Saying Daisy's days were numbered was an understatement. She was in trouble last night when we got home..and things went down hill from there. We had to put my beloved Daisy down this morning. She is now buried with other pets and I have been washing her bedding and sorting other pet stuff so I can pass things along...some to my son's dogs, some to one friend and the rest to the Animal Shelter. I am grieving today even though I KNEW it was coming and knew it would be very hard. She is out of pain now. Hubby says no more pets. This will be the first time in my life that I can remember not having any pets..not even fish or turtles. I'll adjust. Daisy was dumped out here as a lanky adolescent about 14 yrs ago...and she has proven to be the most wonderful and loving pet anyone could ever want. She will be very much missed for sure.

The bending and stretching may not be fun, but it is good exercise for you.

We are attending a two day assembly this weekend. I always expect more steps than I actually get...we were parked WAY out and had to walk up the hill and steps to get to the assembly. We do it all again tomorrow. Today the weather was lovely..tomorrow it will NOT be lovely. Poor old Daisy dog will have to stay in..hope she can make it till we get back! She is already having a rough time of things...poor baby. Her days are numbered and I am going to miss her so much when the time comes.

Saturday
Got a good walk in yesterday with Kiwi. Still mostly maintaining 10,000 steps a day, sometimes able to go over that. Weather here is Spring at last. Won't stay of course, but enjoying the warm weather for now.

Tried another block of the "Color My World" quilt kit. Didn't do the star one correctly, and have undone the center of the star for now Way, way, way too many points converged in the center, and of course it does not lay flat. Frustrating. 16 points come together in the center. Wild. Not sure how I will figure it out. Direction are inadequate. I'll get there of course, but I am unhappy with the center, and ripped it back for now.

I got 7 big black bags of leaves blown, raked up, and bagged from the back privacy area Thursday morning. Probably at least nine more to complete the job. Next would be to pull up unwanted stuff that got such a good start under the cover of leaves and pine needles. Lots of little trees were removed as I tidied up the area. Bending, bending bending is not fun, but I'd love to get it sorted out and plant some begonias out there. They will grow and blossom bc it's mostly shade.

Today is unchartered. Not sure what I'll accomplish.

Sending hugs and good wishes.

All this modern technology that you must be a genius to understand and work! It is enough to drive you crazy...and these days there is so MUCH of it. TV, telephones, computer, plus appliances..yikes. Bad enough to have all this helpful stuff, but you also must PAY a FORTUNE for it! Can't win.

Oh, yes! A definite silver lining to get lunch out. Yummy!

So our Microwave was just replaced. Right? Yesterday the U-verse 2wire connector had fits. Took over an hour to straighten that out with the U-verse tech guys so the internet and TV would work again. Yep!! TV is for Joe.

Last night while trying so hard to get instructions from the tech guys, my phone kept blanking out. Today at the Apple store I learned my mike is dead in the phone. I can only hear folks on the speaker setting. That's not always the way to chat with folks. I was eligible for an upgrade, so got a new phone.

What's next, anyway??

My frustration level is not good at all today. The store got my new phone to pick up contacts and photos from the old phone through iCloud. Very grateful for that, but I cannot sync my calendar. So I suppose another trip to the Apple store lugging my Mac Desktop to see if they can get it to sync to iCloud. That would be a huge bonus. I'd love that.

Hope to get upstairs to the sewing room today.

I don't seem to be allergic to that pollen. So far, so good.

We had Comcast confusion today...all because Hubby wanted a tv guide. found out that the service switch made last Thurs. said we had 200 channels, BUT she didn't tell me we had to have their HD box AND pay monthly for using it. We finally got everything untangled and now DH is happy. I barely watch TV so this was all for him. Our trek into town to get the HD box DID take us to Red Lobster for a late lunch.. That was nice.

emoticon emoticon It is warm and sunny today. Arnie says he will take me out for an outing later. I have been housebound so much lately, I will enjoy getting out, even if to just look at the wheat. Maybe I will be able to see the deer that hang around, That would really be a treat.

