Hi Wispy:

I don't like to take any more medicine than I have to. I was doped up on asthma and allergy meds as a kid that made me very resistant to taking anything. I also was concerned that it was like a legal version of the self medication my family used to participate in. Over time I have found that I needed them and that there are ones that help. Like allergy meds which again I preferred not to use unless I'm suffering.

When I find myself comparing my accomplishments and strengths to others in a negative manner, I journal on a page folded in half and after I had a walk to shake off the angst I go back and write on the other side what I would day to a friend feeling that way. Surprisingly I'm much kinder and wiser to others than myself but it works after I look at it a couple of times.

I wish you the best in achieving your goals and look forward to your posts.

4 Noble Truths

1. Suffering is a part of life
2. Suffering is caused by our attachments and avoidances.
3. Suffering can be ended.
4. Freedom from suffering is possible by following the Eightfold path.

Bigotry disguised as morality is still bigotry just as an outhouse with
marble columns is still an outhouse.

we are one in the same. I too have tried to wean myself off meds, and every word you said can describe my life. I have always competed with myself more than with others. Some of what you have said I am still working on. like being ashamed of having bi-polar. more so to my family members because they have gotten in life where they want to be, I felt like I would never get where I want to be, so would give up.
lots of things I am still working on, and seeing a counselor now. But the only people I will always feel inferior to is my father and step mother.

I am still working on mot being jealous of others successes, and that will come in time as my self healing greatens.

Your courage is an inspiration for me - thank you for sharing

“I believe life is constantly testing us for our level of commitment, and life's greatest rewards are reserved for those who demonstrate a never-ending commitment to act until they achieve. This level of resolve can move mountains, but it must be constant and consistent. As simplistic as this may sound, it is still the common denominator separating those who live their dreams from those who live in regret.” - Anthony Robbins

Remember, nobody can go back to the very beginning and make a brand new start, but anyone can start here and make a brand new end.

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results."

Wow! You are so inspiring. You really said it all in a well written statement. It takes courage to take charge of your life and not worry about other peoples standards. I applaud you. Sherry

I used to go to the Doctor and then not take the meds as prescribed. I was always trying to wean myself off so I could feel "normal" and not have to depend on something to make me feel like other people. Taking pills made me feel inferior and a failure at life.

I had no trouble with pills for physical conditions. It was my emotional problems that I did not like to even admit I had - never mind take pills for.

I felt inadequate and like a "social outcast" because of depression, anxiety and phobias which I have had all my life. This view was encouraged by a world which to a great extent did not understand mental and emotional illess.

I used to judge myself by the way other people judged me and also by comparing myself to others until I learnt how to stop judging myself by other people's standards, or by what other people could or could not do.

This was a wonderful lesson to learn because it allowed me to be my own unique self and to come to love and appreciate who I am.

Someone once said 'If we judge ourselves according to others there will always be those who are greater or lesser than ourselves.'

These days I have an inner desire to be my own best self according to my own understanding of what that means to me. I do this by being gentle with myself, nurturing myself and going at my own pace in everything I do.

I do what is right for me and not what someone else thinks I should or should not be doing. If I find something helpful I use it and if I do not then I leave it alone. I believe we each need to discover what is helpful and works for our own individual needs and then make full use of those things.

I used to hate feeling like a failure when others achieved what I could not. I felt like I wanted to give up because what was the use of going on if I could never win, or achieve success in any venture.

These days I am happy to honestly praise and acknowledge other people's success and achievements because their success says nothing negative about me.

Nothing is taken away from me when others succeed - because I am in competition with no one.
