I like to have a few Triscuits and cheese for a snack too.

Sometimes I just pack plain baby carrots or grape tomatoes to have with my lunch. Or grape tomatoes with a little Gouda cheese, yum.

i'm a vegetarian, but i love a good sandwich, too!!! make sure to load your sandwich up with delicious veggies (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, peppers, etc)... it makes the sandwich seem so much bigger that you won't have to double up on the serving size of the meat... not to mention it makes you feel FULLER! i also prefer mustard because it has a zing and 0g of fat...

i love a simple greek salad as a side: chopped chunks of cucumber, tomato, red onion, bell pepper, and kalmata olives with an oz of fat free feta... dash with oregano, dill, pepper and a tiny bit of salt and drizzle with balsamic vinegar. the BEST!

another fave is any type of salsa (low in cals!) with chopped sticks of jicama. jicama is a complex carb, so it makes you feel fuller longer, and it's low in cals and fat. just dash a bit of chili powder on your jicama fries with a squeeze of lemon juice and you're ready to rock-n-roll! they're also great with hummus, or baked as actual fries!

the thing to remember is balance... we should always be mindful of the three main parts to our diet: carbs, protein, and fat. if you see that your normal sides are carb-heavy like chips and crackers, think about switching to something lighter like veggies... plus they're a great source of fiber! ad there are always ways to get carbs while stocking up on other nutrients at the same time! i like greek yogurt: 13g of carbs... but it also has 15g of protein per serving and is just over 100 calories!

a small apple and tbsp of natural peanut butter
lentil chips with hummus (or any veggie with hummus)
broccoli salad (broccoli chopped fine, red bell pepper, chick peas, graped tomatoes, reduced fat feta and basalmic vinaigrette)
chickpeas, tomato and cucumber salad (notice a chick pea pattern here, hmmm)
broth or tomato based soup

I eat ALOT of turkey sandwiches and I typically pair them with a salad. Ilike sweet salads with fruit like strawberries and almonds and a light raspberry vinigerette or sometimes just a basic house salad with romaine , spinich leaves, carrots, tomatos, cucumber, and onion with balsamic or italian dressing. ( depends on my mood really).Oh and Krillfury, THAT sounds emoticon

AMANDAB386,

I like to have Triscuts with my sandwiches. I have some in the pantry right now, the original kind. I checked the serving sizes. I've been eating them along the serving sizes. There are 6 crackers for 120 calories. It's not that bad, once you really look at it. I find that having a sandwich, triscuts and a veggie or fruit is really satisfying.

I like to have Wheat Thins. That is what I take when I have a sandwich. Oh, or Triscuits. My trainer says those are good options. Just check the serving size, they aren't very big. I recently tried Sundried Tomato and Basil Wheat Thins. They are really good.

I like ground chicken cooked with mint, lemon juice, salt and pepper, then, in a lettuce cup (I like butter lettuce or romaine rather than iceberg) you add shredded carrots, a little finely shredded purple cabbage, and some finely shredded squash or zucchini.

For the sauce, grate a little fresh ginger, some lemon juice, and a little honey, very little tamarind juice and drizzle. I guess this is like a lettuce sandwich or wrap? All the veggies paired with the chicken are really good and good for you.

It's delicious!

Yeah but I got tired of them. Roman meal and Soft Wheat (by Bimbo (I think)) is not as dry and it only has 20 or 30 more calories.

I do add chicken sometimes. Tuna is good as well and a tablespoon of balsamic vinaigrette ties all of the flavors together.

Pickles...pickles...pickles....I'm a huge pickle fan! (The crunchy dill ones - and the spicier the better!) I feel like it's a treat. I know there's lots of sodium in them, but no fat or caloires (and they also want me to drink more water!).

I love to have a sandwich or half a wrap with a bowl of soup! for some reason that big bowl of soup (I tend to have two servings of something low calorie like tomato soup) fills me up more than a small side would!

I usually do baby carrots, something about the crunch is a good sub for chips to me. Yogurt and fruit go well too. I grab a couple of bags of Chex Mix (esp. the BBQ!) when I absolutely want a chip fix.

With cilantro after, y'all. MMm.
Okay, I guess I know what I'm getting from the store tomorrow!

As for the original question, I made a spooned-salad with diced roma tomatoes, raw onion, celery, English cucumber, and lime juice. Eat it on the side, with a spoon instead of a fork! So yummy, and a nice change from the traditional "salad greens". It would even be good mixed with some pasta or brown rice and canned tuna or salmon for an all-inclusive meal! Or just the fish with the veggies for a non-mayo tuna salad!

You need some fruits or veggies to go with that sandwich. You have the protein and carbs pretty much covered. Grab an apple. Get some more fiber in there! :D

I'm going to go have strawberries and hot tea for dessert. I need to stop talking about food! LOL!

Oh my gosh that sounds so goooood KRILLFURY!

You know what I need? A mandolin slicer. Yeah! I once tried to slice some potatoes super thin with a veggie peeler, except the problem was that in order for it to go through the end of the slice, I had to push it with my finger (um, yes, DUMB move, got my finger sliced).

I have some sweet potato fries in the fridge. Crisped roased sweet potatoes sound even yummier!! Yum.

I know that I just hijacked the original discussion, but ...
Thanks!

Just to add something to the sweet potatoes...spraying them with butter flavoured cooking spray might make them a little crispy...and maybe a little chili powder or low sodium Mrs Dash.

I love to thinly slice sweet potatoes and then bake them until they are crisp. No oil, no salt, just bake them for about 1/2 an hour or so. They're delicious once they cool down and I don't crave chips!

Hi Everyone!

For Lunch or Dinner, I'll be making Sandwiches to carry me until I go back to the store again. I have the following for Sandwiches

Albacore Tuna
Hillshire Oven Roasted Turkey Breast
Hillshire Smoked Ham

And I have those Orowheat Sandwich Thins. I've been using those for years in place of Sandwich Bread. I'm just wondering what are some other healthy sides, I can pair with Sandwich besides Chips or Pretzels(even though I LOVE them both)

Thanks!
