I look up to my parents. They have been married 41 years and are the best parents anyone can ask for. They have been there for me through everything. My dad doesn't do well with being at hospitals but he was there in the waiting room when I was having a D&C after my miscarriage. He also took care of calling the church to find out if there was anything we could do.

My mom has been my rock through everything that I have ever gone through and is my best friend!

I look up to my my grandmother (mom's side) because she has overcome many obstacles, she is saavy with money and has the best home remedies. She also has amazing faith and a wonderful person all around.

My parents. Their marriage is an example to my sister and me now that we are married. They set an example of what a team-oriented marriage is, and how being grounded with strong roots helps foster a family. They both set examples of what caring for others means, and how serving others without wanting self-gratification looks. They taught us respect for nature, and how to conserve it properly. They taught us to follow where our passions lie, which led us to different career paths that suit our strengths. They encouraged us to play sports and do other activities that suited our interests, and they didn't let us quit. They showed us what strength in adversity is, during my mom's battle with cancer (which she won). They encouraged us to read, and to always keep learning. They taught us that we can do anything boys can do (we have no brothers). Both my parents have jobs about which they are incredibly passionate, and have shown that when you love what you do, it stops being a job.

Separately, they are amazing people. Together, they're practically unstoppable. They have cared for, loved, and supported my sister and me throughout our lives, from birth through college, and into starting our paths with our husbands. From scraped knees to hard break-ups, they've helped us heal and move forward whether we needed a Band-Aid or some wise words, or just a hug. They are the type of parents I hope my husband and I will be one day when we have our own kids.

Just call me La. Most everyone else does.
