I'm concerned that there might be a fertility issue lurking in my future. We haven't started TTC yet but I haven't been on a contraceptive for 5 years and all my doctors seem a little shocked that there wasn't an accidental pregnancy during that time.

I'm hoping that I don't have to look into the sperm counts and all that but we'll find out I guess. In the meantime it's good information.

I wanted to comment on the acupuncture. If you live in a big city there might be some acupunture schools in your area. I live in Denver and there are 2 schools in the area and the costs are much cheaper compared to those offered through my health care provider. $25 for the school compared to $90. As long as you don't mind the students doing the needles it might be a nice option.

Yeah...that's what I was afraid of...I'm going to have to work it into the budget somehow!

About every week to 2 weeks. Apparently you're supposed to go weekly during your first 3 months and can then go monthly. It gets expensive, though...

How often do you go for acupuncture treatments?

SUNNY - I've been doing acupuncture now for about 6 weeks. I have NO idea if it's working. I'm still irregular and not pregnant. But, typically, they say give the treatments at least 3 months to start being effective. AND - if nothing else, I always feel good after my session. I just consider it a well deserved hour break in my day.

Love,
Hillary

Thanks! We're actually looking into trying acupuncture treatments for both of us. And yesterday he got a call from this specialist he is supposed to go and see...he's been trying to get in for 2.5 months. Basically the doctor has to review your chart and decide to take your case before you can get an appointment. Yesterday, DH finally said "look it's been 2 months...I can't get anything other than you have to wait for the doctor to review your chart out of you people...could you at least check to see that he got my chart?" the girl told us, "oh, we never got your records from your doctor. Their fax must not have gone through." Today DH's quest is to get his records refaxed.

Hopefully, we're on the right track and will be able to get his situation on the mend soon.

I hope things are able to fall back in line for you both!

My husband doesn't see a doctor. The RE basically said there's nothing that can change abnormal morphology...

Thanks! I am glad to be back! I needed a little break while I was working some crazy hours.

Hubby has been having a tough time...got laid off again Jan 1 (had 2 job interviews so hopefully, he will get one) and a tough time with the fertility stuff. Haven't gotten to the right doctor yet, but I feel like it will happen soon. What kind of doctor does your hubby see?

Anyway, I am getting back on track with my health and hoping it will help inspire my hubby to get back on track with his!

HPTEAGUE, I'm with you....both male and female infertility. My hubby has a zero count due to medication he was on (testosterone replacement therapy) and it is not coming back naturally. We are currently looking into hormone shots for him (and having a hard time finding the right person to go to for that type of treatment.) And my cycles since coming off the Nuvaring have been so wacky. I have been diagnosed with a luteal phase defect. So far, they haven't corrected it.

I would say as long as you have some good sperm, then natural conception is possible for you. If you are worried about it, you can always see if they will do an IUI for you.

I'm asking myself the same thing. DH's count and motility are fine, but they're not shaped appropriately. Apparently, for the best chances of conceiving normally, you need the sample to have over 12% of "good" sperm. My DH scored in the 0-4%. That being said, the RE said that these samples can very quite a bit each time you sample, but they tend to err on the side of caution and assume he will always be low.

We've been trying for 15 months. It doesn't help that without medication, my cycles are irregular. Gotta love male AND female infertility.

Love,
Hillary

My DH had a great count but a high percentage of non-movers and abnormal shaped ones. I want to think if we continued trying naturally it would have happened for us one day but after 19 months of no success, we went ahead with IUI and found success with our second attempt. To give you an idea, DH's counts were normally over 40 million total but the good ones left for our IUI only ever reached a high of 7 million.

First say to yourself what you would be;
and then do what you have to do.

It would seem that if there are normal swimmers (even accompanied by abnormal ones)then there's got to be a chance of conceiving naturally. After all, it only takes 1!

My husband got his Sperm count done and results are in! Count is Normal But they Found Abnormalities that are more Populous than the Normal Swimmers. We talk to the doctor tomorrow on the Phone about What actual percentage it is because the nurse couldn't tell us. But Maybe you all can put my mind at ease and tell me if its still possible to Conceive Naturally Threw Fertility Therapy, Or Some sort of Therapy. I'm just one of those Strange People who Refuses to do things Unnaturally.
Thanks
