I try to do my outside workouts (running and biking) earlier, and be well-hydrated.

For cycling, I keep two of my 3 water bottles in the freezer, and I might add a 4th bottle this year. On the really hot days, I wind up wearing 1/2 to a full bottle.

For running, I have graduated "coping" mechanisms for the heat (because I overheat terribly when I run). I'm in a tank shirt and shorts from 68-degrees onward, and then it goes like this:

* 70-80 degrees: add sweatband and carry ice-water (pour some on shoulders, head and neck periodically)
* 80-85 degrees: soak one of those neck-cooling things in icewater before the run, and add that in.
* 85-90 degrees: add cold, wet rag over the heart.
* 90+ degrees: soak the tank shirt in cold water before putting it on, and possibly spritz self with water.

All of these things delay the point where you get massively overheated, and they really do help. But if you can work out in the cooler temperatures, that helps the most!

One day at a time...

I've been doing gardening for the past two days. It's hot, but I'm keeping hydrated.

I went out yesterday morning at 5:30am and it was already 73. The air was stagnet and it was awful. But I did about 20 min worth of running... which is good for me w/ asthma and the air like that. I have been going to the gym to work out there--but even that has been a challenge. My other options are wii games. I have wii fit, ea active, biggest loser, etc. I crank up the AC and go! LOL... Since I'm not from here and am not a fan of warm weather--I end up doing that a lot (AC), even when it's in the 80s--which I feel is hot :)

well, i still need to get my run in about once every 3 to 4 days and i am just an outdoor person...i ran yesterday evening at 6pm--4 miles.....it was not too bad since half the run was in the shade...

the other days i will stay indoors and do a TJam video and do some JM's ST dvd...

but i don't plan on making it a plan to run in the 100F...it made me feel good to be able to have handled it yesterday, but i don't look forward to doing it....

When I can't get out early, I have two options. One - stationary bike. Two - SPARK VIDEO. The former offers the chance to study for my upcoming teaching exam or read a book. Needless to say, the latter offers far more variety. Both, however, offer air conditioning.

I'm not a morning person by a long shot, but I got up at 6am to run this morning. It was nice and quiet and there was a little breeze, and the bonus was coming home to a quiet house because the husband and kids were STILL in bed!

I've got a few excuses not to exercise right now, but the one I'm sure I share with y'all is the heat. What are folks doing to beat the heat and keep up the healthy lifestyle?
