The people who used to live across the street used to summer in Canada at a cabin in a area that was closed in winter. It had power, and a water pump, but they had to boil water for bathing and use an outhouse. Not my idea of fun.

I am a skier.................. well, was a skier. When attending Michigan Tech in the UP of Michigan I skied every day as soon as we had snow until it melted; about 6 months of good skiing. Now I am where the days are warm and not too much of a chance for skiing, esp. with two hip implants. But I like what I have.

Linda and Dennis and all who live in Southern climes:

I am jealous of your long growing season and the ability to have colorful blooms every month of the year. On the other hand if I lived in a southern clime my winter blooms would be under-tended while I took off for northern snow and ski slopes. In a way I am glad that I have a four or five month reprieve from gardening. And traveling to warm places in the winter months makes so much more sense than travelling to them in the summer.

I donned rubber boots and got down in the run to remove a natural dam that was impeding the flow of water. I needed pitchfork, clippers, camping saw and hoe to remove the debris that had formed in the crook of the brook. Saw little frogs in there and I think I scared them away. Hope I didn't completely ruin their habitat.

Linda: like seedum but they are deer candy. I like my visitors but don't want them eating my flowers. I am beginning to taper off the corn I leave out for them and place it closer to the woods,

The daffodils are beautiful, Ruth! Thanks for the recipe.

I have iris that will flower soon in the back. We are planting sedum in the front. Our yaupon holly shrubs have extended their roots to where you have to plant ground cover with shallow root system, so I found sedum at the nursery. I got three varieties for visual interest. We used to plant begonias but they are choked out now.

Also laundry day and vacuuming. Work day. Should count as exercise.

Being blessed with grandchildren, Sue, is awesome. Glad you can enjoy them.

Thanks for posting the picture of the daffodils, Ruth. I can only wish as winter - or at least the snow - has returned today! It's been snowing lightly since early this morning and we already have about 3-5 cm (5 cms is about 2 inches). And just when I was getting used to seeing lots of bare ground. It'll be several weeks before the 2 or three lonely daffodils that come up in out small front bed make an appearance. We used to have lots of tulips that bloomed along the side planted by the previous owner but they are few and far between now. Guess we should add some new bulbs sometime if we want to see more tulips in the spring.

Glad that the new computer is up and working like a charm, Sue, You'll be a busy lady looking after the grandchildren today. I know our one 6 year old grandson can wear us out a bit, How many grandchildren do you have and how old are they?

Quiet day today - just getting a bit of laundry done and I really should get some knitting done although the sleeveless summer top that I'm working on seems out of whack with what I'm seeing outside my window today!

Plans for today are to work in the garden. Spray deer repellent on the emerging lilies and irises, other deer edibles.

I NEED to try out te electric bike before I hop on one in May for a three day trip into the countryside. A little familiarity with the differences would make the ride easier.

The daffs extend from one end of the house to the other, I just don't have a wide angle lens. But they are my joy in spring.

Here is the recipe Nell, for the zero points cheese cake. Zero points doesn't mean zero calories, just foods on the WW program that are deemed healthy, and therefore zero points. Most of the items you mentioned aren't in this recipe.

Here it is:

Preheat oven to 350

3 eggs
3 C fat-free no sugar added plain Greek yogurt
1 small box fat free instant cheesecake pudding flavor
3 TBS Stevia or Splenda
1TBS of vanilla extract or almond extract

Spray a 9 in. spring form pan with no-fat cooking spray
In a large bowl combine eggs, Stevia, extract, beat well. Add pudding mix, yogurt. Mix well.

Pour into spring form pan and bake for 30 minutes (I need 40 minutes in my oven).

Allow to cool, then place in the refrigerator. Chill for a minimum of two hours(. Note: It will not be high)

Bowled, then walked today. I have spent the afternoon trying to make reservations for limos and trains to take me to Newark NJ, airport and port. Frustrating, to say the least, After I spend hours trying to do it myself on my phone or computer I break down and call the toll free number and get a pro to do it in one minute. I'm sure companies can save a bundle with on line buying and reservations, but I still like the personal touch. If I goof up I have to pay for the return fees, if they goof up, I am exonerated.

Tell us about a time when you just called the 1-800 number and got the job done quickly and efficiently.

