Thanks Gingerra1980! And AWESOME on the running front! Yup, you gotta look for those silver linings, because they ARE there, even if you have to search a little harder for them sometimes!

So OK, last night I had myself a nice glass of chocolate milk after my workout, and my overall calories were in the 1500 range instead of where I feel I *need* to be: at the minimum of 1320.

I think I'm going to beef up my lunch calories a little-try to get some more protein in, and that way I have a good amount of energy by the time zumba comes around.

Yup-I took just a one week break from running to do this crazy zumba "test" so it's been ALL zumba this week. This will NOT continue, as I plan to run a 5K in early April, and want to work on increasing my distance.

I do take a rest day! tomorrow there will be NO zumba, running, or anything else! In a "normal" week I have 1-2 rest days, just depending on what else is going on with my crazy schedule.

Not sure what it was exactly, but this morning I was down .6 from yesterday, and reached my lowest Spark weight to date.

Chocolate milk is actually one of the "recommended" post workout foods, so have at er!

Rest days are important, definitely make sure you are incorporating one into your week!

Waldwesen, how did you incorporate more calories into your day? Did you add a few more to each meal? Start eating higher calorie foods? I'd love some suggestions!

Andrea- let us know how your experiment goes! I, too, went through a period about 50 lbs into my weight loss where it all but stopped. I had a LOT more to lose than you (still do) and I didn't understand it. I was running 3 times a week and doing at least an hour of other exercises EVERY SINGLE DAY.

A friend of mine who had lost more than 150 lbs advised me to up my calories to 1500-1800 a day (we're the same height) and BOOM, I took off again. The next 30 lbs or so positively melted off, it was amazing.

I hope it works for you! Also, check those measurements! With all that exercise I bet you are getting RIPPED. Body fat % could be going down even though the scale's not.

I know that this is a silly question but do you have a rest day? I wasn't losing any weight and then a personal trainer asked me if I had a rest day.. once I started adding a rest day, my weight started to move in the right direction again.

Also like all the others said, upping your calories may help too.. with all the exercise you're doing your body may think it's starving..

Thanks! Yeah, I usually run 1-2 days a week (anywhere from 3-6 miles total) and zumba toning just started up again, using 2.5lb weights, so I'm getting some mild ST in there at the moment.

I do know I need to mix it up, just trying out this increased zumba load this week & next so I can feel out how I would be in a regular teaching gig. Also want to make sure my endurance is top notch on the zumba front for certification next week. This craziness with weight happens ALL THE TIME, not just right now when I'm focusing on zumba. *sigh* I think my genetic makeup just makes it super hard to lose any faster than I am. It's annoying. Especially when I see others losing 10+lbs in a MONTH! Takes me 2.5-3 times as long! Wahhhh! lol. I'll stop whining & be a big girl now.

Are you doing exercises other than zumba? Now, don't get me wrong, I am a total zumba addict and could do it all day every day...but I wonder if you would see more results if you added some variety to your workouts. Maybe some free weights or resistance bands...or even just the body weight exercises, I use the ones here at SP all the time. Otherwise I agree with the others that you may need to eat more. Zumba burns crazy calories (part of the reason we all love it so) so you need to make sure you are replacing some of those just to keep your body in good working order.

As a side note: awesome job on your losses so far, a real inspiration.

I love the low fat chocolate pudding. I whip it up alot then stick it in the freezer. Its only 80 calories per serving and a whole box is only 4 servings. Frozen is my favorite way to eat it!

Good to hear that Andrea!! I on the other hand go insane trying to get enough nutricious calories!! There's somehow always a scope to still have more and then I can always think of a chocolate or a pudding that would help me fill up the gap... its really funny... I never thought it'd be tough to eat enough!! :P

I've actually been CRAVING chocolate milk after workouts. So I sometimes indulge in a little. I think I'm just so used to being stingy with my calories, I feel funny going even the MIDDLE of my range! But dang it, I'm having a bigger glass from now on!

Sounds like you have a plan, I would agree to try and eat a bit more, try milk, my fave is chocolate. Especially if I am short on calories. It's tasty declicious nutritious and oh yeah, chocolate! Keep up the great work, you will get there.

I am going through this as well. I need to eat more. And I need to make sure that I need to eat more by eating more of the RIGHT foods, rather than realizing I am way below my calorie range at the end of the day and then having a bag of popcorn or chips to fill that gap. I am trying to eat more snacks, bigger salads, more protein and hoping that will bust the plateu. I feel like I am losing inches, just waiting for that weight loss to follow!

Good luck with upping your calorie range, it's tough to eat when you're full! But we can do it, and we will notice a difference, I AM SURE OF IT!

Thanks ladies! I think I WILL try increasing my calorie intake. The funny thing is: The more I work out, the LESS I feel like eating. Strange, huh? DH has been getting a kick out me sitting around at night going "OK.....I NEED to east least 200 more calories today...." and rummaging around for a good snack option.

I'm totally NOT afraid of fat grams. I eat full-on peanut butter, regular cheese, sour cream, etc. But in small amounts. So fat grams are OK. I know my fiber should be up a little bit more. And proteins....well, I usually fall a couple grams short, so I think I'll work on getting a few more protein calories in each day.

