Hello! I'm brand new to this group and I haven't decided where I want to walk yet. I'm thinking... maybe to my boyfriend's home in California? I'm from Iowa, and I believe we calculated the distance at one point to be just short of 2,000 miles? Sheesh! Better get to it!

Ok so I changed my mind on what I want to do. I need a more immediate goal. Maybe not too much so but something I can reach in a reasonable amount of time. Right now I am reading a book about settlers traveling to the west... its a romance but the first part of the story they talk about their travels by wagon (some of them walked by the wagon part of the way). The girl says she split her time between riding and walking so I am figuring about half and half and it took them about 6 weeks to make it across. What I want to do is try to walk only on my days off and I work 7 days out of 2 weeks. So over the nxt 12 weeks I want to walk from Kansas city, MO to Denver, CO. as if I was part of a wagon train. The distance is 600 miles so I would only walk half of that distance. SO, 300 miles in 12 weeks on my days off is approx. 7.2 miles a day. This will be fun.

To add a long-term fun element to my workout routine, I'm going to walk the Lewis & Clark expedition. I haven't been able to find a definitive distance online, so I'll average what I've found to about 7,700 miles. No, I'm not going to try to accomplish this in any particular timeline, but it will make my walking workouts feel a little more adventurous! And it will be neat to chip away at that enormous journey!

Make sure to enjoy the scenery along the way. Taking that extra time to smell the roses definitely pays off with the stress issues we often face etch day. I was walking to Canada but then I started doing T25 and became sidetracked.

I have been dreaming of moving to Colorado. So this next year I would like to walk from Florida to Colorado that is approximately 1150 miles. There are approximately 64 weeks until Jan 1 2015 so that averages out to about 3.5 miles 5 days per week. It is a big goal but I really want to make this one work.

Hi everyone this sounds like a great way to keep track of my walking miles and fun, too. I would like to start my first walk off by heading to Toronto, ON, Canada. Then I believe I will head to Australia.

From Columbus, Ohio to Toronto, ON, Canada is 417 miles, so here I go. See you all on the highways and by-ways. emoticon

This will be a great way for me to show my husband where our evening walks can take us and keep us both healthy and fit.

I have always wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail, so I have decided that is what I am doing. State by state. I will head northbound starting in Georgia, which is about 75 miles total. Hopefully, I will be able to research my walk as I go along and learn more about the AT.

Since my actually honeymoon spot is only a few hours drive from I home I have chosen somewhere much much farther away to walk to. I have 9 months to get there and I am choosing to go to Honolulu, HI. The distance between my hometown and Honolulu is 4,535 miles. Which my miles per day should be over 17. I am shocked and honestly at 4:43pm have only clocked 2 miles for the day. I HAD BETTER GET WALKING!!!!!!!!

I am doing a 5k on December 29th in Panama City, FL. That is 355 miles from my house according to mapquest. That is 1.75 miles a day with 17 days of rest. In order to prepare for my 5k I am going to virtually walk to Panama. This is great. I am excited.

Well I had set a goal a while back and I never got there. So I'll recommit and put up visual reminders today. I guess I should stick to my original goal of walking to La Push, WA. Since I won't get there till next summer, this can be my little virtual mini vacation. It's 359 kms, I'll have to figure out the miles. I'm also starting a 10 min walk per day streak today, so I'll make my goals in miles rather than minutes.

My daughter is getting married in August 2012. I am going to walk to her wedding. That will be quite a feat as I live in Ivanovo, Russia and she lives in Escanaba, Michigan. The distance is approximately 5,432 miles. I have 15 months. With 526 days to do it. That is 10.3 miles a day. For someone who is semi-sedentary, thais will be quite the distance, but I really want to do this. For her and for me!!! I need all the encouragement I can get!
Also need to find my pedometer and fast!!! LOL

I use maps.google.com

You can put in your beginning point and then your destination point to see how far your walk will be and what the places of interest are.

You can click on the link to "explore making custom maps in an interactive tutorial" or you can simply "create map" and then map it larger or smaller. I have walked through some very small towns and yet been able to find out information on them. Every now and then I go to Trip Advisor to figure out my "hotel" and "restaurant" choices!

RIght now I am in Berlin! I am staying at the 5 star hotel called "Das Stue" and I've dined at the Heising (virtually) and had a coffee at the "Bonanza Coffee Heroes". My dinner cost 54 Euros but it's virtual money!

Well, I hate the drive from the house in Florida to the house in North Carolina, so I'm going to walk there in 2013. It's 560 miles as the car drives. And I think I'll use that distance since I'm not much for climbing fences and rugged terrain.

I'd rather be flying to Hawaii, however!!

I joined this group and told some people at work about it. I work in the ER and several of us have decided to walk from our ER to Ocala, Florida. It is apporximately 100 miles. We are giving ourself 10 weeks to do it in. That is 2 miles a day x 5 days a week. We wanted to start out kind of slow since some of us were not walking at all.

from there I am heading to Third Place Books in the Seattle area and then back to Book People in Austin. mileage is about 6700. Probably take some detours if I hear of anything interesting along the way. :) Set out yesterday for 2.5 miles .

For years I've been wanting to do a coast to coast walking vacation in England. While I still hope to do it in real life, I will enjoy it now in a different way.

190 miles. This is a good link which talks about the walk and area in case this interests anyone else.

Scotland sounds like it would be a nice walk. A short walk would be Hadrian's wall - it is still maked. So many interesting places that could be walked!

Cindy, my walk is from Moscow to Lucca, Italy. I thought a bonus along the way would be doing some internet searches and reading all about my "virtual" visits. It should take me close to another year to finish my walk and next time I might pick a shorter walk. The AT might be good or the Grand Canyon. Or maybe a walk around Scotland?

This group has been a huge motivation for me to keep moving!

Lithuania sounds like an interesting place to walk. I had not thought of walking in a foreign country until I saw the challenges on this board. Maybe when I finish the AT... Although I'm thinking of the Grand Canyon (much shorter walk) next.

I have spent the past two months and one week walking across Lithuania. It is the geographic center of Europe and a great place to walk in the summertime.

Isn't anyone walking this week? It's hot and humid here in AL (and on my virtual hike of the AT), but I've found a route in and out of my building that gives me up to 40 minutes walking time, without overheating me. Keep on hiking! emoticon

Ladyvolsfan1954 - I'm doing the Appalachain Trail also. I've been off track for a while, but am back on. I've made it about 880 miles - near Waynesboro, VA. Keep on hiking! emoticon

That IS a long walk. Where are you starting from? Have you given yourself a goal time frame?

My first virtual walk will be from my home in Mission, B.C. to Forks, WA. It's 283 km, or 178.9 miles. I'll call it 179 miles. My aim is to do this in 3 mile increments. I'm just now starting to walk pain free. I haven't technically been cleared for walking, but as soon as I am, I'm on my way!