Dennis-enjoy your golf and your guests. When I visited Tucson, I enjoyed the scenery a lot.

Ruth-Yay for spring prep! Getting the bikes ready is a sure sign of spring!

I got my new computer and it's sweet! Luckily, I only have the mobile library today since I'll be busy transferring files from the old to the new. And getting ready to grandsit tomorrow. My daughter is proctoring a practice SAT, so I'll be there early and all day.

Dennis - It sounds like you had a fun day yesterday. Enjoy your round of golf.

Ruth - Isn't it so annoying when you hit something you don't want to and a your whole post disappears? It's happened to me on a number of occasions. Sometimes I have the time and patience to go back and re-type my post and sometimes I just forget it! If I had a group of waling friends I'd probably get in more walking outdoors too although waling around here isn't ideal in the winter.
We're just getting in to some weather that's nicer for walking. We actually got up to 8-10 C yesterday (high 40s to 50) although it was overcast. It's finally looking and feeling more like early spring! I even put on a light coat when I went to pick up my friend from her physio appointment since i was finding my light winter jacket too warm. Our front lawn which gets lots of sun, is about half bare now and the snow banks have gone WAY down this week.

Quiet day today - hubby will be out running his usual Friday errands and I'll enjoy the sunshine from indoors and get in a workout a bit later.

Have a good day everyone!

Maybe Ruth could share the recipe?

Some who make Cowboy Stew use canned vegetables or frozen. In a pinch, that works too.

Sore today, too much walking. I have upped my exercise and got carried away. Resting today.

Making more crafts today.

It is another beautiful day, my iris stalks are coming up in the back yard, bluebonnets are everywhere!

Enjoy your families, new stuff, cooking, walking, golfing... all your day, everyone!

Third time
s a charm. My messages have been erased twice today.

Linda, I have a recipe for Hamburger soup that sounds a lot like your cowboy stew. Nell: interesting thought to put coffee in the stew. I might like that. I'm just glad there are no weary cowpokes in it.

I had a truncated walk around the park this afternoon. We were accommodating a newbie who was always behind and not used to walking three miles. The weather promises to be beautiful for the weekend, so maybe I'll get in walks on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I need to get my bicycle out and oil it up for the season.

My sister and niece came by today to share the Ajiaco with me. Now I have to make a zero points cheesecake and a zero points soup so I'll have backups in the fridge in case I inadvertently go over my points limit and am still hungry.

My San Fran / Oakland guests arrived one hour late at Tucson International Airport at 7 pm.
We had dinner at Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen and then home for more "updating" and me for bed at 9:30 pm. Today the gang took off for a hike at nearby Sabino Canyon. Lots of water is still flowing in the washes and an active (often dry) waterfall is in its grandeur. I will join the boys in the afternoon at our Community Pool and then a nice outdoor dinner of lamb chops, salad and sweet potatoes.

Hmmm...Nell, I don't use coffee. (Sounds pretty awful.) Our definition of Cowboy Stew is ground beef with what ever vegetables you have at the time to add, so your vegetables will get used and not thrown out. I use beef broth with it.

Yes, NanaSue I was remiss in not congratulating you on your new computer!

Dennis, enjoy all the company.

Ruth, I have way more than 10 pounds to lose and I am working on it. Yesterday I walked a lot and today my hips hurt.

I plan to go to a really neat nursery today with a friend to look for ground cover for the front beds. The yaupon holly roots have become so that not much else will grow there. We had begonias one year that were glorious. Then daisies. Now down to ground cover. The only answer is to remove the wall and bring it out further and I can't do it... dh does not have time or energy for it. Our front yard is on an incline. We are on the highest point in the neighborhood.

Sue, you seem busy. The singing is nice.

I am slowly getting ready for my first craft show.

Cowboy stew is beef stew with coffee as part of the cooking liquid. Cowboys traditionally drink a LOT of coffee and don't waste a drop. Since they can't ice it, they cook with it.

I'm off to see the retina specialist in a couple of hours.

Linda: Question: What is cowboy stew? Do you stew old cowboys?

Sue: the birthday day sounded like a nice family affair.

Walked with four ladies from WW today, our usual 3 mile loop around the park and lake. Always nice to catch up on the news; makes the time and walk go faster.

