My motivation today is coming from some wise words from a friend in another support group:
"All you have to do is the next right thing. Not a week or month or lifetime of right things, just the next one. That is true for your health, that is true for your job, that is true for dealing with other people. Just do the next right thing, one day, one moment at a time."
The next right thing for me is to make a healthy lunch!

I can soooooo relate to this. I'm halfway through my 16-month grad program. This is the most reading intensive course yet and I feel like I'm starting to lose it. So I just keep telling myself "You can't do everything. Just do the best you can." I find that when I am TOO hard on myself I just want to say screw it and give up. I'm so glad we have Spark to help us stay motivated! Every day is a new day ;)

I find my daily dose of motivation in music. I've got a few inspirational songs on my iPod, and I make sure to listen to one (or a few!) of them each morning before my work out.

The one I find the most inspirational is "Faith of the Heart" by Russel Watson -- and I think it can apply to anything, from weight loss to the never-ending process that is the PhD. ... Some of the lyrics:

It's been a long road, getting from there to here
It's been a long time, but my time is finally near
I can feel the change in the wind right now
Nothing's in my way
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No they're gonna hold me down

Cuz I've got faith of the hear
Going where my heart will take me
I've got faith to believe I can do anything
I've got strength of the soul
No one is gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star
I've got faith, faith of the heart

It's been a long night
Trying to find my way
And through the darkness
Now I finally have my day
I will see my dream come alive at least
I will touch the sky
And they're not gonna hold me down no more
No, they're not gonna change my mind

"For everyone who's ever been counted out, but refused to be knocked out, and for everyone who works hard and never gives up, this one's for you." Hillary Rodham Clinton

Today my obstacle is twofold: I did not lose any weight this weigh-in and that makes me want to say screw it, and eat whatever I want. This compounded by plans tonight to have a post-Passover carbo load with some friends. WARNING!
I know the way to head of temptation is to look at the menu and plan in advance. But I'm not feeling motivated to actually do what's best for my health and weight loss goals. Any suggestions?

One of my favorite quotes is "People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing--that's why we recommend it daily."~ Zig Ziglar. Thank you Spark People E-mail!

So I thougth I'd introduce a topic for keeping motivated. I mean motivation for anything: from exercise to research papers to cleaning the kitchen. What is standing in the way of your motivation and what can you do to get motivated TODAY?

For me today: My obstacle is how much I have to get done: research, cleaning the house, e-mail etc. I'm overwhelmed by it all.

What am I going to do to keep motivated: I'm going to put on some killer tunes, and make a plan. 1. Aerobic video 2. Re-organize the closet 3. Prep Monday's presentation. And so on.

So what will you do to stay motivated TODAY?
