Because I like it!

It took years to get to this point, and trying lots of different things. Now, I'm happy to say that I LIKE to exercise!

Weight control, and running keeps me from wanting to smoke. I smoked for 20 years and quit 16 months ago. Running keeps me sane, and using my lungs keeps me from wanting to contaminate them again! emoticon

I agree with all of you --- I workout for all of those reasons (well, I'm still working on the flat stomach thing.....my worst area: belly fat!). Ani: I whole-heartedly agree with you. Workouts do eliminate the joint pain/tightness we all have as we age --- it makes a world of difference to me, and I don't have any real joint/arthritis issues.

Having both Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia exercise has been nearly impossible....until now.

I have discovered that swim classes at my local YMCA are just the ticket that I need. The dynamics of exercising in water is amazing. As long as I am in I can do almost anything. Climbing out is another story, but my recovery has been faster than I imagined and for the first time in 3 years I feel good.

I feel good and I can do it! Yeah!

You are so right about exercise easing the pain. I jump out of the bed when exercising regularly, but not so when I don't.

Yeah Exercise!

Those are all great motivators for sure; thanks for that list. There's one more that is a big reality for me and that is that working out is a pain killer. I have found it to be the best relief from back and hip pain, from foot and joint pain, and all-over aches and pains during the night. All these discomforts melt away when I workout regularly and they come right back when I neglect it.

Hospitals are terrific for traumatic care; for acute care. They do a really, really good job in saving lives when it's a sudden bleeding emergency. But in terms of chronic care, they're terrible; (that is) in terms of the illnesses that most people have, endure, that cost the most money, that last the longest and ultimately die from. -Dr. Andrew Saul

It helps to write down your reasons for getting fit so you will have a visual picture when you lose your motivation. Mine are:

1. To stay medicine-free.
2. To keep a positive attitude.
3. I love the way my clothes fit.
4. I love how I feel afterwards.
5. I love the results to my body.
6. I'm more mentally alert.
7. It's a stress reliever.
8. My posture is better.
9. I eat healthier.
10. I feel lousy when I don't work out.