Jean, we, too, are getting rain from the same system you are I think. emoticon It is pretty mild right now but will be getting down to freezing tonight. The daffodils are blooming and the weeping willow has baby leaves, the lilac has buds...things re waking up, indeed! emoticon My husband was working outside someplace and saw a HUGE puff of smoke...went dashing over to find the fire...but it turned out to be the cedar trees putting out pollen. This was an especially large tree. I remember the first time I saw that...and I did the same thing, dropped everything and ran to find the fire! I am happy Spring is nearly established. We still have weeks till the last frost date here, though. emoticon

Chilly, dreary, wet day here. Blooms are popping up all over which means Spring is trying her best to get here. I put Sydney, my stag horn fern, outside yesterday to take advantage of the humidity and rain. He has to come in again tonight though because we're dropping into the 30's once more.

No subbing assignments now until April 11th. So a long dry spell unless a teacher has an emergency. I'll try to keep an outfit picked out so I can be ready in a jiffy if needed. I can waste precious minutes bleary eyed in my closet trying to wake up and get ready. Planning ahead helps me tremendously.

No big plans for today. Church was lovely, breakfast was heated up biscuits and sausage gravy frozen last week. Now just relaxing.

Hug your loved ones today

Sounds like nice things happening for everyone.

I had my 3rd quilting class in the series yesterday...and the other two ladies didn't show so I basically had a private lesson. It was pleasant and mostly turned out to be practice of things I can already do. I did get an unexpected lesson about my Bernina when the oil light went on (didn't know there WAS an oil light) and one of the ladies also has same model and showed me how to access and oil the mechanism.

I have been wanting to work on different things, but felt I really had to focus on things with deadlines...the Obamacare and Taxes. I had gotten everything to the point where I could go no further without help. Spent the morning on Healthcare...we tried to just open a new account for there seemed to be serious troubles with the first account...and 2nd effort just ran me in circles. I finally called them and what a great experience it turned out to be. Naomi helped us register, went through the finances and then helped us select a plan. I was right that something had gone wrong with our first finances...this time we DID find that we get some credit plus we found a better program than the one we had first selected, never paid for but could never get out of! Anyway, by lunchtime, we had Healthcare all taken care of.

This afternoon I tackled the last steps of income taxes...again having to call for help. I managed to stymie the first lady so she went for help...and suddenly...we had it done! So..in one day, I have filed federal and state taxes AND signed us up for healthcare.

I have had practically no exercise with all these hours of sitting at the computer...but I am SO glad for all that got done. Now I can go back to the jelly roll quilt top...restitching all the seams of the top...and to the block construction of the General Longstreet quilt. Next class for that is on the 25th

emoticon I am so glad you finally got your microwave. One thing down until the next crisis. LOL Sometimes it feels like you are waiting for the next foot to fall.

It is almost hot today.

I just got some delightful books for my great grandson. They are from Mo Wellems books on elephant and piggies books. They are so cute, move over for Dr. Suess books.
Makes the kids laugh.

My daughter is going to spend the night and stay with me while my husband goes to an auction. I am doing so well, but my dear husband feels like I am fragile. He is definitely a keeper.

Good evening friends

My new microwave was delivered and installed this afternoon while I was teaching. Very pleased to have the broken one replaced.

Great web search information. My hands get tired when I knit a lot, so I realize it can be task related.

I am not walking this morning so I can tackle some house cleaning I love walking, but I don't feel like doing much after I come home again. The floors need attention and there are some other areas that could use loving care again. I'll walk with Pam after work, but I may not hit my 10,000 steps for today.

I probably have four loads of laundry waiting for my attention too. I have done very well with walking this month, but procrastinating on house work. I do need to get some carrots for my crock pot roast, so I'll get some walking in at the store once I get under motion here at home.

Have a grand week. Sending hugs for all.

My daughters used to have trouble with their fingers turning white and feeling numb...it seems to have been related to poor circulation and cold weather. The one school year I got them both to take cayenne pepper, their circulation improved and they didn't go through that cold finger numbness. Don't know if that helps or not.

What Causes Numbness in Fingertips?

What Causes Numbness in Fingertips?
By Cindi Pearce, eHow Contributor

What Causes Numbness in Fingertips?
Numb fingers could have several causes.

We all get cold, very cold, from time to time, especially if we're not dressed warmly enough in the winter. But if the slightest and most minimal exposure to the cold causes your fingertips to go numb and turn white, or you haven't been subjected to the cold at all yet your fingertips are numb, you may have one of several conditions.