Measurement wise-my hips are smaller, but my waist has been hovering between 34-35 inches FOREVER. And the girls? Unfortunately, they're not going anywhere. lol. Dang it.

Andrea - experiment just for 7 days and eat more get 200-300 calories more per day (the difference will come about within 4-5 days if not, then definitely in 7 days). I had the most frustrating first month at SP coz of eating less and increasing my workouts as I gained stamina and endurance. I lost 7 lbs in 7 weeks... then after increasing my intake of calories (healthy stuff only) I lost 3 lbs in a weeks time with the same workouts!!

Im pretty sure ur not eating enough and ur body is in fear of a famine. It wont part with any fat - the only thing that'll help it survive a famine.

And Yes, SP recomends that 30% of ur daily calories come from fat, 20% of the daily calories come from Proteins and the remaining 50 from Carbs. Make sure you have 25-35 grams of fibre and 8-10 glasses of water - That'll do the trick! Woo Hoo!! :D

Cheer up honey, Your Done sisters are here to keep u going!!

Well at least you know when you get where you want to be you can maintain fairly easy. You are doing great and as long as you feel great don't let it bring you down. You'll get there and you know you will. Just breathe. Maybe the stressing out over it and trying to get it down before your certification is playing more into it than you realize. You can do it! emoticon

It doesn't sound like your eating enough. I upped my calories from 1200-1300 to 1500-1700 and I feel way better and have still consistantly dropped weight. Plus you should look at your split of carbs/protein/fat.

As much as there is fat free and low fat out there your body does need to have some fat in the food to work.

Are you eating enough for the calories you're burning? Maybe try upping your calories by like 100 while keeping the exercise the same to see if breaks the plateau.

BTW - congrats on all your loss so far.

I understand your frustration. Sometimes, it seems that the calories in/calories out thing just doesn't work. I also understand that even if you notice toning/muscles/etc, you still want to see that scale moving!

For me, I increased my cardio (starting adding in a light morning workout) and after a week - NOTHING! I didn't understand how that was possible. However, after two weeks, I had a good loss. So really, what I'm trying to say is keep on track - sometimes, it takes a while for your body to catch up (so to speak).

Have you checked your measurements? Are your clothes fitting differently? Sometimes the scale does not show the whole picture.

Yes, I HAVE lost almost 40lbs-over 3 YEARS time. I haven't been the most consistent. My loss goes something like this: Lose 10, gain 3, lose 5, gain 2, lose 7, gain 1, etc. Not yo-yo necessarily, it's just that if I ease up on the eating front AT ALL, even with working out 6-7 days a week, I maintain or GAIN. Soooooooooo frustrating.

Anyway, my energy level is fabulous. I've already done 3 Zumba classes this week; am doing the toning class tonight PLUS the regular class, class tomorrow that I'll help lead, and then again Saturday. Usually I have running days in there, but since I'm getting zumba certified next week, right now it's all about the zumba. I'm working on making my movements BIGGER, and seriously increasing my intensity level. It's working because I can totally feel it.

But anyway. I set out to get down to 172 by next Friday (certification day). See, my lowest Spark weight was reached in December, just a week before Christmas (173.6) and I was not so good over the holidays. Not horrible, but then January had me on this downward spiral of sugary carb eating. It wasn't pretty. I ended up gaining about 4lbs-putting me back around 177. I've been busting my butt since about January 20 trying to get things back on track, and as of this morning am at 173.8.

But here's the thing that KILLS me. This is what has happened in the past week:

Thu: 1298 cals, 60 minute zumba class
Fri: 1094 cals (fell asleep before I could get a snack in there)
Sat: 1515 cals, 60 minute zumba class
Sun: 1461 cals; 60 minute zumba class
Mon: 1321 cals; 60 minute zumba class
Tue: 1417 cals; 60 minute zumba class

And the difference on the scale in that week? .4lbs. REALLY?!?!?!?!?!??!!??!!? Not even a full lb????? REALLY?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!??!?!

Ugh. And yup, my water consumption is 8-10 glasses daily, sodium (except for one day) has been under 2000, protein is usually around 55, carbs are between 180-220. My calories are supposed to be within 1320-1670 (i HAVE adjusted it based on what I am burning through all the workouts).

I DO usually have more variation in workouts, but again, I'm kind of "cramming" for my zumba certification next week, and also testing myself to see how many zumba classes/week my body is up for. If I'm going to be an instructor, I need to know that I can handle "x" many classes week in & week out.

And this is NOT an uncommon thing. I mean, eating GREAT (seriously: salads, grapefruit for my snacks, homemade smoothies for breakfast...) and busting my butt gets me AT MOST down 4lbs in a month. WTF??????

*sigh*

Like I said though, my energy level is great. My endurance level is improving vastly. I feel GOOD. But sometimes, I just want to rage at the fact the stupid scale takes SO LONG to reflect any progress. I STILL weigh 173 lbs for crying out loud. Obviously my body NEEDS to lose more weight. Just wish it would get going already.

Thanks for listening to my vent. emoticon
