park. After retiring in February 2014, I started to work out and then went on to food management. I've lost 90 lbs in that time. I still have about 15 more to lose, which I will do. It comes off slowly these days.
I built up my strength and endurance, and hiked for 2 weeks in Italy last September. My sister and I have vowed to do it again in Ireland in the spring of 2018. In the mean time, I'm working on running/jogging. I'll be running the 5K at the Shamrock Marathon on 3/11/17. I've walked many 5K's, but never run one. So this is a personal challenge for myself.