Raynaud's Disease

According to Dr. Sheldon G. Sheps of the Mayo Clinic, Raynaud's disease can cause your fingers to go numb. Doctors don't yet know what causes Raynaud's, but it appears the attacks are an overreaction to the body's response to cold. The blood vessels go into a vasospasm that seriously compromises the blood flow to the fingers. This disorder can be caused by using vibrating tools repeatedly, or by medical conditions such as scleroderma, Buerger's disease, rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis, according to Sheps. In addition to numbness in the fingertips, the fingers can turn white if you're suffering from Raynaud's.
Buerger's

Buerger's disease occurs among people who use tobacco products. It is a rare condition of the veins and arteries in the legs and arms. If you are suffering from Buerger's, your blood vessels swell and may be blocked by thrombi, or blood clots. This condition generally makes itself known first in your feet and hands, and may spread to larger areas of your body. It destroys skin tissue and can lead to infection and even gangrene.
Frostbite

Frostbite, of course, leads to numbness of the hands. If your hands are cold and pale, and the flesh becomes painful and red as the frozen area of your hand thaws, this indicates frostbite. Skin and underlying tissues can freeze.
Vibration White Finger

There is a syndrome called vibration white finger, according to Onlinehealthblog.co.uk. If your fingertips are numb, white, tingling or cold, or if you're experiencing a needles-and-pins sensation, you may have VWF. Spasms may even occur because the blood supply to your fingers has been restricted. If you have an extremely bad case of VWF, it can lead to gangrene and skin ulcers. This condition is also caused by using vibrating tools.
Other Conditions

Therapygloves.com explains that finger numbness can be caused by the work you do if it involves repetitive movements. This can result in repetitive strain injury, or RSI. It is possible to damage the nerves in your fingers, as well as the nerves in your hands, wrists, arms and neck if you have sustained an injury or if you keep doing the same movements over and over, day in and day out. Even typing or texting too much can cause strain and injury to your fingers. Carpal tunnel syndrome can lead to numbness in the hands and fingers.

Asta, I have to ask you a question about numb fingers, you are so good about figuring out things. I have two finger tips that are numb. Have been all day. No tingling like going to sleep, just numb.

It is always a relief to come to a decision on something you have been fretting about. I am glad you were able to get a new baby. I use my microwave all the time too.

I am putting sashing on my redwork squares. I am not sure I like the effect but need to do something with it. I need to finish up some of my "wips". LOL

We settled on a new Samsung built-in the same size as what I have but with advanced features. This one is 1100 Watts, and has both the round table on the bottom plus a wire rack across the unit mid-way up. It has the light underneath, and fan, plus some features we haven't had before. Daughter Pam's companion Garry needs to pull out our old one and install the new one for us. He said he would do that. Joe will get a hold of him and set up the whole nine yards. Joe has the model number and unit number from Lowes where we found it. Once this one is removed, he'll order the new one. I can wait. Not my strong suit, but I can do this.

Well, you have done some homework so now you know if you are getting robbed or not. also..consider how long your machine lasts..if last one was made in 2004, it has lasted ten years. With current price you figured, that works out to roughly $36.68 a year. If you use it alot, that would be pretty reasonable I think. Anyway, that's one way to look at it.

Goodness! One repair place wants $85 t come out and do diagnostics plus $40 labor. Then we'd have to add on any parts. That gets closer to a new unit when you add in parts. We drove to Home Depot today, and they have built-ins from $219 to 700. Course the high ones are convection ovens also. Don't need that. But with installation and taxes, the new one still costs $366.80. Same end price.

Not giving up
Checked for Samsung SMH4150 parts myself on an appliance repair site. Gave them my unit's serial number, and found out it may have been made in December 2004. Not 20 years ago. Called another repair man suggested by the first guy who does not do microwave repairs. Up front repair cost is $85.00 plus $40.00 to come out, diagnose the problem and see if he can fix it. Cheaper than buying new, but still a whale of a lot of money. What a conundrum! Lots of uncertainty, and it still might not be fixable, or too darn much to make it right. Yes, a counter top would be cheaper, but but but.

Daughter Pam's companion could probably install it free for us. He's extremely handy.

Jean, did you shop around to see if there are similar models you can install that perhaps are less costly..or can you install it yourselves rather than pay someone else to do it? My son in law installed their microwave himself. If you already have one installed, the plug etc. should already all BE there. Not that I am knowledgeable about such stuff really.

