I hope you finished your projects and that your daughter is better. I just found this now- sorry- or I would have responded sooner.

Another thing you might try is to carve out 3 hour chunks each day that are *just* for working on your projects. Pick a time of day where you concentrate well anyway, and when you can shut off all other distractions (as much as possible). It's amazing what you can get done in a smaller chunk of uninterrupted and focussed time.

With a sick daughter (hopefully she's getting better?), this can be a little more complicated, but I suspect she sleeps a fair bit, often for at least an hour. I would jump on those quiet times to dive into your work.

Also, don't forget that people without a family are also mostly struggling to get everything done. The difference is that they are more able to shut out the world in order to get it done. And while they have fewer outside demands, they also have less structure in their life. Pounce on your advantage, which is the structure that's forced on you by family demands.

Have you ever heard of FlyLady.com? It's kindof an organizational system for housework & life in general. Her motto is that "you can do anything for 15 minutes". She has you do small things each day, and you build up to having routines. She stresses not worrying about being "perfect", just doing what you can. Check it out!

I don't have traditional finals in my grad school program...instead we are graded on final projects which are due in every class...several in some classes. I have an informal presentation and a formal presentation due in one of my classes. I am working on a video for my informal and the formal is a group project which is due in 3 weeks and I am the only one who has done any research.I have 3 papers due in another class. And only one paper due in my third class. My daughter has been sick the last 6 weeks and I have kept up with everything...accept these final projects which are looming! Ugh, I don't know how I am going to do it all. Does anyone with a family have some organizational strategies?
