Fortunately, things like rice, beans, noodles, vegetables (discount produce), bananas, potatoes, frozen veg and frozen fruit, and oats are all fairly inexpensive here! I can feed myself and three children on less than $100/week if we don't buy extras and I plan well. We eat spaghetti once a week, twice baked potatoes at least once, mashed potatoes, tomato soup with alphabet noodles (about $2.50 for the meal and there's leftovers), sesame noodles with tofu, etc.

Do you have any Aldi's nearby? I cannot believe how much cheaper it is to shop there.

Hello:

I hear ya!!! emoticon
I was laid off a year ago and feed 2 people on less than $200 a month

I find the most important thing for me to do is WATCH THE CIRCULARS! Fortunately there are 3 major supermarkets right in my neighborhood, so it is easy to comparison shop and take advantage of not driving too far to get the best deals. LOWES has bone in chicken breast for .97 cents a pound this week, so I will stock up. Last week both green beans (fresh) and red grapes were .97 lb and so on. If you by any chance have an ALDI in your area, they don't have a tremendous selection, but the quality of their produce is high and prices cannot be beat.

Become a conscious shopper and its amazing how cheaply you can prepare a large variety of healthy meals.

I've been doing quite well on my diet, I've lost 15 pounds total (4 since I joined SP) but my biggest problem is making healthy meals. I don't have all this money to be spending on ridiculous food but I'd like to make fun, healthy meals also.

Any suggestions?
