It's hard to judge because you are training for 3 events vs. one. Biking is so much easier and faster for me than running, that I find longer more difficult bike workouts are still quicker than my most difficult runs. Another obstacle that can ADD time to my workouts is HILLS! When I train for any race that I need to include hills, my time for working out can also increase dramtically. For me the swimming portion never changes much (just the distance) because most of my tris start in pools or small lakes....if I was training in the ocean, then it would be a different story.

Hey! I'm trying my first 70.3 this year too! I'm posting my training progression on my page if you are interested. Sounds like we are approaching this from the same point - I've run 20+ marathons and just started tri's last year.

Good luck and keep us posted

I have done shorter distance triathlons in the past but I want to do my first half-Ironman triathlon in the Fall.

I've run a bunch of marathons before - what would you say is the approximate weekly time commitment for half Ironman training versus a marathon? 2x? Or more? I run about 45-50 miles a week.

I ran a marathon about a week and a half ago, I'm going to take another couple weeks of easy training to fully recover and then plan to train for 18-20 weeks before the triathlon itself.
