Planning works for me, too. It is really hard when you don't have a 3-D support network. We are here for you, always. But I know it isn't quite the same.

Planning sounds like a great idea.. I definitely need to do more of that.

Unfortunately I don't have much of anyone to recruit in the weight-loss area in my program. I'm a commuter student, and the majority of my classmates live around the area of my school.

I've thought about going to weight watchers meetings, but don't have the money for it. I've also tried to "recruit" my husband.. but he works late a lot, and therefore sees it necessary to give into fast food instead of healthier options.

I like the planning advance and scheduling in ideas though.. definitely going to have to try that, AND stick to it/keep myself accountable.

I think a BIG part of my problem is allowing my lack of supporters to get me down. It really shouldn't.

I agree about planning in advance. That is the only way I could do it without failing.
Besides my grad school courses and working 40 hours a week, I have a 3 hour daily commute to work and a family to take care of.
I actually fill out a schedule of all my activities, so I am sure to get my workouts in. It's the only way I can do it, or I wouldn't be able to.

Plan, plan, plan ahead! I struggle with balancing school and work and health every week. It's hard - even though class schedules are generally set and routine, I think that our schedules for the rest of the week tend to change a lot as graduate students. It's hard (for me, at least) to have to constantly think about planning meals, packing lunch, eating dinner at a reasonable hour, hitting the gym at the (very rare) non-peak times...and trying to be a good sociable grad student and make an occasional appearance at a happy hour or brown bag without binging on the snacks! So..you are NOT alone!

The best weeks I have are when I cook food over the weekend and pack up leftovers for the week. It doesn't even have to be a lot of food - maybe enough for 3 dinners out of 5, so that those days when I get home late and am starving, I can get some food, fast (as opposed to fast food...). I'll make a big pot of rice and portion it out into tupperware, and stir-fry some veggies to go along with it, or maybe thaw and cook some frozen chicken breasts for the week.

Do you have any friends in your program you can recruit to help keep you on track? Even someone you can just vent to when you're having a stressful week helps a lot!

Sooo... does anyone else have difficulty managing school and trying to lose weight/eat better/work out?

I'm feeling overwhelmed, and school always wins over the weight loss stuff. Any advice?
