Typically I do a small handful of nuts or a Luna bar. Sometimes maybe an apple or banana. Not something super heavy because it always upsets my stomach.

I eat (ritually!) an apple with 2 tbsp of peanut butter an hour before my workouts. Always keeps me going!

This morning I had some homemade bread machine bread my hubby made. Sometimes I have a granola bar. Sometimes I go without but I haven't had any issues with that. I just come home and make sure I eat well afterwards.

It depends on the workout. Before belly dance class, which is in the evening, I have a bowl of Cheerios with a banana sliced in. The potassium and lots of water during class help prevent leg cramps. Before my morning workouts, however, it's just a cup of orange juice and half a wheat muffin with peanut butter slapped on top.

Never give up! Never surrender!

I want to run and not be weary, to walk and not faint.

Amicitia concero omnis!

I eat a piece a fruit. An apple or an orange have been my goto preworkout snack lately. It really seems to help me make it through all of my workouts.

Protein. I eat the South Beach Protein bars. Check your protein at other meals also.

I usually eat a Access bar 15 minutes before my work outs...they work really well for keeping my energy up and helping not be sore the next day.

A sign, perhaps, of self-indulgence or indifference or emotional distress. But not disgusting." - Victoria Moran

I haven't had a problem with energy once I get on the treadmill. I get revived as I go and time passes and feel like I could run around the block 20 more times.

I like to keep Special K protein shakes on hand (although whatever brand you like would probably be fine). I also find that if I have a banana with the shake about a half hour before I work out I do better!

I have not tried this myself, but I read here that eating half an energy bar before a workout is a big help too. It's all about complex carbs:

Hope this helps :) Keep up the good work!

I've been noticing that (sometimes) lately I totally lose energy during workouts - especially cardio. (Though I definitely am meeting and sometimes exceeding my daily calorie range - eek!) I'll go to a 45 minute aerobics class and feel tired half-way through.

I suspect it may be because I've been eating more fat & protein lately (for whatever reason), which seems to be more taxing on the body than carbs...

On that note, would anyone care to share their favorite, clean pre-workout snacks? Anything that seems to keep your energy level high? I'd love some suggestions!
