I'm a total Stress Eater. Mostly after work, even if work went well, I feel I have to reward myself or I use food to calm myself.

I totally used to be a weekender, but have really worked hard on fixing that and have done well. But...oh, the stress eating! I just had my parents visiting or a week and realized, that, yeah-- in some situations, I still stress eat-- a lot! I think I gained about 5 lbs (not kidding!) in the last 6 days. I am going to be doing some serious self examination over the next week or so, and also pounding pavement and burning calories like crazy while soul searching why they make me want to nom nom nom nom nom..........

Imperfection is important. If we were all perfect, then there would be no such thing as growth, and everyone would be extremely boring, which is, paradoxically, not that perfect.-- Dr. Matt

Great article. I fall more into The Weekender category, but also the stress eater. Like many others, I stick to my plan and schedule all week, and when the weekend comes, I have good intentions but SOMETHING always seems to happen. I am tired of being excited on Fridays when I have made progress, only to regress it by Monday morning and start all over again.

This is my #2 item to work on, with getting more active being #1

I am a one day weekender. Since I work mostly 6 days a week, my schedule is only changed up on Sundays. Which I take too much advantage of, too nice to just turn the brain off and do nothing. I need to work on that!

The power to change, the courage to do, the will and drive to be exceptional lies within me, and by leaving my fears, my doubts, and my excuses behind, I embrace all that lies within me.

Wow, I've never heard it explained like that. I guess I would say #3 & #1.
#3 b/c I am a nibbler. Those calories really do add up. I track them & that really helps.
#1 the weekender but Not eating overboard, I go the other way. I DON'T eat. I work so hard getting my calories all week & throw it out the window most weekends. I'm really working on it. Most weekends as long as I get over 1000 calories I'm happy.
Very interesting! "Thanks!

Becky

I was somewhat of a weekender, but mostly a stress eater...more specifically, a stress nibbler.

I am a weekender also. Lots of things happen during the weekends and I always count the calories, so weekends are better though. I do have more calories on Wednesday, which does help me a little.

Hey Ellen!
Wow, I didn't realize there were types out there. I definitely fall under Category #1, The Weekender. I am struggling with this each and every weekend. The weekend is usually my off days for cardio and strength training. But I still try to eat healthy and I count EVERYTHING in my nutrition tracker as well. I have no off days for that. but I still catch myself eating huge meals, because I am not snacking on my healthy snacks throughout the day. Normally, I would have several healthy snacks throughout the day, and then have a reasonable dinner at the end of the day. On weekends, however, I find myself, trying to get in some calories toward the end of the day, because I barely ate anything earlier that day. I really need to work on this. It's a HUGE issue for me.
I also use to struggle with being Type #2, the Calorie Drinker. I almost NEVER drank water, Dr. Pepper was my weakness, and Koolaid (with less than half the recommended amount of sugar added). I gradually worked towards drinking nothing but water, which is what I do now. However, I do still LOVE fruity alcoholic beverages (like Bahama Mamas and Hurricanes), and even though I drink them very rarely, I drink alot of them when I do, and the calories really add up quickly. I am working on it though.

Thanks for posting.
This brought on a touchy subject that doesn't really apply, so I am going to blog more about this. I caught myself writing an even longer reply than this one, if you can believe that. It would've been SO overwhelming to the other readers.

Julie

I am totally The Weekender. I have mastered my ability to eat wisely while at restaurants: half a salad, dressing on the side, lean protein, and veggies are my BFFs. But the second my partner and I decide to go out for Fast Food rather than to sit down for a meal, it's all over. I make really student glutenous decisions when I'm faced with those french fries, cheeseburgers, and milkshakes. I am just starting to work toward tackling my Weekender issues as I am tired of busting my butt at the gym all week only to weigh in at the same weight every single Sunday.

Um, all of them?

Haha. I do struggle with most of these from time to time. I definitely struggle with "The weekender" when hubby wants to go out to eat, or when I travel for work and the bosses want to take us all out to a nice dinner. That is definitely one I am currently working on.

I used to be a "Calorie Drinker" for sure. I love pepsi. And coke. And Mtn Dew. And Dr. Pepper. Hehe. But I rarely have a soda now, and when I do, it's along with problem number one above!

I'm pretty good with Types 3 and 5, usually not a problem for me. But definitely notice that when I've had a long stressful day, french fries sound like an amazing plan for dinner.

It's a great article, thanks for sharing. Being aware definitely helps you see when you are making poor choices and helps you make better ones!

I found this article and thought it was very interesting...

shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/5-eat

g-styles-that-can-lead-to-weight-gaiR>n-2457895/

"Certain ingrained habits—even seemingly minor ones—have a significant effect on your weight. The hard part, too, is that even when you make the decision to, say, eat more fruit or hit the gym one more time a week, past behaviors can sneak in and undermine your best efforts. Those patterns can be grouped into five basic eating types. Chances are, you’ll identify with one or more. Once you recognize your type (or types), you'll be able to develop strategies and solutions tailored specifically to your needs..."

Type # 1: The Weekender
Type # 2: The Calorie Drinker
Type # 3: The Low-Hanging "Fruit" Grabber
Type # 4: The Stress Eater
Type # 5: The Judger

I think I definitely fit into the weekender, although I have really gotten better with this and have learned to not be so tough during the week and not go crazy on the weekends. I allow myself small splurges to prevent myself from having an all weekend party... lol.

What type are you?
