I haven't appliqued the picture on yet, but it was done enough to use.

My next project is a St. Patrick's Day wallhanging that can also serve at Christmas time since it will be green and white. Perhaps I can have pin-on appliques to make it "correct" for the season. I hope to post a picture BEFORE St. Patrick's Day, so I had better get busy. But I was using bits and pieces of fabrics and will have to use a different white for the border. I am sure it won't be noticeable when the quilt is done. I let things like that slow me down way too often, which is why I have so many UFOs! emoticon

Nothing like being under pressure to meet a timeline...to serve as incentive. I just had a computer tech come...and knowing he was to be here at 1 pm had me working at clearing my desk, vacuuming, dusting, etc all morning. He was here about 5 min and found the problem, fixed it. For me, I have LOTS accomplished..just because he was coming. $$$ well spent in my opinion!! emoticon

Thanks! But procrastination did me in yet again. That and perfectionism. HOWEVER, I committed to finishing it by Wednesday when my stitch group meets at my house again, so if I want to hold my head up without shame, I had better get it done! It DOES help that I now have an antenna for my TV, so I can watch or listen while I work. But first, I have to clear an area so I can actually get the quilting done!

I had a notification about this thread in my Spark mail, but I see it's pretty ancient. I haven't been on Spark much lately and it seems like I'm not alone in that. Anyway, I AM working on something: a Valentine wall hanging. If I get busy, it can be done by Sunday. So I guess I had better sign off and get busy!

I started sewing EPP Hexagons last winter. I started out with large 1.5" hexagons in the hopes of actually finishing a quilt.

Every time I think I am going to get to start cutting fabric for a quilt for my own bed, I end up making something for one of my kids or niece, nephew etc. I finished 2 baby quilts this summer and need to go shopping for fabric to make my oldest nephew a quilt for his Graduation from High School in June. I haven't seen him for almost 5 years as they moved and haven't been back to visit and we have not traveled that way either. I plan to hand deliver his quilt to him. I cannot wait!!

Yes! I did find the manual...and also the knee lever for the foot...so Ian now has the entire machine, manual etc. I am glad to have her take it. She is, however, even more of a beginner than I realized...still, it just felt right for her to have it.

guess I need to look up TARDIS quilts and Jack's Chain. Don't recall ever hearing of either. Wishing you success!

Any luck finding the book in the past two months? You might be able to find online. I need to do that for a hand-cranked Singer I have.

I dug out my 25-year-old IF I,a Jack's Chain I have been wanting to finish for years. It has to be sewn in 3-inch sections because it is all triangles, squares, and hexagons. I am machine sewing it for durability, since I plan on itt a LOT! But I need to switch gears for a few weeks to work on graduation gifts. I am HOPING to make TARDIS quilts for a granddaughter and a young friend who are fans of "Doctor Who." I have a pattern but am having a hard time deciding on fabric.

I am hunting for the manual to my old sewing machine which I have loaned to a friend. She wants to "get back into sewing" though the more she says, the greater my doubts that she knows what she is doing. LOL She WANTS to, though, so that is half the battle. Cannot figure out WHAT I have done with that book.

I am working on figuring out what I had planned on two quilts that I started a few years ago. One is part way finished and the other I am figuring out the colors and fabrics today.

Got a short walk in. Very tired last few months. Kind of breathless but not asthmatic. Maybe I am low on iron again. Any way got a phone call into my Doc to see what he thinks. I am fighting some allergies though and that could be impounding it some.

I finally finished a UFO from c. 2002! I couldn't find the binding fabric I'd planned to use and may not have set it aside, so I turned the back toward the front for a pretend binding. I didn't think I"d like it, but I do! Now to make a label so it's REALLY finished!

I often don't get any sewing done despite the fact that I have "tons of time." I don't know WHERE this week has gone, but I haven't gotten nearly as much done as I'd hoped. At least I put away all my UFOs so that I can get them out one at a time and not be knocking things off the tables or sewing machine cabinet. Maybe tomorrow? It will still be really cold, and we might be snowed in. No ice, thank goodness!

Good for you, Janet!

We have been iced in for several days....and each day I tell myself I am going to get busy on all the sewing stuff waiting for me...and yet another day goes by. Soon...I hope...I will break that mental barrier.

I dug out an old UFO that was hand-quilted in the pieced area but had a busy border which wouldn't show hand-quilting, so I did free-motion feathers on the border. Now I can't find the binding fabric I'd [thought I'd] set aside. So I am turning the backing to the front and "binding" it that way. I figure when I'm through, the binding fabric will show up!

Where I am? Middle Tennessee. Only barely a dusting of snow a couple of times this year so far. We never get much anyway...more ice on occasion, but little of that this year, as well...so far.

I'm not sure where you live, but the snowy days here in Michigan make for perfect "sewing weather!" We had another 2 inches last night, but I am still going to try to get to our stitch group meeting just three miles down the road. I have the 2" (finished) pieced border sewn on and now want to get some opinions on if another border or two are needed. Not sure how big I want this to be, but it looks fine now. Decisions, decisions! That's why I have so many UFOs.

