I've been taking magnesium everyday for years. I still get vicious foot cramps when I swim laps. I do not get them when swimming open water events, so am thinking it is the push off from the walls. Maybe I should try taking a mag supplement right before swimming to see if it helps.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I am currently taking 400-500 mg pr day right now without the "issues" associated with too much.

Thanks

By the time I got to the running leg of my tri's last year, I would start cramping. This was new to me and something I had not experienced with strictly running events.

My ART therapist suggested taking a magnesium supplement everyday. I haven't done a tri yet this year so it will be interesting to see what happens. I do not take the full dose which is 2 pills. I only take one. Guess that leaves the window open for taking a second pill the night before a race if cramping is still a problem this year.

I have really been working on nutrition too. Hopefully I will find something that works.

I also had a sports med doctor recommend a Vitamin F supplement for leg cramping. Never even heard of this but unfortunately it had iodine in it and I am allergic to it. I was too afraid to try the supplement even though he thought the amount used in it would not pose a problem.

Good luck!

Do you take additional for an event or just stay with your normal daily routine? :)

If you have issues with muscle cramping, is it a plausible solution besides using electrolytes, to also mix up some magnesium citrate in with your water for an extra boost? Specifically, I was looking at Natural Calm powdered mag supplement appx 230 mg. Per pkg.

Or

Taking a supplement prior to start rather than during the course.

Thanks...
