Hello Hello Hello!
I'm fairly new to Clean Eating, and, if I'm honest, I'm not very good at it yet. I've started to lose my sweet tooth (fruit is sweet enough, thanks!) but i CRAVE salty snacks. I'm finding alternatives like Edamame, and avocado, but I still fail more often than I succeed.

I'm hoping to find ideas and support while i make this lifestyle change.

I also think I will get Tosca's book and start eating cleaner.

Wow, cheese with no cheese but oil in it! Holy crap. That's just scary.

I am new to this team but not new to clean eating. Maybe one day my kids will thank me for their healthy diet. It is still a struggle to get them to eat veggies. We instituted the "no thank you bite" a few years ago and it has changed into the bigger bite and soon will be a serving. At least for one daughter who excludes all vegetables except lettuce. I have three children. Two girls 15 & 13 and son who is 10. I have been married to a wonderful man for almost 17 years. He recently cut way back on his drinking and now craves sugar. I need to start making him healthy desserts. Just haven't done it yet.

I'll be buying Tosca's book this weekend after I get paid. Can't wait to read it!

Cathy

Short term goal:
Drop 10 pounds by the end of 2011

Hi! I'm 22 and studying spanish, english and russian. I am working really hard to lose those stubborn last 10kg I've been dragging around for ages. My vices are sugar and white flour (like in baguettes...) I would love to cut those out of my diet (ever noticed that the industry puts sugar in almost everything? It's so sad). Currently I am doing the Billy Blanks bootcamp and my tummy is starting to disappear, but I haven't lost any weight :( I am new to Sparkpeople so if anyone would like to be my buddy I would love to have someone to work together on our weight goals. I am trying really hard so I would appreciate it if my buddy would do the same...^^ Good luck to everyone!

Hi! I recently joined the group...I am single mom and college student and usually work anywhere from 8 to 16 hours 5 to 6 days a week! I recently started developing alergies towards foods...like chocolates and pomegranite. I have been trying to eat more healthy because about 6mos ago I joined a gym and I was working out religiously when I realized I was breaking out...I am not an avid label reader but I do read labels prior to eating items. Anyway, I thought I was eating healthy only to findout the peanut butter I had in the cupboard had trans fat & hydrogenated oil in it! I caught a sale at the grocery store and the cheese had NO milk in it- #1 ingredient was OIL!!!! So that is when I put my foot down-I workout hard then I think I am eating right only to find this....no way! Any tips u have on eating clean are more then welcome...as I am a novice & thank u for having me! emoticon

Yesterday, in my opinion, was actually a really good clean eating day. I stayed in my range, got all of my water, freggies, and carbs in....it was good! I felt very happy with my progress and decisions...I am on my way!

Hi everyone - I still haven't started officially "eating clean" yet but love checking in on this team!!

I have been GUZZLING water for about a week now (at least 10 cups per day) and now am actually starting to feel a.) no more caffiene headaches and b.) starting to DISLIKE the taste and feel of soda in my mouth. Ugh - so many chemicals!!

Anyone else had the same experience with soda yet?

RussoG22- Awesome!!! You are very inspirational! You give me so much hope. I have been falling off the eating clean wagon a few times a week. Have 3 good days then my family will eat out. Ugh! Salads eating out are not always the healthiest. I never know what to do sometimes when we go out to eat. That is the question I always run into. What do you do when you go out to eat at restaurants?

Hi! I've been intrigued with clean eating for a while but haven't made the switch yet. I love Tosca, her book, Oxygen magazine & the Eating Clean (or is it Clean Eating) magazines. I'm hoping to slowly make the transition into eating clean. One major problem is that the only veggies my husband will eat are lettuce, onions, white potatoes, peppers, & occasionally carrots. Makes cooking for the family more difficult. I'm hoping to find some simple meals to make and if there are any that can be prepared & frozen for later use that would be a great bonus! Going to try to start the day off with steel cut oats with honey (from my dad's bees) in the morning!

Hi
RE: have a question...I can not eat oatmeal without putting a lot of sugar,
I was like that. What I did was added 1 T of reduced sugar jam to the bowl of oatmeal or dried fruit. The cooked the oatmeal in the microwave. I now have it with fresh fruit and half an envelope of Splenda and cinnamon. Dried dates are really good in it. My sister will use a teaspoon of Maple syrup in hers. Hope this helps. Shari

Well first of all Thank GOD I am not an diabetic. By rights I should be!! That's why I am doing something now! LOL
Oh You have given me so much info...I have been writing this all down! I have heard of Ezekiel bread. I was going to buy some until I saw $4 something for the price. WOW! So I have been buying whole grain. I love almond butter. And I am going to buy some raw honey asap! I have the stevia. It's an acquired taste. But I have been eating such high sugar that I know I have to give myself time.