Good for you, Janet. I have enjoyed stars but am with you in the shape preference. My first quilt made from a magazine pattern had stars in it. Now..years later, have the materials to repeat that same quilt but in totally different color scheme...and will applique a heart where the original has a moon. Of course, who knows when I will get to that...I have a number of things already going that I really do want to finish. No more classes for me till I get back on track.

Jolette, Janet is right, not hard to learn FB, but it surely is a time waster! I enjoy the association with friends from all over the world and all over North America so I check in frequently.Friends from South Africa to China and Australia...would never be able to keep up with them any other way.

Facebook isn't too hard, once you get into it. It takes big chunks of time, though. So, together with Spark, it's a wonder I get anything sewn! Today I am planning to work on the blocks from our guild's mystery project. I have sixteen of twenty-four finished and have already seen the layout. I am going to tweak it a bit, but I really like it. Anything with stars in the design is a winner in my book! As long as the stars have points of the same length, that is! I am not a fan of the modern look.

LOL.Janet! We purchased a new car last summer. The guy sat in it and described a bunch of stuff for ages..when he finally stopped, I told him we had NO idea what he was talking about. Neither of us have smart phones, don't know a thing about Blue Tooth...etc. etc. etc. I don't think he believed me until I showed him my phone (I call it my dinosaur phone..the technology has changes so fast...but I am not giving it up till it's absolute last gasp!") When we purchased iPads last June, the folks at T-Moblie had never even seen a phone like mine..and I got it from T-Mobile! lol

Indeed! I feel like such a techno-idiot and am proud enough to have a non-smart phone that texts and that I just learned how to get pictures out of. A smart phone is beyond my capabilities, I fear, but I am one of the few of my contemporaries (I'm 67 but hang out with "gals" in their fifties emoticon ) who doesn't have either a smart phone or an iPad. Or both. However, I am determined to master what I DO have, which includes a Bermette Sublime featuring both fancy sewing stitches AND embroidery capability. That's enough tech for me for now! Hope you had a good weekend!

I trimmed my mystery quilt and cut the vertical borders, but then my son was available for tech support for my computer, my camera, my phone, and my new MP3 player; so I took a break and learned some new things which I HOPE to retain! Back to sewing after dinner.

I am actually working on a newer UFO, so I thought I'd continue this thread. I usually only comment with my daily spin, but it's time to be more active elsewhere. I am working on the 2013 quilt guild challenge: a basket block as it turns out that can also be put on its side as a fish block! I'll do baskets, since I chose Aunt Grace fabrics for it. It's only 13 7" blocks, so it should go together fairly quickly and be quilted fairly quickly. We have a UFO challenge in our guild: if you list 5 UFO's at the start of the year and finish all 5, you are in a drawing for prizes. They used to be rather minor but have gotten a bit more substantial (the last top prize was a layer cake!), so we are all more motivated. Hope all of you are getting the new year off to a good quilting start!

Regarding posting photos, there IS a way/place to do so. When you click on the TEAM page, there is a place on the right of your screen if you scroll down a little that says PHOTOS...and under it, "see all" and "add photo". I haven't tried it yet, but that should do it. I would prefer a way to do it as done on FaceBook..right in your post.

There should be a place to post pictures, but I haven't checked since they changed the team page format.

I am finally getting back to normal after two weeks of battling a bad cold, so I need to get my Block of the Month done before my quilt guild meeting. I am HOPING to get my sewing machine back from the machine hospital SOON, because I am so used to it. My backup is a Featherweight, but I am having a hard time getting it to sew right. Sigh.

But with your expertise...and perhaps your fabrics, too...she (and you) produced a very special gift and in record time. That is impressive and generous. AND, most folks have NO idea what is involved in making a quilt of any size...the cost, the time, the work. You and your DD gave a gift of love.

Wow, Jolette! That was a speedy project!

I got the inner border on the sample quilt (made for stencil class) stenciled and quilted with an ivy design. Ran out of light to try to do the last, large border. I have been working on cleaning and sorting all my sewing stuff (and the other accumulations in the way!)..so that occupied some of the time I would have perhaps spent sewing.

emoticon We did it today, my daughter decided to make a quilt for a baby shower today and we got it done. Sewed it this morning, add sashing, used minky for the backing and tied it, and finished it in 3 hrs. Whew, usually I hope to have a little more time to decide on something to make.

When I try buying it THIS time, if it smells weird I will know it probably won't "air out." I am hoping that 20 years makes a big difference in manufacturing processes!

Thank you! There are two layers of insulbrite in the middle,. Between the main fabric and heat resistant lining. Thankfully mine didn't smell! That would be miserable!

Very nice iron caddy! I have some fabric perfect for it. Now to get the "silver" fabric. I had a lot of it once, but it smelled so bad I had to get rid of it. I do have some InsulBrite. I wonder if that would work?