This morning after PT I went light shopping. Found some (more expensive than I wanted to pay) lights for the vanity. I am trying to get these workmen to answer their emails and texts, but they are soooo busy. If I'm lucky I'll have this thing installed by the summer solstice.

My Flamenco Dancer amaryllis is in bloom, but she is a tall stalk that just keeps growing in the light. I am wondering if I change the window where I get less morning sunlight could I stunt the growth of future stalks/blooms?

Going to try to catch up here a bit. Between hubby's birthday, a busy start to my week and continuing sleep problems leaving me napping too much in the evenings, I have hardly spent any time on SP in the past several days. Thankfully I think the sleep problem has righted itself - got a good night's sleep last night even though I did do some napping during the evening. I'm finally feeling refreshed.

Seattle Sue - Congrats on the new computer. Hope that the problems are soon resolved. I know I'd be a bit lost without mine simply because of the documents that I have on it for my Drifters group and also book club. For me, laptop is the way to go. I can take it anywhere in the house and often watch TV on it in the evenings since I don't care for hubby's choice of evening programs,

Nell - Glad that the mole removal went well. I sure wouldn't have a problem with scars on my midriff either since that not an area that I want to expose at my age. I don't think I'd have a problem removing my own stitches.

Linda - Hope that you are regaining your energy after your episode. I too find that my weight seems to jump when I consume too much sodium and I rarely add salt to anything, We mostly cook with spice/herb blends that have no salt so the main culprit is usually eating out. Of course my recent stretch of eating out (pancakes, dinner) and birthday cake ++ has resulted in a jump on the scales which is slowly disappearing again now that I'm more on track.

Ruth - Our washer and dryer both "sing a little tune" when they finish their cycles or when they are turned off. It's far more pleasant than a loud buzzer or bell which used to be on many models. Like you I'd like to drop about 10 pounds but I don't garden so will have to work on diet and exercise to try to remove it.

Dennis - You certainly are keeping busy with your company!

We had a great family day on Sunday but I should have figured that a sugar bush on a lovely Sunday morning when the sap was running would be a VERY busy place! Our son arrived first and let us know that there'd be about a one hour wait but when our daughter, son-in-law and grandson arrived they decided that was okay. The pancakes were good. I learned my lesson when hubby and I were there a few years ago and ordered the three small pancakes because their regular pancakes are the size of the plate! Last time I ordered three and couldn't make it through two. Our son managed to polish off three but he's a triathlete and constantly burning off lots of calories! We did the wagon ride afterwards - another wait but only about 30 minutes and finally returned to the house. We did go out for dinner around five and of course had to return home for birthday cake. Fortunately hubby sent much of the birthday cake home with our kids. i did make hot cross buns late last week so we could have them as a snack between breakfast and dinner but I totally forgot about them. I'm trying not to eat them - white flour and sugar don't work well with weight loss for me.

Our group got out to sing on Monday and practice for next month. Unfortunately our nice warmer temps from Sunday have gone down a bit and north winds have returned but with all the sun we're having, the snow is slowly melting. Given the amount of snow on the ground, slow melting is better. Today is a quiet day and I'm ready for it.

Take care every one!

I agree, Nell, sometimes it's just easier to cook for 4 rather than 1-2. Sweet move to cook for family.

Ruth-your dishes sound yummy. It's great they freeze well.

Glad you guys are staying on stop of the A-Fib. A friend's husband has it and he had to give up regular coffee. Not a happy camper.

Nell, I agree with Dennis. Not sure I could remove stitches.

Dennis, my type of A-Fib is paroxysmal. I can definitely feel it. It feels like a heart attack. The first time I had it, I went to the ER. Then a trip to cardiologist. Now I know what to do when I have it. Mainly wait it out and take a Toprol. If it gets over 135 BPM, I am supposed to go to ER, it does not. If it lasts over 12 hours, I am supposed to go to the ER, it is usually 3 to 5 hours. I have to take Eliquis every day to prevent blood clots.

Ruth, the things I make with lots of leftovers, hmmm. Usually soups. Cowboy stew, chicken soup, etc. I don't make many fancy dishes. My cooking is simple, quick, and no recipes.

Nice brother, Sue!

I make 4 servings of dinner every night, one each for me and DH, two leftover for DS#1 who doesn't cook. It's easier to make 4 servings than 2, and not that much more expensive.