I think Raw Honey is wonderful if you are not diabetic. Honey is very high in sugar. Yes, it is a natural and beautiful type of sugar, however, diabetics have to be careful. It also is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Organic Raw Honey is the best. Manuaka Honey to be exact. Stevia will not provide the same benefits health benefits but it is much lower in sugar. It is great for diabetics and people wanting to reduce their sugar intake. Just remember to much of anything is not good. What is to much? Anything more than a tablespoon of honey per day. Stevia comes in droplet, packets, or small scooper. It is very sweet and you will not need more than two drops, two packets, or even two small scoops. Steel Cut Oatmeal is the elite of oats. If Gluten is an issue, Bob's Red Mill sells a wonderful Gluten Free Steel Cut Oats. If Gluten is not an issue, I recommend Eden Organics they sell a line of breakfast grains in a bag. Such as Spelt or Buckwheat. They have just as much fiber and protein as Oats. Also, sprouted grains are wonderful for you. They do not break down quite as quickly as a regularly grown grain. I recommend the line Ezekiel. My daughter loves their Cinnamon Raisin cereal. Similiar to a grape nut but so much healthier.I make french toast from the sprouted cinnamon raisn bread with a side of agave or sugar free strawberry jam for my daughter. She loves it. My mom loves the low sodium sprouted bread with a slab of almond butter and smashed with blackberrie. The line is very clean and great assortment of items.

Ok so how do you feel about raw honey? which one would you prefer the raw honey or the Stevia? and how much is to much? LOL
also I have tried Quinoa and I couldn't eat it. It has the weirdest texture that I started to gag when I ate it. I know I'm strange.

Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Unsweetened Applesauce, Sugar Free Jam, Sweet Berries, Stevia (This is a plant. Not an artificial sweetener. It comes in flavors too!) Although nut butters are great, they do have a lot of fat and calories. Limit them to only twice a week and no more than one tablespoon per serving. In addition, don't forget your omegas. Throw in some whole or ground flaxseed, chia seed is great, try a different dried berry too. I love mulberries. Gooseberries are tart and work great in a salad. Sorry for the ramblings, however, I am very passionate about health and food. I used to weigh 240 lbs. I am proud to say, I am now 125. Kept it off for over 5yrs! No more than 4 lbs. flunctuations. I had to give myself some freedom during the holidays! I hope this helped take care. One more thing, I would also suggest trying a grain called Quinoa. Sugar Beets Bakery makes the best blueberry Quinoa pancakes. Yummy. They are a gluten free and vegan bakery.

I have a question...I can not eat oatmeal without putting a lot of sugar, agave nectar, whatever in it. So I read that Khosi cereal was good to eat. My question is: when eating clean can you eat it everyday and if so which ones can you have. Oh and I might have spelled Khosi wrong LOL

i am moving towards a much more vegetarian type of diet myself. I am still eating eggs, which i buy from a local lady that lets her chickens run around in the yard! After reading "The Omnivores Dilemma" I am totally grossed out and offended by eating mass produced foods. I am still eating some dairy foods but would like to find a local humane dairy.

Hi Everybody! Just found the "Eating Clean" team...now, that's what I've been looking for! I have been gradually shifting away from processed foods, doing more shopping in the produce dept and the health food store. Shunning anything with HFCS, baking my own breads, and I'm looking forward to planting a small garden this spring for those items I use lot....tomatoes, peppers, peas and herbs. I'm Vegetarian/Pescatarian, don't eat any cheese or yogurts (yuk), and I didn't get fat on fast foods (I have other demons....) Let's make this a terrific week, everybody! emoticon *tink*

Store rutabaga's are almost impossible. They are tough, old, overgrown and often waxed, so they just won't cut or peel. Try getting them from your farmer's market or grow your own. I love them roasted and in soups. But, frankly, I don't eat them much because they are more difficult to grow than turnips, and the ground animals prefer them.

Clean eating! This is great. When I started really losing weight it was mostly diet that changed. I run a either way, but diet really affects you and helps you feel great. Keep up the good work!

Hello everyone! I'm Sara. I've been around Spark for a while and have recently become interested in clean eating. Anyone have any advice about getting started? I'm doing the pantry purge this weekend.

Hello. I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Leigh. I joined SP about 2 years ago, then stopped, then joined again, then stopped. Now I'm back again. A friend of mine told me about Tosca's book last summer and I have been interested in doing this for a while. I was happy to stumble across this group this morning. I truly hope that this will help me reach my goals.

Hi everyone! I just want to introduce myself. I love the idea of clean eating, and I'm trying really hard to de-condition myself away from all those colorful boxes of processed poison at the grocery store. Nothing is tastier than what comes fresh out of the ground. Right now I'm reading Fast Food Nation, which is making me look at the American food industry in a new way- There's knowing something isn't good for you, and then there's really understanding why. Eeks. I look forward to reading all your tips and thoughts on clean eating. I'm really interested to see how it changes my body.

You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
And show the world all the love in your heart
Then people gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes, you will
That you're beautiful as you feel

I like buying the bags of frozen fruit, but I read the label to make sure that it contains nothing BUT the fruit! I can just pop a serving out of the bag as needed. I buy organic bananas when they are on sale and then peel them and freeze them so I can just pop one out when I need it and put it in the blender. I buy seasonal fruit (mostly berries) from local organic farmers and I also buy local organic yogurt when I can find it or Stonyfield from the market when I can't. I prefer using Almond milk. Sometimes I'll add natural peanut butter or hazlenut butter, just to mix the flavors up to keep it interesting. I don't add any protein powder...I'm susceptible to kidney stones so the protein in the yogurt is sufficient for me. Hope this helps a little? Good Luck!

Hey everyone!! I'm brand spanking new to clean eating. I'm actually re-reading Tosca's book and drafting out my plan of action. I'm really interested in incorporating two protein shakes a day as meals, of course I'll be making them myself. Does anyone have any expierence with making clean shakes...any advice would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

I love me no matter what size I am, but it wouldn't hurt for that size to be an 6-8.

Do you boil the entire thing or is there some trick to peeling it? I made a mess of it! LOL