I finished Step 1 for my mystery quilt, and today I plan to start making the heart-shaped coasters/mug rugs that I saw on Facebook. OR, I might make a 3-hour jacket. The pattern cost $3.95, so you KNOW how old it is! I think I got it around 1990. Anyway, I am needing some variety since my sweatshirts and sweaters are getting LOTS of use this winter!

The iron caddies sound like a good project. And doing exercise first sounds like a great idea!

Today I will be working on finishing three iron caddies. One for me, one for mum, and one for a friend! All that is left is the binding, handles and buttons but each caddy has eight corners that are odd angles so I have put it off for about a week!

Before I get lost in my projects though, I am going to take myself to the gym to do 30 minutes on the treadmill and then enjoy the pool/hot tub/sauna for a bit!

If it is to be, it is up to me!

I wish I could get my UFOs far enough along to NEED binding! emoticon

I cut out all the strips/squares/rectangles for our quilt guild's mystery quilt yesterday and the day before, and today I may do the official Step 1, which is "only" sewing together two kinds of strip sets. I plan to sew ONE set and then check my seam. Maybe I should only sew half a set and then check: less to rip out if need be!

Hope all of you are keeping warm if it's as cold where you are as it is here in Michigan!

Got my quilt sandwiches cut and almost ready to go. This morning I repaired an old blanket whose binding was coming off. Then I made the binding for another repair job...one of my first quilts..made by stitching around the car and truck designs on a sheet! I bordered/bound it with flannel..but I truly had NO idea what I was doing. This time, that old binding needs repair in one section of the top..so I am putting a new, correctly made and applied binding on the entire quilt. Piecing it this morning was a bit of an adventure though...got half the seams on top and half on the bottom...so had to make some corrections. It was one of those mornings. I am using a solid color flannel..can't tell the right sides.

I am binding, I am, binding, I am singing as I go. LOL It does take a long way to go to do the handwork around the king size quilt. hmm, may consider sewing the binding. Not really, I really enjoy the handwork and it looks so nice.

Bought fabric today to repair a old quilt I made when my boys were little..and I had no idea what I was doing. Had used Merrimiko sheets, used the wrong kind of batting, used a sheet for the back, stitched around the cars and trucks in the print on the sheet, and made a single fold very wide binding from flannel I already had. Looking at it now, I am amazed at the fact that I made TWO of these..hand stitching one! Now the one edge is badly frayed and damaged, so I plan to use the flannel as a border and put on an entirely NEW, properly applied binding. This quilt will go on to my youngest grandson. I also purchased muslin to use in the practice squares for the next class I am taking (next week)...I bought plenty so I have it ready for the following classes.

Joyce, I hope you will post pictures!

Today I worked on a" life's a beach" landscape wall hanging by Cynthia England. Took a workshop with her this summer. It is not like anything I have ever done before. One I get going I enjoy the process, but it takes a few minutes to get in the zone so I had been putting it off until I was on vacation. Vacation is here and I am telling myself to finish this before starting any new projects! I can't wait to see the finished product! It will be a late gift to my mum.

Spider-Man finished and gifted. Finally finished another quilt that has been partially done for ages. Got borders on, quilted it and did the bindings, finishing the handwork last night. Just needs the label..and I JUST took some photos.

The log carrier sounds like a WORK project..you should check the prices on ready made ones now while so much stuff is on sale...you might get a deal on a good sturdy one and then could devote your sewing to other things...just a thought. I am married to my log carrier...and he does make a mess, but won't use the canvas one.

Friend gave me a ride home from work yesterday...was talking about how carrying the logs to the wood stove leave such a messy trail of bark and dirt.....

Googled that and found what she needs is called a "log carrier"

Put that into Pinterest.....found a great pattern.... emoticon This is doable!

I have spent much of today working on the quilting of the Spiderman quilt and I think I can see the end in sight. Whew..tired of this project. My free motion quilting is a wild woman version of the job...hope a precise quilter never examines this project! lol Am able to work with the walking foot on the borders..so much easier than what I have been doing..tracing the design on the panel...spider web and the web design on the costume. Next post will, I hope, say this one is DONE. OK..break over..back to work.

My very FIRST sewing project as an adult.. a Christmas Tree Skirt. It's WAY harder than anybody can know when not a quilter! :) Matching up those blocks and cutting so precisely?? This is WAY fun but definitely MUCH harder than I thought!! I'm hanging in there, though! I am enjoying it! My seam ripper is my friend since TWICE now I've not sewn right sides together (yes, I actually made THAT mistake, not once, but TWICE). I'm enjoying my Friday off, though, and I'm so happy to be a part of this very talented group of ladies!!!

LOL...they talked me into quilting my class quilt with red thread (which at the time seemed loud and strange to me, but of course, it is fine!). Need brown for one project and navy for the other that are currently ongoing...but still need the red to finish the binding on Monday..THEN can switch things out. The other issue is plugging and unplugging the machine..and down-on-hands-and-knees climb under the table job each time. Weather is promising to be awful on Tuesday..the day after my last class..so perhaps I will tackle this other stuff THEN. emoticon
