I got to run outside for the first time since Sept. on Sunday, it was so much fun! Can't wait to get out of the gym again!

I just started using a trainer this winter in a group spin setting, and these workouts nearly kill me. I would have never guessed how much harder they are than a regular gym spin class. I am looking forward to see if these sessions help me see improvement when I start riding outside.

Bruce Hildenbrand wrote this article for active.com and it can be viewed there along with some sample cycling workouts.

Most of us feel that indoor cycling is like running around in circles in a jail cell. There are a few things you can do to keep the bordom factor to a minimum.

1. Cycling Classes
*Spin Classes
*Motivation--a lot like chearleading meets cycling and it works for many people

2. Cycling Clubs
*Some clubs meet at a bike shop, etc. once or twice a week to pedal together

3. At Home--where most of us will be!
*Key factor is to make riding as comfy as possible
*Create a good environment, make a firm committment, and add some motivation
*Use Effort which equals sweat! May want to use a fan, regardless be sure to wipe bike down as sweat is corrosive
*Use a TV and a Cycling DVD (many available)
*Use all of your gears and some time if your trainer does not have a power reading available
*Be sure to warm-up and cool down properly
I am going to "ADD" a friend if you have enough room. Friends add conversation, a challenge AND the experience will be more motivating for both of you.
