I'm a 5'2" short, thick boned child of medium built parents - my younger sister is about 5.5" taller than me. I blame my good old Hungarian horse riders genes and I can see a similar built in my older son, short legs 'n stuff, my younger one at not yet age 2 looks like a 3 year old despite of having delicate bone structure, he'd be just like their father who's a 6'2" typical English oak.
My mum fretted over that if I had a girl she would get my DH's genes and would be tall and massive. No need to worry I had two boys LOL

I am a product of a small set of parents. I've never really felt like I am losing out on anything major in life.
|
|
I am 5', both my boys are 5'10" or more.......that is the same height as their dad
shortness runs on both sides of my family as well

I dont understand why you think being short is a BAD thing? I've always been happy to be short because it set me apart from all the normal people! ;)
My husband is a shorty, and was put in a teen heart throb magazine when he was a teenager himself (some special they did about cute military boys lol)... think of other short handsome men.... Michael J Fox, Tom Cruise, Prince, Dudley Moore and those are just the ones I can think of!... height didn't seem to negatively effect these men! ;-) I think the only reason he might feel badly about being short is if you keep obsessing about it and make him THINK its a bad thing! It isnt!!!

As soon as you become a mother the guilt kicks in.
If you weren't feeling guilty about the possible genetic connection regarding height, I bet you would be feeling guilty about some other aspect of parenting. Guilt is such a destructive emotion and so hard to shake off but do try. I am short woman with a short husband and I have a short daughter who has had a short child by a short man.... We all still live and breathe and enjoy life. Luckily for me being short has never proven to be a problem in fact it has often been an advantage. I hope that will be the case for your son. Love ![]() Stay in the moment.

Genetic shortness runs in my family too. My mom is 5'1'', my dad is 5'8'', my aunt is 5'2'', and I am 5'2'' but my brothers are 5'10'' and 6'1'' so... I am not sure how this will play out for my kids because my boyfriend is only 5'8''! lol. yay me :)

Joy... don't worry about his height. As long as he is happy and healthy, that's what's important. Above all, don't feel guilty (after all, good things come in small packages) and don't let him pick up on whatever you're feeling... that could create a real image problem for him where there isn't any now...

I know that everything needs to be put into perspective. That as long as you have good health does it really matter how many inches a person is??? At least that is what I am trying to convince myself of. Have a great day all.

I definitely obsess on this one. If my 5 year-old continues on his current growth curve he'll only get to 5 feet. Yipes. I'm 5 feet, my husband is 5ft7. It's really hard to know if this is just famial shortness or something is "wrong". Anyway I'll be really happy if he makes it to 5ft4.

I had to laugh at what you are talking about because I had 2 brothers one taller and the other short5'4" 5'6" what ever. You heard it's not the size but how you use it. My taller brother put on ome pounds. My short brother does electrical work on medical equipment. Field service tech. He is in high demand because he is what you could call compact and can fit inside the machines and flip in ways a taller person couldn't.
Lynn My dad is also short and is in Florida after running a successful business for many years. Pertty good golfer. Shot brother also golfs pretty good. What would rather be smart or tall, tall or bald, tall or rich, tall or healthy. Lynn, Wisconsin

I am 5'2" and my hubby is 5'11". Our 21 yr old son is 5'7" and yes, he blames me. But his height has never been a problem for him, he was a HS athlete, has a beautiful (short) girlfriend, and will graduate this spring from college. Really, truly, this is not such a big deal- only if you make it so.

Thank you all for your kind words and helpful comments. I talked to my son, who is now at least 3 inches bigger than me and he really doesn't seem phased by it. I guess that as long as he is a happy healthy person, we will be fine. Now if I could just get over the guilt lol...

I agree with the other post. Being short is not bad at all. My dad is 5"6 and my mom is 5", I am 4"11 and my hubby is 5"8. I have two boys and the first so far is above average for his height 120% and the second is only in the 20% range. Since I come from a family with everyone being short, I really not concern at all if my boys are short. My biggest fear is that they out grow me by elementary. My 3 year old is already more than half my size.

I will be honest I'm scared my shortness may negatively impact my boys also. If I had girls I wouldn't be concerned, but I had boys! I'm 4'11" and my husband is 6'. I would like them to at least hit 5'6". 5'6" isn't bad at all, I mean it is 7 inches taller than me! As long as our boys aren't as short as us we should be happy!

Being short is not the end of the world even for boys my brother is only 5'4" and my dad 5'2' and trust me getting women or having confidence has never been a problem for them. Don't beat yourself up, he will be fine as long as you love him

I am 5 feet tall and my husband is 6 feet tall. I just came back from a well care visit for my 14 year old son and was told that he would most likely not be any bigger than 5' 6". One never really knows until boys are around 18 or so but why did he have to get my short genes and not my hubby's tall genes???
Anybody out there know what I am going through?? I am totally blaming myself for this. Crazy right?? Progress not perfection is the key to living every day to its fullest!!!
