Hey there! I'm getting my MA in journalism, and the best place that I can send you is to the SPJ.org website. If you have questions, you can call them, but they also have great ethics guidelines (like when and where to film) that are good to know.

As for interviewing people, I am a bit shy, which is hard because I have had to interview a lot of people so far for my thesis. Generally what I do is treat it more like a conversation than an interview... write down the "WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN WHY" questions, and then just go from there!

Good luck!

It is not about perfection, it's about progress.

Hey there peoples!

I really want to do some great work around making documentaries and such (no film classes around here unfortunately, and broke as it is), but I'm really wondering about the concept of interviewing people and permission to do filming in public places and whatnot.

I'm looking up the latter stuff and have found a few things (tons of "for dummies" books i've read through the past month), but as far as interviewing, like questions to ask and such, i'm a bit stuck. granted, i'm still researching places i'd go and possible people to interview, but i really have no help. i'm also not the most sociable person and i'm trying to get better at that, just haven't had much practice.

is there some text you guys read that gave good pointers, or some tips of the trade you could pass on? it'd be very helpful because nobody i know has tried anything like this, and i'm practically out on a limb. sorry it sounds so vague, i had this worded better a couple of weeks ago but my computer kicked the bucket before i could post it.
