I'm not sure that a sports drink would cure your post workout cravings, but I have read that the best thing to eat post workout is a 3 or 4 to 1 carb to protein ratio. One of the best recovery foods is chocolate milk because of the ratio of carbs to protein. It sounded like your post workout meal was mostly protein...which seems like a good meal, but not necessarily a good post workout "snack". One of my favorite post workout drinks is a protein shake. I make it with vanilla protein powder, skim/almond/soy/coconut milk, and frozen berries. I put it in the blender, it's ready quite quickly, and it really satisfies me. Just a suggestion. As for whether you need an energy drink or not, I think if your workout is closer to 2 hours than 1 hour, you might want to consider using an energy drink. They are more for how you feel during the workout. Do you feel like you're losing energy towards the end of the workout? If not, then you're probably fine with water.

I have been working out at least 45 min a day... some days over to 2 hours (like today). I went for a 65 min walk/jog and when I got home I was RAVENOUS!!!! I already had food planed, but I couldn't eat it quick enough (3/4 cup blueberries, 2 egg whites and 2 cups spinach) I also downed about 16 oz of water. I went off my diet and had a slice of pizza (100 cal) and 3 cookies. I just really needed carbs!

Before my work out I had a cup of oatmeal with half a cup of blueberries and half a cup of milk. I am trying to lose weight and dont want to have extra sugar or carbs I dont need. (But eating cookies isn't going to help!)

I have always herd that you shouldn't drink sports drinks regularly unless your a athlete. Am I now a athlete? Will the sports drinks stop the post work ravenous feelings?
