I swim a 1:40/100 usually. I just want to be under 45 for 1.2 miles.

Edited to add: Now that I have a 70.3 under my belt, I can say that I have a 1.2 mile (wetsuit) time of 35.

Thanks to everyone for sharing! I wanted to make sure my goals were somewhat reasonable.

@FitFoodie: That's my goal. 30 minute miles.

Swimming is my strength of the 3. In a pool I swim a mile in 30 minutes. I try not to push off the ends when swimming laps. I'm slower in open water because I'm a horrible sighter.

I'm much faster in the pool than in open water. I can swim a mile in the pool in about about 38 minutes which translated to about a 45 minute 70.3 distance swim. However my fastest 70.3 swim is 55 minutes.

However given a nice current, saltwater and a wetsuit I was able to swim my 140.6 this past year at Beach to Battleship in 1:04...hehe! Funny thing is that was still considered middle to back 1/3 of the pack.

Oh well, I am getting faster each year so my goal this year in my 70.3 is sub 50 minutes.

Thank you so much Bob Schwartz (I Run, Therefore I Am- Nuts!) for this lovely, funny insight into my life.

I typically swim about 1:40 per 100 yards in the pool for sets of 500 yards or above. That translated to a swim time of 38 minutes in my first 70.3 last fall. I'm really hoping to improve to under 34:00 in Galveston in 3 weeks.

So, I'm training for my first 70.3 triathlon. I'm just curious how fast/slow other team members are in the water. I'm currently swimming a 38 minute mile doing laps in a 25 yard pool. So, how fast do you swim?
