FitJedi, thanks for the link!

I've already been kind of working that way, but I like the idea of it being a "thing." Also, I think the 25 minute rule is much more sustainable that the longer periods I've been doing. I'm going to try the Pomodoro method this week. It can't hurt!

I "negotiate" a lot and rotate tasks too, although time to exercise and time to work on the dissertation are scheduled on my calendar. That doesn't stop me from interrupting myself, but at least I'm trying to commit to the time for these tasks.

You might try the Pomodoro Technique ( www.pomodorotechnique.com/ ) which means you commit to uninterrupted time in short bursts to do something. Usually 25 minutes, 5 minute break, then another 25 minutes of work, etc.

Somehow, telling myself I only have to write for 25 minutes (or run for 25 minutes) helps me get through tasks that I don't really want to do right now.

I am convinced that the only way I ever get anything done is through rotating procrastination. When I can't stand cleaning house, I write. When I can't stand writing, I read. When I can't stand reading, I do grading. When I can't stand grading, I clean the house.

Somehow it all seems to balance out with a minimum of all-nighters.

I've definitely been known to stay at the gym a little longer when I don't want to do school work. Being on SP can also be a way to procrastinate since I end up browsing the internet instead of working.

When I have a lot of work to do, I make sure I wake up a little earlier to exercise. I also *try* to limit my time online, even on SP, to get stuff done.

I'm studying for my comps right now, and I am constantly letting myself off the hook from a few minutes of reading so I can track food or go to the gym.

Luckily, I've also realized that the discipline of the food and fitness tracking is helping me to focus when I do sit down to read.

Still, I'm starting to think losing weight will be easier than passing exams which I NEVER would have said in the past!

I am the COMPLETE opposite! I constantly use schoolwork to put off exercise. I need to make a schedule and stick to it, NOW! I wish I had your problem! Or that we could share a little bit! ;-)

I took my dog for an extra long walk tonight because I didn't want to work on my paper that is due Thursday.

Technically, I did this last night too.

Probably not the best plan academically, but does anyone else use exercise to procrastinate school work? (or vice versa)
