my trainer (who is working on her masters in kinesiology and exercise physiology, so she really does know her stuff) has me working on losing weight until mid or late april, but then i'm to switch to maintainence through tri season. that way my body can have time to convert some of my body composition into muscle. when we're actively losing weight, muscle as well as fat is lost.

i learned that personally this year because my trainer did body composition testing on me last summer and in january. i'd lost 15 pounds, 8 of them being muscle).

the plan is to go back to weight loss mode after the season because i don't think i'll reach goal before then.

If you read the sports nutrition guru Nancy Clark RD, she is not in favor of combining the two. However, her books are excellent. I also like Chris Carmichael's 5 Essentials for a Winning Life: The Nutrition, Fitness, and Life Plan for Discovering the Champion Within and Chris Carmichael's Food for Fitness.

I think it is possible to do some weight loss when training if you carefully plan your nutrition and your training. I think if you have some kind of diary system to log calories in and calories out you MAY be able to lose weight.

Just getting back into training. I completed my first sprint tri last year and signed up for it again. I am planning on adding more running races this year. I have been training for the runs/tri recently.

Last year I went from couch potato to Iron Girl finisher. This year I want to actually lose weight as I didn't lose an ounce last year.

My question-what would you suggest I read or do concerning my nutrition so I can lose weight while training?

Any suggestions and/or advice will be appreciated.
