I am just in my first year right now, and already it is so hard to just make the right choices, cook healthy and find time to exercise. I have done pretty good so far this semester, but with mid terms coming up, I feel like I am going to lose the battle :-( . I don't even want to think ahead to next year when I have to start on my dissertation and also take some Comps... Good luck to all of us :-)

I am not sure if I am in the last year or not, but dissertating has definitely led to weight gain in the last year for me - lots and lots of sitting and stressing will do that! I am starting to reverse this with Sparkpeople....

I hear you.

I have been 'in the last year' of my dissertation for about 13 months now. (right now I expect to graduate in October) and all of the sitting in front of a computer has really started to take it's toll on my health.

I have decided that I have three months until I defend (or so) and I can afford the 30 minutes a day it takes to exercise. I may even survive it.

We're in this together,
Melissa

Ditto. I am finishing up too. And I noticed the old conditioned guilt working its magic... Push through it. Almost done!

I just graduated last month and I definitely found it hard to stay active. My brain kept telling me (and my advisor) that if I had time to exercise that I could have used that time for my dissertation. The only thing that I can say is that I felt much better if I stayed active. You can do it!

Yeah so about 20 pounds snuck up on me in the past 10 or so months (in this the supposed last year of the Phd...not going to happen). Have you found dissertation induced sitting (even if most of that sitting is slacking off) has brought you to this site?

I'm in the mood to blame my PhD for everything wrong at the moment. A motivation to finish?