Isn't it just great that we Over 60's are now comfortable with our bodies that have gotten us all this way into life? I could stand mine being about 10 pounds thinner, but I know that will not happen until I am in the garden full time. I lose track of time in my garden, go, do, go, do and unless the sun is going down I have no idea what time it is. I use so few calories when I am sitting at my computer during the winter months.

Today I had a group of ladies over for ajiaco, a Colombia chicken, potato, corn chowder. Someone brought, bread, another salad, and another fruit for dessert.. And the two who were not asked to bring anything came with bottles of wine! Now I have to have another get-together to use the wine....don't want that gathering dust in my wine corral.

When I mentioned to my niece (who lived with me in Colombia for a year) that I was making ajiaco, she said "Yum." So I made extra so that she and her mother (my sister) could have some with me tomorrow when they come to the farmhouse. Ajiaco is not a dish that you can make for one person or even three. Usually there is enough for 12 to 15 persons. So if they are not hearty eaters tomorrow, I will leave one dish for me and freeze the rest.

What specialty dish do you make that you always have leftovers?

Linda, I do not sense when I have an a-fib event. I had one last year during a period when I was wearing a heart monitor. The event lasted about 2 hours, per the report. Not sure if that is good that I never sense an event ...... or not.

Sue, hope your computer gets better.

Ruth, yes, good luck with your DIL

Sue, that would be a tough problem to diagnose. You need a monitor to see what's going on. Lenova is a big brand, they should replace it under warranty.

Linda-my goodness, I'm glad you're ok. Definitely take it easy today.

Ruth-Hope all goes well with your DIL.

Dennis-Ruth is right; it sounds like you're running a BnB. LOL One of the "perks" of living in a sunny location during the winter.

Nell-Glad the surgery went well. I know what you mean about scarring; we don't care like we used to. In answer to your question, my computer is from Lenovo which normally has a good rep.

Speaking of which...Well, no new computer. My brother brought it over and set it up but it just wasn't communicating to the monitor. My brother took it home and will troubleshoot after he gets home from work. Good news is he thinks he knows what the problem is but he needs to get into the guts. So close. My brother is really going beyond the call of duty. He bought the computer for me as he knows it would be a long time before I could save up, especially with my move coming up this year. In fact, we joked once it was a race whether the old computer could keep running long enough. He's pretty special.

Glad all is well, Nell.

I have an old Dell and we get it updated. Eventually will have to get a new one, I am sure.

Yesterday I had an a-fib episode. After the episode, which lasts a few hours, I am knocked out. Still a bit fatigued today.

Other than that, I am getting ready for my first craft show on April 27. We are going to Corpus Christi before that in April... which is good, we need a bit of a break, even if it is for a class that dh is attending.

The skin surgery went well yesterday, quicker than I thought. It's on my abdomen, so I don't care about scarring. At my age no one will ever see my midriff again. I'll take my own stitches out in a week. As long as I can see it without a mirror, and use my right hand, I can take them out.

Hello all:

NanaSue: I am as confused as you when someone asks me what programs my computer runs. That is stuff that is important to tech savvy persons; all I want my computer to do is start up and get me through my chores.

Nell: Hope everything went well at the doctor's office and that the removal has not left a gaping hole in your complexion.

Dennis: It sound like you are running a family B n B, one guest leaves, another arrives.

Today my DIL left for Colombia where she is having surgery on tumors found in her gall bladder last month when she was there to have gall stone/bladder removed. Surgery was delayed so that an oncologist could be present. I am wishing that all goes well.

A week of hosting a friend is coming to an end. I will drop my golf buddy off at the airport around 11 am for his flight back to Baltimore. Then my son, his partner and their son arrive on Wednesday for a five day visit. Should be fun.

Sue, AMD makes the chip, I don't think they assemble computers. Is it a laptop or a desktop? You'll have Windows 10, which means you can have 2 monitors at the same time. I LOVE that!

Good luck, Nell. Thinking good thoughts for you.

Ruth-nice pic of you and Yuli! A musical washer! I love it! Have a good day in Reading.

