@CHANGING-TURTLE Glad it is working for you! I like it too. Liked reviewing these study benefits. Helps me to keep going when odd circumstances come up I wasn't planning on encountering.

Its from this video which explains it in greater detail.

This gentleman is who got me started on doing Intermittent Fasting. He has a YouTube channel, where he shares lots of good info about how not to worry about it harming you (there is a lot of emotional junk to work through and clear in order to fast regularly for most people). He recommends doing this style of fasting as shown in the chart above.. I tried this. It didn't work for me. I did it six months and didn't see the kind of benefit I'm getting from my current pattern of fasting--however, a lot of folks who have diabetes told me this works best for them so I thought I would share it.

I hope no one minds but I've posted a LOT about IF on different teams and blogs. I thought I would start reposting some of those previous posts here. Let me know if y'all don't like that...otherwise I'm going to assume it might be helpful to someone (now or in the future).

This is LONG (need a time to sit and listen, or its one of those where you can get things done while listening --i gave it a listen while doing my walking) but this video's summary is really good. It pulls together in one place a lot of information about hormones and other benefits.

youtu.be/T_D21IgWK9U

Got some serious increase in HGH and other benefits listed here in this chart today. Woke up. Did some Tabata style workouts. Got a few things done on the computer. Off to the Grocery Store where I purchased items for our youth group who are working this week on a project (feeding that many requires a HUGE cart full of foods--lots of lifting, bending, squatting opportunities before I even get to the check out, or carting it all in the meeting hall) before breaking-the-fast later this evening.

I've been doing IF since April 2018. I've lost 30 pounds and just about as many inches (taking the normal body measurements at the beginning and subtracting where I am at now and adding it all up). I don't follow a set schedule. I just don't eat until dinner time. If I do not meet my nutritional needs from that one meal, then I eat a second one long before bedtime, but generally I get my nutritional needs met from one meal. The longer the period of IF, the better I feel.

I have been off and on fasting by doing liquid fast. I drink a few drinks that have less than 100 calories . I drink about three drinks like that and the rest of the day lower or no calorie drinks. I take in about 500 calories in one day and the next day eat what I want but no over eating or binges. This way works the best for me.

I plan on eating at 10 am then again at 2 and the last at 6 with a snack at 12 and another at 4. Snack will be like celery with peanut butter or maybe a piece of fruit. Or boiled egg.

Most people don't by eating at ten in the morning and don't eat after 6 . That way they are fasting from 6 at night til 10 in the morning.

I found this
Benefits of Intermittent Fasting
1) Increase Ability to Burn Fat

a woman shows her old jeans after weight loss
While understanding the value of intermittent fasting, it all starts with your ability to burn fat.

If the human body continues to digest new food, it will never get the opportunity to burn through fat. This is why a ďfastingĒ period is useful and brings about meaningful change. It can be a game-changer once the body starts to adapt to the change.

Over time, it becomes easier for the body to shed fat (especially stubborn fat!) and thatís where the value of intermittent fasting comes to the forefront.

2) May Increase Natural HGH (Human Growth Hormone)

Studies have shown intermittent fasting welcomes the production of HGH or human growth hormone in humans.

The body begins to release HGH as a way to counteract the increased fasting periods and this is ideal for improved performance, higher energy levels, and overall health. In fact, the increased HGH levels also help with performance in the gym on a day-to-day basis.

This can include being able to lift more, recover faster, and simply perform better.

3) Easier to Decrease Caloric Intake

What is one of the main reasons for seeing an increase in weight?

Itís the number of calories youíre eating.

By following a robust intermittent fasting meal plan, it becomes easier to manage the number of calories youíre consuming. Over time, youíre able to cut out a lot of unnecessary meals from your diet and thatís when weight loss becomes easier.

4) Improves Metabolic Rate

Your metabolic rate is dependent on the foods youíre eating, genetics, and your natural eating pattern.

The average person doesnít think about this and thatís why their metabolic rate declines leading to weight gain. Instead of letting this happen, intermittent fasting is a wonderful way to regain control and feel good about your health.

Intermittent Fasting Meal Plan
Intermittent Fasting Schedule
Letís focus on the 16/8 method for this meal plan because itís the most popular among fitness experts and nutritionists.

Sunday (8 PM): Eat Final Meal of the Day
Sunday (11 PM): Go To Sleep
Monday (7 AM): Wake Up (Drink Water if Necessary)
Monday (12 PM): Fasting is Complete (16 Hours)
Monday (12 PM Ė 8 PM): Eat A Meal Every Two Hours (Divide Calories Evenly!)
Monday (8 PM): Eat Final Meal of the Day and Start ď16 HourĒ Fast

Wishing you Good LUCK Kathryn with this but just remember:

Trial your IF program for two to three weeks. Monitor how you are feeling and your weekly weight loss. Tweak your program along the way so that you continue with your calorie deficit without feeling dizzy, light-headed or fatigued. If you continue to struggle with these symptoms, face the facts that IF is not for everyone.

I sm fasting by only eating a healthy well balanced full meal for dinner and not eating again until the next days dinner. I spend less time thinking about food. I have planned out my meals for the week.

There are times I've been so stressed, that I skip meals. Not something recommended, of course. But, it happens. It's more about being too stressed to eat, not having much time (b/c of situation at hand). During those times, I don't even feel hungry. When I DO feel hungry, I eat & its all fine. I have fasted, but, not on purpose. Currently trying to get DS to eat more. I'm the mama who brings baked goods when she visits.

There are different versions. Not doing the calorie restriction one. Just limiting eating to an 8 hour window. I thought it might work with my schedule.

For me I don't think I could do this one.......But for those who it helps and doesn't bother you to drop your calories down that low for a day or so then I say GO FOR IT!!!

My son tried this. He lost a fair bit of weight, but he couldn't continue with it because it left him lacking in the energy department. It works well for some and not for others. Below is a link to an article you might find helpful:

It doesn't involve skipping any food groups. It's about restricting eating to, I've heard 7 or 8 hours. If you chose 7 hours starting at 11:00am, then you wouldn't eat after 6 pm. You pick your time period, what works for you.

I've heard of people doing it with some success but for only so long...moderation is best....skipping whole food groups and other strange things don't work well or for long.