I feel bad bc my built-in microwave is too old for replacement parts. Very sad. My DH says $363.80 for a new built-in microwave installed is just too much money. I don't want to give up more counter space for a counter top. We don't agree on this.

I'll get over it. I know what I want. I do understand where he's coming from. I just don't agree.

emoticon Yippee, you are shrinking. Hallelujah. I have noticed it too, although not much progress, but everything is longer. LOL

I am hoping for more consistency in weather, up and down, and mostly cold, although, I feel fortunate not to live in the East which have been pounded with cold. I am praying for you. I'll bet you are having trouble with cabin fever but Spring is on the way, (I think)

Hubby gave our public talk today..and did such a good job. So proud of him.

Before we left for meeting I had been saying to him that one of the side effects of very gradual weight loss is that clothing fit changes very slowly, too, until you suddenly realize a big change. I showed him a shirt I was wearing that once had been tight enough that I wouldn't wear it without a sweater or jacket, but now fits very nicely and can be worn solo. The skirt is getting quite loose..I no longer wear an extra large. BUT it wasn't until I got to meeting this morning, walked through the door and found my skirt around my ankles that I realized how MUCH change is going on!!! I am grateful I had on a black slip and there weren't many people in the building yet. I decided to remove my pantyhose (slippery and control top) to try to help keep my skirt in place the rest of the morning. I hate the thought of many of my favorite clothing items no longer fitting...I DON'T want to pass them along but I am not keen on doing alterations myself (I can do it) either. Don't know whether to emoticon or emoticon

DIL Delores and I attended a try-county quilt show. We both bought fabric we did not need, but had to have. Grins. Both DH's met us for lunch which made the fun Saturday even better.

Be safe in all this rotten weather. Hope Spring comes soon for all of us.

So sorry you are their easy back-up. Wish it wan't so for you.

I am going to a quilt show tomorrow with DIL and friends from her school. Should be fun.

Our built-in microwave quit heating a week ago. My Joe followed the manual and unplugged it for five minutes, and it re-started itself. This morning it quit heating again, but this time unplugging it does not work. Not sure what we'll do. I think I want a repair man to look at it even though it costs $75 just to look. Not happy about that. The $75 will apply towards the repair IF it can be fixed.

Sending hugs. emoticon

DIL has been substituting at her boys' elementary school. Older child (10 yo.) has been exhibiting all the stress signals of someone being bullied..but he claims he is not. They have narrowed things down to when he is entering one particular class....now parents have decided to pull him out and home school. Now I hear, Mom is going to FL to work with/for her parents for a week and will take Dylan with her, but that means Dawson..in K. will need ride to school and pickup so it appears I am on call yet again. How is it I raised my four with NO help..and my kids ALL need help??? I am going to need a secretary to keep track of which of the five I have to pickup or deliver or entertain etc. on any given day.

Much as I love them all.........I'd rather be quilting. lol

Teaching Friday. Music for the little kiddos. Should be lots of fun. I am still considering dropping out of subbing. I'm not as confident anymore. Still waffling.

I finished knitting a sweater today I need to sew the ends in, and block it, but the knitting is done.

Enjoyed the 2nd class of the General Longstreet series. I managed to finish all the blocks I had prepared and then remade the two missing centers and got those blocks finished also before class today.

I got all the center part of the next series of blocks nearly done in class...still have just a few bits to finish, then will tackle the flying geese again..different colors this time. I am very much liking the fabrics I am using (not Civil War colors). The instructor had the entire large size quilt top completed and is trying to decide how she wants to quilt it. I LIKE this quilt, even in the Civil War reproduction fabrics. Last class for this quilt is the last Tuesday in March..and we will make a longer day of it so we can assemble at least four blocks to see how it all comes together. I wasn't sure I wanted to do this, but now I am glad I did. (I am making the smaller size..not a bed quilt).

I took in the sample quilt from the stencil class. My instructor was pleased with it...that made me happy. The next quilting class for me is a "doodle" class...free motion quilting..on March 13th

That's a positive spin on Megan's plans. Thanks. We know she will do what she wants to do, but we can see problems she doesn't entertain through her rose colored glasses. We hope for the best.