The new computer is a PC, made by AMD, and it's more up-to-date, meaning faster, than my 9 year old system. That's all I know. LOL

Saturday was productive. My new washer was delivered in the morning. (It plays a melody when all the cycles are finished!) I did chores In the afternoon then headed over to a pot luck in the evening. Rice dish was exceptional with pistachios, apricots, and assorted veggies mixed into the brown rice.

Today after fellowship and lunch I spent four hours outside spring cleaning a portion of my garden. There are four trashcans of leaves and lawn debris on the curbs as well as five bound piles of limbs and sticks. Hyacinths and daffodils are beginning to open this week.

Tomorrow it's off to Reading for my annual visit with my tax preparation person, then lunch with my sister and niece(s).. Have a great week.

(That is I and my daughter-in-law Yuli in the new photo)

Dennis-Enjoy your day with your friend.

RetiredSue-Your song selections sound like a great program. Hope you get some decent sleep soon.

Linda-I don't use salt in my cooking, spices instead. Don't miss it at all. That being said, when I splurge on chips, rarely, I see it in water gain.

Good luck with the appointment, Nell. Smart move to get groceries and anything else done today.

Apartment cleaning today as tomorrow I'm getting a new computer!

Church day for us too.

Sue, sounds like fun!

Ate out yesterday and it must have been loaded with salt, but it was very good! Eating out again today with friends. It will take a few days to get all the sodium out of my system! Is anyone else salt sensitive? When I cook, which is almost every day, I use salt, but very little.

Linda - Do you mean what kind of music do we sing? Our group does a wide variety of "old" favourites, some songs from musicals and also some sacred music (or hymns). Our program is usually divided into three parts - our musicals and favourites, a sing along/band section (we have a couple of guitars, spoons and a tambourine) and the sacred music. We try to fit the music with the season or kind of occasion - like several Irish pieces this month and love songs (or songs about heart) in February. Next month we'll do a couple of pieces from Pyjama Game and a couple from The Music Man. Personally I'm strictly a melody gal - can't harmonize worth beans! I hope that answers your question.

Nell - It sounds like theirs some redecorating in your future. Enjoy the end result - if not the process!

Rain sounds preferable to what was falling out of our skies yesterday - but fortunately nothing stuck - at least for long. Today is a little more winter like temperature wise - not that I've been out - but at least we have bright sunshine. The squirrels and birds (chickadees, junkos, cardinals mainly) are around but there's certainly not a butterfly to be found and won't be for some time. I've had so little sleep the past couple of nights - spent a part of last night up reading after not being able to get to sleep - that I'm mostly vegging and doing just what I have to do. Hoping I can summon enough energy here shortly to get some clean sheets on the bed! Hubby is into watching March Madness so it's been a constant companion the past couple of days.
I'm hoping tomorrow's forecast holds true - +6 (low 40s) and sunny as we're meeting our family at a sugar bush just south of town mid morning for pancakes and could take in a wagon ride should we wish to afterwards. Their "pancake house" is definitely "no frills" but that's okay - it's hubby's birthday and we'll have some time together which is what is important.

Ruth-I'm sure your friend appreciated the flowers and the effort you made to see her. I agree about the rush hour. I avoid it even as a bus rider.

Val-Love the poster!

Dennis-That's quite a change from Michigan to Tuscon. But I get it--in the 70's I moved from Denver to Phoenix.

Nothing planned for today other than usual computer plus some reading.

I avoid rush hour as much as possible. We even have it here in the suburbs of Austin. My town blends in with Austin, you cannot really tell the difference.

Another beauty of a day, but tomorrow rain is predicted.

Edwards, your picture made me laugh.

I have been more active and it is paying off.

Not much of a rush hour here in Tucson..................... well, at least when compared to what I had to put up with in SE Michigan/Detroit area.

Late checking in, as usual. After bowling this morning I got a text message that my friend had been moved from a Rehab center in the eastern part of the county to one nearby. So I headed over to the local produce junction to pick up some flowers for her. Instead of cut flowers I purchased a cyclamen that had about 20 blooms. I I was taken in by the pocketbook (calceolus) plants and just had to have one for my windowsill.

Upon arriving at the rehab center my friend was just being wheeled out for x-rays and MRI's, so while she was away I went to the cafeteria to eat. She didn't get back for two hours. By then it was time to leave or face the rush hour traffic (something we seniors have little patience for).

Did not accomplish much on my list today. Well, there's always tomorrow.
